New account banned with no reason given

I made a new account roughly about a month ago and it was banned yesterday. In the email there was no offense given. I only use that account for SOD and just raid every other day with my guild. I really have no idea why I was banned. The only thing I can think of it was time to renew the subscription and when I used my debit card I realized I could have used a WoW token instead so I removed my card from the account. Not sure if Blizzard thinks I was trying to scam?

I did some research and have noticed a lot of new accounts going into the 2nd month they will be permanently closed with no reason given. The entire battlenet account was closed and not just the WoW license. So I really have no idea what is going on.

Also, trying to appeal this is incredibly hard when you can’t even login to the account. Was there some sort of ban wave?

Greetings,

To appeal, I’d recommend that you use a new/different email address and create a new battle.net account. That way you can submit a ticket and track/update the ticket too.

Just be sure to reference the other battle.net account in your ticket. Here’s a link for the appeal:

Lastly, understand that they’re not likely going to give you any specifics beyond breaking the EULA. That’s the reason for the account action. It may not be super-specific, but it is the reason based on what you posted here.

just wanted to add:

Yeah, I literally have never spoken a word in the chat in SOD. The only interaction I really have is with my guild. Then again I don’t know how those can cause a complete battlenet account closure. Thanks though.

Have you taken part in any GDKP runs?

Only 1 because I had to miss a raid day due to work. That was maybe 2 weeks ago? Possibly longer.

They have been really cracking down on that. In SOD it’s being outright banned. But even before it was outright banned, people have been buying gold and then using GDKP runs to launder the stolen gold. And when that happens they have generally actioned anyone receiving the gold. Basically, receiving stolen gold, even unknowingly, through an unsupported activity is being treated the same as buying the gold. Supported transactions (like crafting, or the auction house) aren’t treated the same unless there is evidence of colluding with gold sellers.

They say they are looking at patterns of behavior, etc, and not just nuking someone because they received stolen gold once. But you have to be REALLY REALLY REALLY careful with GDKP runs, and not taking part in anything if you don’t know where the gold came from.

Not saying that this is for sure what the issue was, but it’s possible. Keep in mind, GDKP runs in SOD are completely banned going forward. It’s not being allowed at all anymore.

Asfaik that’s not until phase 2 starting. However, I don’t think they are completely closing entire battlenet accounts for GDKP/receiving gold are they? That’s what puzzles me is the entire bnet has been nuked when normally it’s the WoW license.

They still go after those getting stolen gold. Even if gdkp runs are currently allowed.

I just highly doubt they would close an entire bnet account over doing a gdkp even if the gold is illicit. Even the email would state the offense for receiving gold/gold buying. I really dont think my account was closed for doing 1 gdkp a few weeks ago.

Yeah. I don’t know what “research” you did - but if you’re going off of mess you see on Reddit or the like, I wouldn’t believe 99% of the stuff being posted there.

Here on CS, while there are plenty of people like yourself who come through here who have been sanctioned for some reason or another? There has been absolutely nothing of that sort that has come about. No pattern of two-month-old accounts being closed or even specifically sanctioned.

There are plenty of other tin-foil-hat theories out there. We surely don’t need another.

As to your sanction - perhaps one of our SFAs will pop in and can enlighten you as to the reasoning. At worst, please do make note in your appeal and ask them for that information because like has been stated, while they won’t tell you anything explicitly, they are supposed to at least provide you with a general category.

Good luck to you in your appeals.

Yes…to clarfiy, they are banning when people receive stolen gold, knowingly or unknowingly, through an unsupported activity. GDKP runs are (until season 2), not prohibited, but also are unsupported.

I’d pursue this line of thought through an appeal. Something set off red flags, and it does look payment related.

You know what I think you’re right my friend. I tried a new debit card I had and I think the bank’s anti-theft measures kicked in. I just found the emails from my bank preventing the purchase. I used another debit card and everything was fine. Then I realized I could just use a WoW token so I removed the debit card. Hopefully they get to my ticket soon.

I know most tickets are responded to at about a day-ish, but appeals tickets may take a little bit more for the investigation portion?

Also - if you get a templated response saying that the sanction will be upheld? By all means please kick it back to be reviewed again. Unfortunately, it sometimes takes a few turns but you are allowed to keep appealing until they warn you that no more will be accepted. Hopefully since it was something that Orlyia could see from their side of things, it won’t be too tedious for you. Good luck!

I submitted a ticket yesterday but I wasn’t sure it went through or not. I went ahead resubmitted another ticket on this account. Thank you again for your help!

Just an update.

I got an automated response and replied to it. However, the ticket wait time just keeps increasing and it’s almost at 5 days. Is this how it’s suppose to work? Was hoping to have the account unlocked for phase 2.

If you reply to an existing ticket it will be prioritised for a new response.

Nothing you can do but wait unfortunately.

The time you’re seeing displayed is an estimation based on the oldest ticket in the system. It’s not your wait time specifically. And like Forumcat said, reopening the existing ticket does put it into a higher queue and not from the base starting point all over again.
