Abbath is a massive goober. Nothing he says should ever be taken seriously.
DemonWalk tm
Theres a great band photo of immortal where theyre trying to look scary with fantasy weapons and his fly is open.
Oh dang thanks for the heads up! That’s a masterpiece of an album and I always regretted not catching one of the stops on the tour.

Im tempted to post that infamous Gaahl one liner… well one worder. Itll be ok if i follow it up with a recent one.
This is actually a very good interview. The man has a unique perspective on the scene for sure.
The solo album this interview is for is really good btw.
im 55, been listening to this side of forever, seems like the older i get the heavier the metal gets
I tried to like what you people like then I came out questioning why you like it even more
Different floats for different boats
I’m much the same. At some point in my late 40s I realized I was stuck in a musical rut, so I made the decision to start searching out newer music. There’s some really great, newer metal bands out there. Though I’ll admit I’m never going to love death growls, or whatever it is they’re doing in black metal. I can take the growls in small doses, like when a band has multiple vocalists filling different roles, or when one singer using growling as a tool along with other vocal styles. But when all they do is growl, I can’t listen for long.
(Admittedly, some of that comes from my being a natural bass/baritone who worked for years to stretch my range upward, and about the time I could finally hit the high notes, these growlers showed up going low…)
I don’t think I saw any videos from the King in this thread, can’t talk about old-school metal without him:
And something a bit newer:
And one of the best Black / Death Metal bands:
Powerwolf is definitely not. They’re making fun of it.
If you listen to a black metal band that uses double bass to blast beat or records in a studio and not in a bathroom it isn’t real black metal
This is true kvlt.
I would add to that, if you can read the band name it isn’t real black metal
Trueee!! . There was one band I found that I enjoyed, but it took me like a year to rediscover them because I could never read their name. I found em mentioned on a very specific yahoo answers question
