Melee Survivability In BG?

root and snare definitions are usually used in place of each other. Both prevent free movement of characters, as the frost nova catches the enemy and holds them in a position rooting them in place until the spell is broken
and if we go by leagues defintion, your frost nova would be classified as a snare.

well it apparently is classified as a root in wow, although that really does not change the overall message.Also apparently a snare is a slow as well, as a root. " Snare effects are a form of [crowd control] that reduce a victim’s movement speed"

TBF, mages have always been ret’s counter. Just keep your distance and spellsteal BoF. A ret shouldn’t be a problem unless you have like no CDs or are very poorly clothed. :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

Throw in a Ret, a Fury warr and a DH popping all cd’s into an enemy group and just watch them all melt. Exactly as Vanx said, it’s all about breaking the enemy line. You have to not be afraid/mind death.

The enemy dies and/or scatters and you’ve won the stategic mid fight. This only works in unorganized randoms because any organized enemy would simply hold the line and use Fire / Boomkin / Frost etc. to neuter you from range.

Only frost mage should be a hard fight for melee. You are really having a hard time fighting fire and arcane mages? WOW!

The mage versus melee fight is highly dependent on what class/specs are involved.

Some abilities remove snares but not roots and some abiliites can be used when snared but not when rooted. They are mechanically different by quite a lot in WoW.

yes and fire mage is a top dps spec for this season. The higher rating the more likely you’ll find a fire mage, they are extremely capable in nuking a player from 100-0. So the complaints about game being melee oriented coming from fire mages is laughable when you consider in their control and insane burst. snare, poly, and dragons breath should be enough to deal with the majority of melee in a 1v1 situation. If you have good positioning and decent spell usage there shouldn’t be much trouble fighting in random bgs, already described in legion by horrlock.

Which is an issue concerning term usage considering the text book definition applies to frost nova and even wow’s own definition applies to frost nova

Fire is just completely OP now anyway. If they burst and you lack an immunity you’re getting burnt to a crisp. :hot_face:

The higher you go in ratings the more you find rogues you mean. And for the record i don’t believe mages are weak, the contrary. But mages are NOT the only caster in the game. I just think it’s funny that as soon as a caster can handle melee the sky is falling.

Are you denying that melee, nearly every class and spec, has more gap closers, uptime, stuns, snares, CC than they ever had?

I’m denying that rets have more gap closers uptime, stuns and cc than they ever had. In fact almost all melee (besides rogue from what I hear) has lost mobility, cc and other forms of gap closers. The problem is range has lost theirs as well,
As a ret I don’t have consistent speed boosts like i used to, repentance and blinding light are now a talent on the same bar, emancipation has been removed, and most of our ranged abilities have been pruned besides a slow and hammer of wrath (now a talent ,Yay? ) it’s that some classes have lost more than others.

The OP wanted to know how to survive as a melee player I gave him a comparison in order to stress the importance of positioning and analyzing the enemy team. also no one was crying about the sky falling (besides maybe bargrand)

Side note the higher you go in ratings the more fire mages represent the top 15 specs. at 2300 it’s 5.9%, 2500 6.4%…etc

I want to feel sympathetic but then I get mongo’d by 4 rogues/warriors while mages spam greater pyros on me so nvm all ya’ll suck lol

Being that this is caster dominant right now with Fire Mages completely broken, Boomkins being Tanks with huge burst, Spriest are tankier than most tanks, Locks have 1 shots. It is a hard road for melee to not get nuked in a group setting. Especially Epic Bgs.

The only counter to all of that is Prot Pally. You can block spells even Dots. Blocking a Gpyro while fighting other melee is important. Also reducing all the damage that all the other casters put on you by blocking their Dots. You have a flat % dmg reduction in Conc, 2 immunities, also Divine Steed is immune to CC/Poly. So you can get away heal to full.

Prot pally also has the most broken off healing in game with hand of protector critting for 100k+ instant heals. Overall it counters most things and is by far the most tanky melee because of all the caster protection it has. Not to mention all of its burst dmg is ranged and you have a ranged silence where at least you can stop someone.

It’s amazes me if you don’t know? Afflic stacking ID for 1 shots has been happening all expansion. Then Destruction has been hitting 100k Chaos bolts with good gear and set up. Those 100k’s too are happening in Arena so with Berserker buff, pots etc you 100% can 1 shot someone easily in a BG setting :rofl::rofl::rofl:

I’ve seen (and been hit by) 100k+ chaos bolts recently. Not sure exactly what it is, like talents or traits but it’s nasty.

Indeed here is the nerf Destro thread with Picture to check it out. Where someone hit someone with a 110k Bolt and the lower one was 106k lol. In Arena btw. So BGs what can you hit 150k+ with buffs :rofl::rofl:
