It would be op. If it came in lore accurate.

Necrolytes are just nerfed warlocks.

People are mostly complaining due to aesthetic reasons, dk’s and necromancers heavily share the undead image. If they can pull off making the class/spec functionally dissimilar to DK’s and the other classes/specs I say let them.

No. They are super powerful and were the last unit to be unlocked in the campaign. Just search results that call them weak now. Look at gameplay of them and they are the strongest that there is.

Necrolytes solo the entire map in DoTA and kill everything put up against them combined. So they are not weak. Original Blizzard lore from back in the early 90s said that the Necrolytes were the strongest of them all.

We can argue if DKs are Necromancers all day long.

But the truth is this. Any fun Minion/Pet summoning mechanic you could think of, should either go to UHDK or Demo Lock. It’s not like these classes are 10/10 as is.

Any sort of Curse / Blight mechanic you could think of, should go to Warlock.

What’s left? Any kind of fun Death Magic spell should go to DKs.

Tinkers on the other hard are entirely their own lane. No other class should have a mech pilot, or drones/gadgets. We also only have 1 Ranged Physical class in the game.

Dota isn’t wow and custom

Lore wise, Guldan leveled up to a warlock and had doom hammer kill the weaker necrolytes and turned them into death knights. Warlocks became the true power.

Also, 90’s warcraft lore wasn’t even real lore but ideas.

Then why did they release their movie based off of that lore? 100% of that movie lore was taken directly from the 63 page WarCraft Orcs&Humans book that was released in 1994 that was based on the computer game. That lore is as real as it gets. Made by all the originals at Blizzard.

Same movie with no necrolytes because warlocks took over.

Where fel was mentioned vastly more than the shadow and void. Where demons were center fold.

Warcraft lore always showed necrolytes were a stepping stone to becoming a warlock

Yeah kinda.

The way I envision it there would be a tank, heal and dps spec.

Tank would use a beefy pet of some kind to facilitate the tanking process. This “pet” would give a big bonus to health(Stamina probably) and share damage with the character. Smaller summons would be used to facilitate cooldowns, defensives and damage to give the feeling of an army of the dead setup. I like this concept because it makes the necromancer feel like they’re regularly summoning and disposing of their undead the way I’d really like a necromancer to play.

The DPS would be using the shadowfrost and control type abilities. This is also where a lot of those Maldraxxus colored death magic would be. (though I’d expect those effects for most of the class as a whole.) I like to imagine that it has some of that support role setup that Dracthyr Evokers got just to make it a little more interesting. Dps that has a main focus of slowing down and reducing the attacks of enemies while still taking them down. Most of this would be direct damage setups that leave effects over time. Cast shadowfrost for instance and it leaves the enemy slowed on attacks or movement or somesuch. Still has the ability to summon undead of course but these would be more akin to the cooldowns and defensives type setup from the tank spec rather than a “pet”.

Healing would follow the use of Anima and flesh magics we saw in Maldraxxus because that was actually really neat. Stitching flesh and using the blood of the enemy to empower healing spells and also using the same summoning of undead for cooldowns and defensives cause…coolness.

So yeah kinda similar to a cross between a lock and a death knight. Which really is what most folk are looking for as that hits more of what a Necromancer tends to be in most peoples views. (and I just went over my view on it so you can see mine specifically)

I’m torn on what armor class I’d want them to be though. I like the idea of a tanking cloth spec for once but I also have a soft spot for necromancers wearing mail in general. For WoW though I’d probably choose the cloth route.

Weapons I’m thinking daggers, one handed swords, staff, polearm and off hands. Makes the most sense to me. Could also see one handed axes… for chopping up bodies and such.

Lich would be an Elite spec for sure where you’re able to appear lichlike for a bit or something and the final ability would be a phlactery that allows you to ressurect yourself on a timer or something no matter what.

Not sure what I’d do for the other two Elite specs… something for the Undead Army concept… And something to really show off the Anima or Stiching concepts of the healing spec.

The Necrolytes were too powerful and feared so they were removed.

They are awesome. Blizzard hasnt put them in game yet because they are too cool to put in. Just like how DKs got put into game during WoTLK and DH during Legion. And the necrolytes mostly served themselves so the rest of the Horde had no idea when they would tun on them so that is another reason why they got rid of them.

WoW needs Necroylytes which are the only caster class type still not in game that was playable in original WC RTS.

Your perception of the lore is wildly inaccurate that I applaud it.

Also, affliction warlocks are just empowered necrolytes. Just better since they use actual demons instead of weak undead.

I feel like using the Old Hordes Necrolytes is a foolish choice when we can use something more recent and viable for the same purpose. Specifically the Cult of the Damned Neophytes and Acolytes. Have a group of em split off and begin teaching the Horde and Alliance how to do the do… y’know something more like that. The Old Orcish ones are mostly gone now and it would be hard to have them become the thing. (Unless you use Liches who were among those taken by the Legion with Ner’zhul, but I get the impression most of those have been disposed of since.).

We need Tinkers next, not Necromancers. Don’t get me wrong—Necromancers sound cool, but they feel like a mix of Warlock and Death Knight. I really liked the island expedition Tinker NPCs, I’d love to have those as playable.

They could easily fulfill healer, tank, and dps roles too.

In a perfect world we’d get all the classes all the time right now!

But eh, whether its Tinkerer or Necromancers I’d be happy. I feel like both easily could add a tank, dps and healing spec and give a much requested and desired theme people have long wanted.

Maybe it’s just me, but I can’t see how a Necromancer—whose entire theme revolves around raising the dead—would be capable of, or even willing to, take on a healing role. It just doesn’t fit the fantasy.

Its pretty easy. We just look to Maldraxxus where we saw the “original home of Necromancy”. There we saw them stitching flesh and using blood and other materials to make undead. Its easy enough to use that to repair existent flesh and blood especially if they reach out and use the Anima directly.

Its not like Blood DK’s don’t also do some similar concepts to that to heal themselves. Necromancer would just be using that to heal others and probably do some harm to enemies in the process.
