You use necromancy, sure. But the melee focus ruins the vibe. Necromancers have always been spellcasters.

More likely not going to happen at this point.
They considered them from Wotlk but it’s ideas were put into the DK.
And we had a second death themed expansion and it didn’t happen there.

Necromancy is the control of the dead and doing wacky stuffs with them. You can do that in any armor type.
You must be confusing necromancy with a dark wizard yielding dark magics and voidcasting, who also uses necromancy spells to augment their arsenal.

Then those necromancers are actually Priests. They use light magic to bring back the dead.
Necromancy is not limited to just dark magic.

This argument went out the window when Blizzard opened the floodgates with Demon Hunters. They are warlocks with heavier armour and melee.
I don’t see why people like you and others have an issue with overlapping class fantasy. What is the problem with this? If Demon Hunters and Warlocks can coexist then there’s little reason why Necromancers and Death Knights cannot.
Get a grip.

The lore significance of what one does versus the other is a terrible counter point. Try again.
Are these the kind of players that Blizzard is catering too? Is your immersion so fragile that having a pure caster version of a necromancer encroaches on your gameplay?

But there is a difference and what they do is vastly different things
DK and necromancer both raise the dead and use abilities to debilitate people, were just melee necromancers, the ability overlap would be insane

How do you sub-quote exactly what I said and in your first line you incorrectly direct quote? That’s a new record of blatant dishonesty that I’ve seen (or downright half-wittedness).
To your mis-quote, that’s saying something completely different.
And Demon Hunters are just melee warlocks yet there is zero ability overlap. Strong comparative themes, but fundamentally different from a design perspective.
Both can co-exist.
Just give Mages a 4th spec, you could call it either Necromancer or Sorcerer. So you’d have Frost, Fire, Arcane and (lets call it) Reaping magic.
So you’d get the caster class people want, using death magic to make contact with the dead, reap from them and have suitable appearances, dark magic affects and powers and so on.
That way at least Blizz wouldnt need to somehow come up with a new bunch of specs for a class that is already very similar to others in the game.

They are two entirely seperate identifies and have minimal overlap in their classes jobs historically
DKs are literally just platee necromancers as we seen with the many undead being raised by them
