Multiboxing = Cheating

Taken from the EULA:

Consent to Monitor. WHILE RUNNING, THE PLATFORM (INCLUDING A GAME) MAY MONITOR YOUR COMPUTER OR MOBILE DEVICE’S MEMORY FOR UNAUTHORIZED THIRD PARTY PROGRAMS RUNNING EITHER CONCURRENTLY WITH A GAME OR OUT OF PROCESS. AN “UNAUTHORIZED THIRD PARTY PROGRAM” AS USED HEREIN SHALL BE DEFINED AS ANY THIRD PARTY SOFTWARE PROHIBITED BY SECTION 1.C. ABOVE. IN THE EVENT THAT THE PLATFORM DETECTS AN UNAUTHORIZED THIRD PARTY PROGRAM, (a) THE PLATFORM MAY COMMUNICATE INFORMATION BACK TO BLIZZARD, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION YOUR ACCOUNT NAME, DETAILS ABOUT THE UNAUTHORIZED THIRD PARTY PROGRAM DETECTED, AND THE TIME AND DATE; AND/OR (b) BLIZZARD MAY EXERCISE ANY OR ALL OF ITS RIGHTS UNDER THIS AGREEMENT, WITH OR WITHOUT PRIOR NOTICE TO THE USER. Additionally, certain Games include a tool that will allow your computer system to forward information to Blizzard in the event that the Game crashes, including system and driver data, and by agreeing hereto you consent to Blizzard receiving and/or using this data.

We all agreed to this.

One thing I would like to point out as I shouldn’t need too…

Blizzard clearly invests maybe into the sums of millions, to hundreds of millions on Legal teams to understand all of this, to make sure they abide by and obey all local laws and regulations far, far better than you or I, the laymen in the situation could ever truly understand.

That’s why they are paid for their time, and their employ.

People with bigger brains than us, and more connections than us, and access to information at a governmental level and not excerpts from Wikipedia and the like do this for a living, and have done it successfully for Blizzard and Activision for 15+ years just on this one aspect of their business.

I am certain they know what they are doing.

And because of that, I have enough faith in them to hit yes, when they asked me to agree too it.

That doesn’t mean it is actively checking your computer for Specific files and programs not logging them. Logging memory usage is far different than that.

Agreed. That’s why warden does what it does in the way that it does it.

It doesn’t check for specific programs nor logs that data, rather, it looks for ram usage in the same process as wow.

That is a big difference.
You can argue warden doesn’t “log programs in use”.

this poor horse. its dead. stop beating it.

Blizzard has made posts about multiboxing NOT being against the rules.

also, in regards to the third party software: my gaming mouse has software that came with it. windows is technically a third party software. you have to have it to run WoW though. and from what i’ve read, thats how MBers clone the keystrokes to the other windows.

just because YOU don’t like it and it inconveniences you, does not mean its cheating. blizzard decides what is cheating. not you.

  1. multiboxing is not against TOS, Blizz has officially said it’s not cheating.
  2. multiboxing does not give an unfair advantage. You not working hard at your real job has given you a disadvantage. The game systems are perfectly fair. Each player is just as likely to succeed as any other of the same class and each player can buy more accounts.

Sure, but to play devil’s advocate for a moment, that doesn’t mean they’ll always consult those lawyers before doing something boneheaded. Just look at Sony and their bright idea to install rootkits as an anti-piracy measure.

If there was no advantage, people wouldn’t multibox…this is naïve at best, wildly dishonest at worst

Then why doesn’t everybody multibox?

Have you not read the thread? People consider it cheating and that it has a negative impact towards the game.

But there are many people who don’t consider it cheating while also not being multiboxers.

So why wouldn’t more people multibox if it were so super duper amazing?

Selling drugs is a good way to make money, not everyone thinks it should be ilegal. Why don’t more people sell drugs even if they consider it shouldn’t be ilegal?

These are called “opinions”.

And this is not for us to decide, only Blizzard. Sure we can offer up our opinions or reports, but ultimately we have limited resources to make those kind of assumptions from.

Yes, you’re right, opinions are opinions.

Selling drugs is already illegal. Try again.

Holy hell man. Do you seriously think blizzard isn’t making money off the tokens? Someone has to buy the token with real money which is exchanged for gold.

Stay in school kids. Don’t do drugs.

Your premise implies that everyone always tries to do what is more efficient and it’s incorrect on basis.

I guarantee they consulted theirs too, but do not forget that was at a far, far different time, when people were far, far more opportunistic and willing to.

I guarantee they had a legal team that said yes, this is okay.

I live in Australia, in 2020, a Country with some of the strictest and consumer friendly laws on the face of the Earth.

It’s because of things like that that people started to learn “we can’t pull that kinda stuff anymore”.

To play the same devils advocate…

Are we to believe the people making the software all these multiboxers and botters use are as diligent and respectable with more to lose than Blizzard?.

People clearly put enough faith into them to not have everything they do gleamed out from under them, so why would Blizzard or Activision risk such an uproar now?

Multiboxing is not against the rules. Therefore there is no punishment for engaging in the practice should you feel like doing it.

Selling drugs is a federal crime and you will go to prison.

Try again when you can come up with a real argument instead of some nonsensical analogy.

Ok, let me walk you through this.

The question you pose is: why don’t more people multibox if there’s an advantage to multiboxing.

-I tell you because people hold the opinion that is cheating, impacts the economy/gameplay of others.

  • You then say: Some people don’t believe this, why don’t they multibox if it’s that good. (also, honestly, dunno, you could ask them, i can’t speak for others)

-I give an example of how people not always strive for maximum efficiency.

-You get caught up on the legal part of it.

Ok, another example then… a lot of people know that if they study a trade or a traditional career instead of dunno, a history mayor, the chances of making money is easier but people prioritize different things therefore not always following what is more efficient.
