My wife and I cancelled our subs today... her reason is better than mine

Im sorry to hear

For years companies copied wow, and now watching these people scramble to copy other companies and implementing the content (such as level scaling) poorly is very depressing for any long-time fan.

btw if you haven’t run into it already, ESO can be overwhelming for new players because every chapter/expansion has quest starters in the main town. Or, each town in the inns. It can get a bit crazy. There’s some good guides about how to experience it in order. It only changes some dialog, but it makes a few things make more sense as the game assumes you know some lore in some places that you might not.

Just cancelled mine today as well. The community gatekeeping of content is out of control and since there is no way to actually improve my character there is nothing left to do in this game.

WoW lacks many core features almost every other modern MMORPG has.
That’s why.

And those features matter a lot to people who don’t just play WoW.

Yah … except that doesn’t fix any of the problems I, personally, have with the leveling experience. My problem fully come from scaling and Chromie. Slowing down the process, without making it entertaining, doesn’t improve the experience. It DOES allow one to see the content at a better pace, which would be a plus. But that’s the only upside I see.

Scaling - First and foremost scaling completely broke the danger/excitement in the world. Never again do you accidentally bump into something 4+ lvls higher than you and have an ‘Oh Shnickys’ moment. Now everything hit’s like it’s 2 lvls lower than you, even though it is “your lvl”. Leveling is almost a non-fail state game even when just using quest rewards. There’s no reasonable threat of death. Nothing feels meaningful. It’s has become a means to an end, not something fun to do.

Also, during the course of normal play, I don’t get the opportunity to choose to go to a higher level area if I’m looking for a challenge. I have to go out of my way to stop xp at specific levels if I want to do that. And doing that completely negates the only tangible reward left … xp.

Chromie - My biggest problem is exactly what I said in the last post. I feel like it’s '95 and I’m back in highschool changing discs to continue playing. It’s a total downer. The leveling world is a single expansion. Or the beginning of a couple. Prior to chromie you could get a good portion of the xpac done before outleveling it.

i think your reason is better than hers tbh.

i dont expect to finish mario bros by sticking to world 1; would be weird if i did.

WoW is more like Mario All-Stars.
You start Mario 1, then halfway through you end up playing Super Mario World and never go back.

I have tried two others and so far I don’t care for them, but I wouldn’t ask them as a new player to change things either or expect them to.

By posting here, he in some way is looking to see what people think.

That is completely false. People post for conversations sake every single day.

Now this I’ve never considered. I suppose it depends on the topic.

The way WoW devs throw away all of their old content is ridiculous but the problem is that they don’t know how to balance. They can’t balance classes and spec, they can’t balance pvp, and they could never rebalance old content to still make it playable.

WoW is really falling behind other modern mmos.

It’s really sad when you look at all the old raid encounters and dungeons that you can’t really experience how they were meant to be experienced anymore.

Sure you can - go play classic and next up BC and then Wrath and there will be no excuse you can play content exactly as was intended.

Thanks for the tip, but I’ve already leveled through classic and BC. As interested as I am in experiencing old raids/dungeons, I’m not interested in investing that much time to do it-- and it would still only be available for a limited time only.

Yea, PvP is terrible. It’s like they try so hard to make PvP unenjoyable so players are forced to do the crappy PvE content to gear up. Guess I’ll be around iLVL200 for a very long time until the unrated Conquest gear level gets raised.

nah. it wouldn’t take away from the work that was put into the current expansion. if theres no influx of cash for the from the new expansions then the game falls off dramatically. old is old for a reason.

What point leveling, then? I’m serious, I got a lot of pets up to 25 and then for the BfA quest pet battles, all the guides said ‘use level 1’ because then the enemy team would also be level one, and not able to use the fancy spells. We wouldn’t be any different.

The flip side of that though is the money to be made from newer players.

To new players, all content is new content. And the old stuff is creative work that’s already been done and paid for long ago, so if you can create a situation where new players are not “wasting time” by being in old content (because the rewards are miles behind), then you should easily be able to extend that sub time with new players as they see that content.

Of course old players don’t want to run a lot of old content (no kidding), but it’s not all about the old players. If you don’t attract (and keep) new ones, you just end up in a death spiral.

I agree. You should get xp for doing old content at least from the last expansion if the mobs are not gray.

I had not finished unlocking several legion ARs and already had a max character in BFA. So took a max legion character to the zone for LF and VE. The mobs were my same level and elite, but I didn’t have on raid gear, so they were a challenge, yet they didn’t give xp even at red danger. The quests gave a bit of XP.
I posted on General and had a wall of no from regular forum trolls that said I shouldn’t be in legion content. I’m sorry, but that is not a correct answer. If I don’t have the AR and want to get it, then I must be in legion content. The forum trolls that have 29,000 forum posts telling me I was wrong, just made me want to barf. Get a life, seriously and get off the forum when you are supposed to be working 9 to 5. You should be able to level in previous expansion if you want. You should be able to level to 60 in Chrome time anywhere. Perhaps they could say not until you have one toon at max, whatever. It would not be that hard.

I’m not saying to make old raids bis. But old raid gear could at least be like 5 man heroics, so that it is usable for a week or so. Everyone would still get into new content if they want to progress their alt.
