I used a razer naga for over 10 years before it had to be replaced
Speaking from having started with a G602, which went to a 604, I got cut off after the second replacement, after about a year and a half each time the switches they use start going at least for me pretty reliable for left click as they start registering a double click on a single click. Basically just them using a cheaper part when basically $1 switches would be much more durable (and that’s retail buying them not wholesale)
Some of their older products might still be good, but I’m done with them with the quality of their current products.
I’ve destroyed 3 naga mice. Two I slammed my fist on so hard it blew out the plastic screw mounts and the mice just fell apart.
Lemme tell you razer gear is absolute junk. It’s designed to be throw away. The keyboards don’t hold up to regular abuse and the mice don’t either. Usually a button fails or the mouse wheel swallows too much hair and stops functioning properly. Or the garbage switches in the mouse go bad and start double clicking.
I’ve replaced gamepads, mouse clickers and cleaned that wheel with a lot of surgical care. It still eats hair like nobody’s business. For whatever reason they put this wheel into a design where a glue flare comes off the wheel and grabs every hair that falls into the mouse. I swear they designed it this way to frustrated you into buying a new one. Screw that company.
Logitech used to be very good in terms of quality. I still use an old Logitech MX 518 mouse for work. It looks very worn, it’s over 20 years old, but it works and it’s the most comfortable mouse I’ve used for my small hands.
I’ve run into this too. I wanted a Logitech G600 mouse years ago, but I had to return it because I couldn’t reach all of the buttons. It was made for people (probably mostly large men) with very large hands. While Razer Naga size mice work for me, I agree with you that there needs to be more options for people with even smaller hands.
Sounds like user error to me, personally…my razer mice have been the most reliable pieces of hardware I’ve had for just about anything
Take a can of compressed air and blow the heck out of it.
I absolutely abuse my scroll wheels, like guaranteed I use it more than 99% of people here and that fixes my issues basically everytime. I use Logitech g305s they last me about a year before they break, usually it’s left click that breaks first. Maybe your model has a particular issue with the scroll wheel though I’m not familiar with it.
Nah the wheel is not user error. It’s designed to fail.
The wheel has this flare on it, on both sides where the glue sides stick out. So when hair and dust falls in it collects on the glue and screws with the sensor on the wheel. That’s why it’ll spaz out after a year or so. The only way to fix it is to open it up and take a set of tweezers to the glued on hair/dust/whatever.
I replaced my razer naga epic last year. I got that thing in 2011
My first naga lasted over 10 years. The current one is going on year 3 and still works as well as the day it came out of the box. I don’t know what to tell you
I can pretty much tell you what the problem is, your hands are not clean. The middle mouse button is one of the few and the only button on most mice that come into contact with your flesh and also make direct contact with the button sensor. The dirt and grime from your hand (maybe sweat) are clogging your sensor.
.
Simply watching a youtube video will show you how to disasemble your brand and model of mouse so that you can clean the sensor with some alcohol.
.
Then get into the habit of washing your hands before you use it and periodically during long play sessions.
I’ve had my current MMO mouse for 4 years (UtechSmart Venus Gaming Mouse). It’s about the same size as the Razer Naga. I had a few Razer Naga mice before bought my current mouse.
You’re probably not hairy like me. And my dogs are also hairy. So there’s no way that mouse wheel stays clean for a decade. No way at all.
Blowing air into it doesn’t help when the hair is wound up in that wheel flare.
I just stopped using wired mouses since I switched my setup from Monitor + Desk to Couch + TV.
I need them to be wireless and responsive.
After a while, playing in other places, the dependency of the multitude of side buttons of MMO mouses became apparent, so I decided to break free and settle for simple 5 button mouses.
I currently use the silent kb+mouse combo from Logitech, and I simply can’t fathom using noisy mouses anymore.
The silent clicking was a literal life changer for me.
I have a logitech mouse I use. Similar to the Razer Naga… So far so good now in terms of durability. Has lasted for a while.
One thing I will suggest in terms of hardware (mouse and keyboard)… don’t snack and use your stuff without washing/wiping your hands. Chips, seasoned popcorn, etc. The grease, powder, etc, builds up over time and causes buttons to go mushy, and clicks to not register.
Hmmmmm, now that I think about it I do have a habit of having a random snack nearby or a bag of candies on the desk. I also keep my car keys/keychain on the same desk, and my phone, and a jug of water, and a few bottles of various vitamins, etc - it’s just convenient to have everything “within arms reach” (if that makes sense) when I’m starting my day
Usually I try to wipe off my hand on my t-shirt and it seems to get the snack food grease/oils off, but who knows… it’s possible trace/tiny amounts of oil or sugar residue somehow end up on the mouse
I know my keyboard certainly has “gamer gunk” spots here and there, although I’ve never had any issue with any of the keys on a keyboard going bad.
Powder and grease are generally the concerns I think. Keyboards, I find to be a little more robust, but there are times when certain keys wear out, or get mushy. Probably the more common ones used - movement, or number keys being spammed as abilities.
Really depends on lifestyle and snack choice, heh… Easy to not realize, and I have a few dead razer nagas over the last bunch of years to prove it. Plus, I mean, normal wear and tear on tech stuff is always going to be a factor too eventually.
For fixing your broken stuff… If you’re comfortable with reassembly… you could try opening up your mouse and googling some cleaning videos on youtube. That might help the cause at least a bit.
I don’t use MMO mice, but the WD-40 ‘trick’ has worked in the past for my scroll wheel button (M3). It’s not a magic bullet, but it can work.
My hands aren’t quite as small as yours, but I do have problems with the bigger gaming mice. I bought this one a couple of years ago and I’ve noticed a huge difference. It’s way smaller and lighter while having a couple of extra buttons.
at this point, i have prob spent a stupid amount on mice.
and the odd solution imo is to simply buy 2 or 3 of the same mice while they are still in production. you save like an extra 200% from the future mark up prices scalpers flip them for after its discontinued.
Granted, could always go with a new mouse but muscle memory is already programed. its easier to keep the same button layout than to change it all mid season of an expansion.
as far as mice middle buttons, haven’t had one fail yet. but with certain profiles its possible to have the MM button key bound wrong.
Possible thing to test/ do is set the MM button to a different key. if pressing the MM button then uses the new keybind then the problem is fixed. just have to keybind the new key the MM button was changed to.
I had my Razor Mouse for Four-Five Years, and barely replaced it this year. With the same brand of course, the rest of my family may hate razor, but it lasted a while for me!
