My Request to Blizz Regarding Wintergrasp

Hi there, like many of the players on this forum I enjoyed playing Wintergrasp when it was live back in WoLK. I remember not understanding Wintergrasp at first (Gaining rep to create vehicles and approaching the engineer to build them & that the Keep has more than one side to defend/attack) and feeling like I wished Blizzard offered a little bit of an explanation before just launching us into it.

My request for Blizzard-Activision comes from seeing the newer players who never experienced Wintergrasp in all of it’s glory and how aimless many of them are trying to figure out the objectives and just killing random things in roads. Before launching Wintergrasp this April, can you PLEASE port new players into a learning session similar to what boosts have to complete before sending players off into the general Wintergrasp population? Maybe make it like a scenario that has big flashing arrows so that they will understand that this particular BG is a little bit different than the others and may take a little more effort than the other ones?

No idea why it posted from that character.

It is slightly more complex than other battlegrounds, but this is only really an issue the first few times new players join. As with everything, practice makes perfect.

That’s happened to me before, with the different character.

The reason I’m approaching Blizzard is because I feel like when any player who knows the BG functions tries to explain how the BG works, there’s always those certain few who make bad calls so everyone either follows them or ignores chat completely. No one knows that we’re trying to help them out and it’s just one big fuster cluck.

How does this differ from other battlegrounds, though?

I’m not sure I understand your question.

I guess I can elaborate that I’ve actually made macro’s because there’s not enough time before the BG starts to explain that if you want to build vehicles you have to gain rep and that rep comes from npcs as well as players, then you have to talk to the engineer…

You know the type. They see it in chat, they don’t read it and they’ll just run off in Horde direction thinking it’s a brawl atmosphere.

They believe the damage meters is what the BG is about and they don’t consider actual objectives.

I was also in WG yesterday and kept trying to tell Alliance side that the keep was being attacked from the west but everyone was grouped on the east ignoring it and not paying attention to chat.

The quests for honor and conquest within the brawl should have been used as teaching opportunities to reaquaint the player with its mechanics.

“Kill people” and “win the brawl” are kind of useless.

You know it might be helpful if someone who remembers WG well typed out a guide with basic mechanics, strats etc. Obviously not many would read it before just jumping into it but maybe the word could be spread in chat: “If you don’t know what to do, there is a great guide in the battlegrounds section of the WoW forums. Try to go read it before your next queue. Thank you.” -macro that.

I’d do it myself but I’m in the needs to read a guide camp atm.

This is also a very good idea.

I was trying to explain attacking strategy yesterday and a couple of others kept telling everyone to make catapults and hit the keep with those. They were also telling players not to try defending towers and to ignore SR and BT workshops. It was frustrating and if I didn’t know better I would say they were tanking the game on purpose.

It also seems to just be really difficult for any attacking team. The one where I won was a defensive effort where we barely had control of any workshops, and it looked like about half of our team just kept wiping at SR over and over, yet we still wrecked their towers and they never broke past the first set of walls anywhere.

In the last one I noticed a strange bug also. At the beginning when I made a demo, it worked fine. Later when I made 3 others, the first ability that throws a boulder or whatever wouldn’t work at all. I could only use the ram.

The walls have too much health and there are no RPG’s anywhere near the front depots to take out the new OP vehicles.
