Name reservations? This is a first

It would suck to lose a name you started on Vanilla with, just saying

Interesting, not many games/companies do this sort of thing.

Hopefully I can nab my original character’s name and some others that I’m interested in using.

Thank you.

Hoping it’s evening time EST so I don’t need to ask someone to grab the name I want. I’m already planning to take a few days off for launch.

Cheers!

Just wondering what you guys think of this scenario: - so they are going to let us reserve names on classic servers August 13th, do you guys think entering one of those ancient “Free 10 day guess pass” codes would let us online far enough to reserve a name on classic? - or , do you even think we need to be subbed to reserve names?

Really dude

I’m wondering if the same kind of name attachment to accounts will exists that exists on Retail. For example, if you make a character and then immediately delete it you have rights to that name for a certain amount of time. 30 days? 90 days? Not even sure.

So on the 13th, should we make a character as quickly as possible and then delete it and remake it with the correct customization. Those extra 10 seconds might make all the difference in snagging a name.

Blizz gets the sub money whether you pay outright for your sub or use a token that you bought with gold from someone that paid Blizz money to sell it to you.

Completely agree with you. People complain too much nowadays, some of them not even plan to play the classic, but keep arguing and creating downsides of it. Doesn’t they have more important things to do?

Good question, it depends how it determines who has access. If it is like the beta, ie accounts get flagged for access then I would say that it wouldn’t work.

However if it’s simply the by product of having access to the servers and game as of that day then I don’t see why it wouldn’t grant you access.

Either way, at the end of the day I guess you have nothing to lose by trying it. Best of luck!

Any news on RP-PVP Bornakk?

Would be interesting if that’s the case. Personally I either plan on pre-planning my character appearance through the dressing room tool on Wowhead or alternatively simply making a throwaway character (similar to your suggestion) then taking the time to see how I wanted to customise a second one to see how I wanted it to look.

Then just delete the original and quickly remake now that I know what I want it to be like.

If you aren’t subbed, you cant play classic anyway, so don’t complain about having to sub to get your name reserved. If you don’t, you can be happy with noobmaster66489.

I think that whomever had the name first in current retail wow should bump anyone that tries to snatch it.
For example someone f’s with Swifty by getting his name. Swifty tries to make a character but the name is taken. The server checks to see which account had the name Swifty first. Will the real Swifty please stand up? The name thief gets a forced name change by blizzard and Swifty gets to create his character.
Of course this should include all players. However this feature should only be turned on for lets say the first 10 days or something. You can’t come in months later and expect that you can grab your name back from someone who is progressed quite a bit.

Oh he11 no. Retail has nothing to do with classic and if you want your current retail name then get your butt on fast and reserve it. Period.

People who say that its a way for them to get an extra month or to get a month of subscription… ITS $15 … I mean come on $0.50 a day… im sure it has a lot more to do then them trying to get your couple of dollars.

Looks like someone’s got a case of “didn’t watch office space”.

It has to do with the summer and winter solstices, for much the same reason we have Daylight Savings Time. Namely, it is a farming thing. Crops don’t get planted on the first of September. They get planted when the weather is right for it, which has more to do with the solstice than it does with the calendar. The US is huge. Like, physically MASSIVE. You look at that map of the US, which has an area that is almost as large as the entire continent of Europe, and now realize that 40.8% of it is farmland. That’s current numbers. That’s roughly 1.549 MILLION square miles (4.012 million square kilometers) of farmland.

Now, what does that have to do with the calendar? Well, a lot of farms use school kids to help with the harvest and planting, because it is the family farm, and they just can’t hire that many people to help out. That, in turn, affects the school year, for obvious reasons. Which all combines to make sure that Summer officially starts and stops based on the solstice.

Make a character. That is how you reserve the name.

You can just make anything to hold the name then delete and recreate at launch. Wouldn’t the name be locked to your account for a bit? Or no? From what they said though you reserve the name by making a toon.
