I think that more options need to be shared, yes.
Unless I’m mistaken, the key defining feature of the void is that it is absolutely corrupting. It has corrupted Dragons, Gods, and Titans without fail. So, after hundreds of years wielding the void, and then devouring the core of a Dark Naaru, one would think Alleria should be showing some signs of void corruption.
Except she isn’t. She STILL looks like a High Elf. Therein lies the problem. The entire race’s existence is predicated upon Alleria’s, that there is a way to wield the void without being corrupted by it. Alleria should have been the exception to the rule, but instead Blizzard decided, ‘Nah, we’ll make an entire race an exception to the rule.’
Surprise, surprise, when you make a race based out of a character that is an exception to the rule, but don’t make the race the exception to the rule, players get miffed.
Blood elves (particularly female belfs) already have more customization options than void elves. Instead of continually merging the two, how about we get some new hairstyles? Void elves in particular could use more void-specific options across the board and it would be nice to have more jewelry options as well.
All Blood Elf hair styles, jewelry, facial hair, hair colors, and eye colors with the exception of gold should be shared to Void Elves.
As well as the Paladin and Demon Hunter class.
Big things people like brae miss is that a majority doesn’t want, the heavily particular void corrupted styles he’s talking about.
News flash, they tried making an aesthetically unappealing race before, twice even, and they’re the most unpopular races in the game Kul Tiran and diaper babies.
We seem to be tunneling over the word Void, when there’s also the word elf, if you want good void aesthetics, Fen spams the good ones constantly, there’s a way to make the void appealing, and grotesqueness is not it.
People also seem to forget that just because you dabble in Void doesn’t mean it has to corrupt your body. It can also mean corrupting your mind, which Alleria and the Void Elves have expressed they are aware about and have to deal with daily.
Real talk?
I think Blizzard would better off just retconning Void Elves out of existence, and just roll all of the options under “Blood Elves”, assuming we’re ever going to see an end to the Faction barrier as it stands currently.
Alleria is in all ways a Void Elf, you always try to deny her voidness to support your opinion on how a void elf should look, she absorbed a whole void lord and that didn’t corrupt her… void itself didn’t neither corrupt umbric nor the other elves, it was a ritual of enslavement and such ritual won’t likely happen again.
I want VE facial hair and the options to have actual beards.
So to sum up this entire topic is one kid crying because another kid got something they want.
“I dismiss other opinions although they pay the same price as me”
Let’s stop here. If people are upset, then let them be. Nobody won with the Void Elves in the end.
I’d disagree with this statement.
People that love the Void, like myself, won by getting a race that has Void involved in their lore.
People that love High Elves, like myself, won by getting High Elves finally playable on the Alliance.
And while that second point didn’t start off as a huge win, it grew over time as more and more customization was added.
If you wanted void you should have asked for Ethereals. Not this weird hybrid that makes neither the high elf crowd happy, nor the void crowd. Ethereals could have gone full-on void, giving void players everything they wanted with the theme and not having to share the theme with anyone else.
I don’t think we have nearly enough high elf options. I don’t think we look anything like a high elf still, and all of our voice lines, racials, and cosmetics simply just don’t tick the box either. Again, we still don’t even have paladins as a class and we’ll have to wait years for that if it even happens. So I don’t count this as a win.
That is something I’ve been doing for a while now.
Of course, that isn’t entirely a correct statement on your part as Ethereals aren’t exactly the same. Sure, they do have Void in their background in terms of the Void attacking their home world. However, Void Elves have the added benefit of Void actually being apart of them which is an additional cool factor.
Additionally, full on Void Ethereals wouldn’t really make total sense as those have consistently been apart of the evil Ethereal faction.
Don’t we have a full-on void ethereal in Telgorus helping the void elves? I mean, they could have worked it to where that guy found other Ethereal members who thought the same way as he did (Maybe even the normal arcane ethereal could join and he turns them void) and then he starts a mini faction that goes to help the alliance because of his ties with Alleria.
I would rather merge all the Quel’Dorei into a singular faction not beholden to the horde/alliance narrative with tentacle, or eye color nothing more than a cosmetic options. (Perhaps with the added ability to chose the tentacle racials in the intro quests)
Why do people want another faction. They will never make another faction when they can’t handle the two we have, and they definitely won’t create a faction just for one race. The best they could do is just make Thalassians neutral to both factions.
- Blood Elf-players are “upset” although this topic does not concern them. High Elves were always a part of the Alliance storyline moving out- and forward from WotLK.
- Void Elf-players are upset because they need to share their race with Alliance High Elves
- High Elf-players are upset because they aren’t a full-fledged race despite being an actual subrace and the whole ordeal started as a compromise race
The biggest win came with a clear answer from the developers: “We do not care for your kindergarten wars here, the Alliance got their subrace. Here, have the Dark Rangers as a subrace as well”.
