I cancelled today due to the state of casual PvP. Everyone is familiar with that whole argument… but I think my wife’s reasons for leaving are worth a share.
Limiting end-game content to just that of the current expansion significantly narrows the means of increasing your iLevel (end game activity). I have played for years so I understand the “next big thing” aspect of the game. But my wife is new to the game and can’t understand why she has to stay in the Shadowlands to advance and be competitive. She’d much rather stay in Warlords of Draenor and Pandaria to increase her ilvl. She should be able to do this and be competitive for all other content.
She also thought she’d be able to get the full story experience with Chromie time’s new mechanic… but it turned out to be a lazy way of scaling the areas to your character until you hit 50. Even ESO allows you to experience the story of any expansion to completion… which is the new game for us to play together.

Not trying to put you down here, but I think a lot of people aren’t going to take you very seriously when you post on an alt with 1 post. Thats just the way GD is sometimes.
Others will come in and tell you: “Dude obviously Blizz wants you to play the current content they spent time on making!”
Such is the way of the forums. I wouldn’t expect much sympathy, but best of luck to your future endeavors.

Sad to see you both go!
Take care, enjoy ESO and keep poking your heads in, we’ll keep the torches burning should you choose to return!

Because GD totally takes these seriously otherwise, right?

def like to see issues new players have with the game. im always curious. i can see your wife’s issue being annoying. ive seen others complain about the chromie time thing too. blizz really needs someone on the team that actually plays the game like most people.

We’ll leave the lights on for ya both, if ya’ll decide head on back. Good Luck!
Why would you need that when your lead dev publicly stated he hates transmogs and finds old content boring?

Having fun with your wife in a game you enjoy is a win! Enjoy!

I have no doubt that a new player would feel less than satisfied with the current leveling experience from a story perspective
However, for veterans the leveling had just become to long.
Perhaps they should have had a choice of both ways.

Many here will reply that you can experience an entire story in WoW and they are correct, but in ESO you get gear that is your level. And the stories are actually much better - as in the zone quests and even many of the smaller quests not part of the zone story.
I do feel the end-game and groups are somewhat harder to get into. There’s just as much toxicity there as well.

+1 … I hate the chromie mechanic. Instead of this huge living world now we have a whole bunch of different ones from 1995, ‘I wanna see a different part of the game. Let’s put in a new disc’

I think a fair compromise would to let people use Chromie time up to max level once they’ve completed the same criteria as Threads of Fate.
Although I do disagree with the OP that you should be able to get end game equivalent gear from that content. I think that would drive a very toxic meta of farming BiS from multiple sources. Although they could hard cap it at something like 20 ilvls under the current expansion to prevent that from happening.
No she shouldn’t. The content is new for a reason. She can always go back and make a new character, lock its level and experience the story. None of these concepts are new. Tell her to go back to ESO.

If she’s new, how’d she have chromie time to use? I thought you had to have a maxed toon for it.
(Not arguing the opinion on if it’s giving the whole story or not, just curious on how that worked out)

if you think her reason is better than yours, i expect your reason to be quite terrible.

The problem still remains that it doesn’t let you see the story in ‘Real Time’. You’ll get to 60 and have 1/2 the zones still not seen. The whole problem is the scaling. It broke everything but current content when it comes to being a part of this world. You fly through everything so fast that it might as well not exist. I’ve seen people talking about just getting rid of leveling all together. Truth is they have almost done that already. And, for me, it has destroyed quite a bit of what I have always loved about the game.

I think she’ll be much happier in ESO given her complaints. I have switched to ESO myself for similar reasons and it’s so much better in those regards. The whole game feels rewarding unlike WoW where old content becomes trivial. You can level and gear anywhere. Gear and enemies scale depending on your level everywhere you go so you can get end game gear in any zone. Make sure you do all the main zone quest also. They are so good. All voice acted and very little of the “get 10 bear claws” mmo’s are known for you. You get to see changes in the world as you progress storylines and get meaningful choices. My only regret is I wish I woulda switched to ESO so much sooner.

WoW has been designed around only max level mattering for over about a decade now.
Leveling and exploring were fun in the first few expansions, but it slowly moved away from that.
Cata was basically blast through 5 levels as fast as you can, even if the zones had decent and coherent storylines.
After that it was all about max level.
Each time they revamped classes they made lower levels worse and worse to play, imo. Tanks not getting important threat skills, dps missing key spells and abilities for rotations, and healers losing spells and/or having only one viable spell to heal.
Leveling is just a chore now you do before playing the real game. From collecting to raiding, everything is balanced around max level or near to max level.

once you get to 60, theres no stopping you from experience that content.
you can also lock your leveling experience.
old content is old. this isn’t ESO or GW2. Adapt and move on.
no sympathy
