Since Blizzard has been quite responsive to forum complaints lately, I think I speak for all Alliance mains (Not people who have level 60 alliance alts that they abandoned in TBC) that we do not want mercenary mode implemented.
This would absolutely kill the alliance PVP scene making it impossible for alliance players to find arena partners. It is already difficult enough now as it is to find decent PVPers on alliance because most serious PVP players play horde for the racials. Please let’s not get into an argument about how good perception or stoneform is, you are out of touch with reality if you think alliance racials are better than passive stun resist, war stomp, AOE silence, and free fear break. Review the retail PVP LFG tool as reference, there is always double the amount of groups on horde than alliance arena LFG at all rating levels.
Alliance have suffered from being the minority faction since phase 2 classic. We went from getting camped by Blackrock Mountain to being unable to access any summoning stone for Outland dungeons. Horde consistently claim Outland PVP objectives on every layer as well, meaning they have easier access to PVP gear attainable through world PVP tokens. Fast BG queues are the only redeeming factor for any pvper on the Alliance faction. Thanks
Mercenary mode sounds like a great solution in theory. In practice it does get the queues down.
However, it also removes one of the strongest incentives to play PvP as alliance. And you can see how this bleeds into PvE as well- alliance has less representation in mythic plus, mythic raiding, etc.
I think like LFR, this is another system the devs never would have done in retail if they had seen where it would lead. But like LFR, they are stuck with it now.
Exactly, horde players crying for immediate changes without considering the consequences it has for Alliance players who are already playing with significant disadvantages with the exception of that one alliance-dominant server which I can’t name off the top of my head.
Honestly its not even supposed to be seen as an incentive that decides it. This screeching from horde specifically made it into a big problem when it only affects a REALLY SMALL part of the overall game.
Why do you think so many people went horde? Because when going through ALL the reasons to select a faction, queue times was such a small issue that it never even registered on the “I give a care” meter.
I’m honestly surprised horde haven’t been farming world pvp on their pvp disparity servers between queues. At least we get horde that cry more rather than do things. I like that.
I’ll agree that it’s not a supposed to be a specifically alliance incentive, but it is absolutely an intended incentive to play the faction with less pvpers.
In original classic, this was the horde. Today it is the alliance.
If you want faster queues, the side with less participants becomes attractive. This is intended.
Heck even WotLK was kinda balanced in retrospect. Humans got to use a dps trinket instead of a pvp trinket, Undead got their racial nerfed so it wasn’t 20 times better than the 2nd best racial. The racial was still usable outside of their pvp trinket too, so they were still insanely strong.
Except there is a a simple way to fix this issue which will not negatively affect anything with mercenary mode which was proven when they put it in the game anyways

95% of PvP content caters to horde. The ball is in your court why you believe blizzard should throw away authenticity to take away the remaining 5% from alliance and give it over to horde too.
Pvp content doesnt “cater to horde.” The skilled pvpers are mainly horde because they understand the importance of min/max. Hence alliance lose bg after bg.
I had 3 very geared toons as Alliance in Classic, and also loved to pvp.
Now in BCC I’m maining Horde, and I don’t want to see merc mode. If they truly insist on a change, then put in the RBG style where its team v team, and the faction doesn’t matter. You might start on Horde side, you might start at Alliance gates. No one knows. YOu might be horde against horde, or horde against ally. Again, who knows.
But yea merc mode truly only benefits one faction, and does so at the other’s expense. Not a fan.
If you want me to take this post seriously then alliance needs to start coming up with solutions to this pvp issue as well. Last 3 days alliance has done nothing but trolled horde threads “lol bad hordies should have rerolled allince” and many more things.
I have the ability to switch but with how toxic alliance has been I don’t even want to. I could have spent all day leveling my goat shaman but honestly with the issues in TBC classic and the toxic behavior from alliance on this topic I’m close to just throwing in the towel.
I only pvp and casual pvp. So I would be a very good player to add for alliance. Yet the issue with alliance is some bgs you don’t try and are full of afkers.
So honestly I feel like both sides have major issues and that pvp isn’t worth playing classic for.

In 2004-2006 World of warcraft, the alliance had more players and pvp participation. Horde may have had better racials, but people didn’t roll them as much for whatever reason.
At the time, horde had the faster queues. The faster queues were an intended incentive to play horde.
