Please Blizzard for the love of god, use a similar concept like layers to nodes for professsions. It’s literally impossible to raise your gathering skill no matter what zone or layer you are it’s empty. I don’t care what method you used but do something to increase spawn timers according to density of players in the area.

You can level mining up by smelting ores if you have such difficulty finding nodes in open world.

Feel bad for herbalism, at least on leveling mining I could just buy the ore from the AH and sell the bars for more than the ore cost. Guess its nice more people are going dual production professions.
Thorium does stop at 290, but you can do some jump runs in DM: East for guaranteed thorium veins

blizzard fixed this in MoP (or late cata?) already so we already have a solution to this issue. after a node is mined/herbed it will stay up for 30 seconds to let anyone else pick it before it vanishes. and with blizzard’s current stance on multiboxers, this won’t be an issue for that either.

Yup, I’ve just returned for Wrath and figured id make a dk gatherer to supply gold for my other characters.
I’ve spent 15-20 hours leveling mining and herbalism. Im at 215 and 260. Nodes are few and far between. Maybe that’s the way it was back in the day, but I don’t recall it being so.
P.S. to the person posting about just smelting to level. First off, if youre fresh back, like me, you dont have gold to purchase all that ore. Second, it stops giving skill levels fairly quickly. Once it turns green, it usually takes 5 or more ore to get one skill point. Not exactly efficient, or affordable for many.

Some of it is your timing - a lot of DKs (and new mains) going Engineering/JC because it’s the meta, and to a lesser people still farming herbs for inscription.
So not only are you competing with players farming to level their own skills, you’re competing with bots/farmers farming because AH prices for mats are super inflated because of that spike in value.
You do understand maybe 99.99% of players made fresh toons and are working on their professions?
I leveled mining/herb together 1 week before wrath launch with no competition in sight.
Just as case in point, I stopped to mine Iron nodes I passed in Duskwood last night. [Two weeks] ago I wouldn’t have bothered, but at least temporarily they are worth it.
level up before caring about professions, then you’ll have 2-3k gold and you can solo a lot of dungeons which have ore inside them.
Also I’ve leveled mining in a couple days just running around in circles in certain areas - it’s not that bad.

I started with 300 gold on my DK, and on my server during the first week, ores were cheaper than bars. So I made money smelting. Could still be the case but I’m not looking at ore/bar prices at the moment (and the AH is down).
I didn’t seed any money to my DK, except to buy flying. But I quested a bit and cleared hellfire before leveling mining, which is where the gold came from.

That’s viable because you’re in your non fresh mega server. but Skyfury is really struggling to get materials. so this doesn’t apply to you
I agree it’s terrible, but you won’t get any sympathy from the wow classic community. They are pretty much opposed to any change that would make the game easier, especially for newcomers, in any way possible. They can’t seem to articulate why, but they’ll spam your topic opposing you, as if you’d need their permission to ask the devs to fix a problem.
They will however lobby for changes when it makes the game more difficult or forces people to talk to them more. As I get to know the WOW classic community better some pieces are starting to come together.

Yo blizzard, stop being an indie small company, Improve this in mega servers specially fresh mega servers like Skyfury. No wonder Riot company has a better reputation.
Everyone is taking advantage of the new paladin and death knights that make up so much of servers right now and mining nodes into non-existence, I still managed to finish mining and basically got JC up for free out of it. So it’s doable just takes forever while you compete with mages and druids farming every mining node in the hopes they can essentially sell it back to you in the auction house, cause they won’t use it. I don’t expect this to be better in wrath honestly, probably worse as I expect even more DKs and even more people boosting mining to try and take advantage of them. This would usually mean lots of competition and better prices, but in a game where blizzard doesn’t ban RMT, a lot of players bought gold and will buy things higher than they should be because of it, Fing over anyone who doesn’t RMT or gdkp as a carry.
I ran all the way around felwood and found 1 mithril vein… This seems off.
