People believe because moonkin form was mediocre that it means the entire tree was mediocre. Plenty of high value and balance druids are capable of doing great damage. Getting locked out of resto spells so you have 3% extra crit is just not great in most circumstances, true. It’s already at odds with the wrath rune (a balance spell) because no ones dropping form to pop healing touch and then going back into form again. Very expensive. Mana sustain is an issue too.
What if moonkin aura instead made damaging spell crits refund part of their mana cost and they opened up resto spells while in form?
Except that’s not what will happen. It will be ignored because they specifically DON’T care about PvP at all. Also, weird crying about Starsurge when 2 mages can wipe an entire raid with living bomb/flame.
They also can abuse fingers of frost with shatter next phase to make all of their living bombs crit as well!
Well, I mean, the tree is really bad. This isn’t really even just my opinion, it’s math. The balance tree provides range, cast time reductions for Starfire and Wrath, pushback reduction for roots only, 10% dmg and crit on the direct damage portion of two DoTs, 10% base damage on spells that deal 30% less base damage than Fireball and Scorch, 3% crit, and 100% crit damage. Vengeance is good, but because balance bases are so low and Moonfury only affects base damage, given equal spell power, a Starfire crit still almost always deals less damage than a Fireball crit because the base damage values are that much lower. Like, if a Fireball hits for 1000 and a Starfire hits for 700, the Fireball will crit for 1500 and the Starfire will crit for 1400. And the Starfire crit didn’t apply ignite, either.
Balance doesn’t provide penetration, hit chance, only provides 3% crit for self, doesn’t provide scaling damage increases, etc. And as you touched on, the few unique talents we have have major issues.
All these druids mains should come post from their classic druids they totally have. I’m sure they’re R5+ with TBC launch tabard and such since they played it so much
Ha, I was going to do you one better and post on my original vanilla Druid on Medivh that I started in 2004 and quit playing after TBC but it’s been so long since I logged into it that I can’t post on it on the forums yet.
I just logged into the character though it’s a trip. He’s still wearing PvP gear from like season 2 BC.
Sad I didn’t pick up my Druid till mop as a main but didn’t like being a healbot. Much more tolerable today healing in retail but would much rather kill people as boomchicken
