It’s also funny when they gave the same rationale for Dwarven Warlocks - as of Cataclysm, given the Dark Iron coming into the fold, they’re playable. We already have the correct pasty skin colour, but won’t get the fiery red eyes since they’re not corrupted by Ragnaros.
Flash forward…

This is why I hold out hope. They will maybe one day rectify their mistake with the Wildhammer.

Likewise for Dragonmaw.
Going full tinfoil - the only logical reason they deliberately chose not to include their skintones and customizations in the revamp is because they’re lined up for an Allied Race.

Right? I’m secretly hoping both will be released later on. Lol

That’s what I think really, let’s be real, blizzard loves using reskins for Allied Races, so gives hope for us.

Yeah, like I alluded to in the OP, I would love for them to be introduced during either a Void- or Dragon-based expansion. Their location in the Twilight Highlands being so tied to the Void makes them a perfect ally to give both factions a foothold, and their obvious focus on aerial combat would also make them expert boons should we need to take to the skies (floating Dragon Isles, anyone?).

How is a dragonmaw different from other orcs even?
Aside from a general skin tone difference you mean?
They have an affinity for taming creatures and particular fondness for Azeroths dragons (protodrake now).
They also produced a few very capable warlocks and are exemplary warriors from the back of a mount whether it be aerial or ground based.
I’d argue that they have enough cultural differences from other clans to warrant an AR slot.
I mean in a visual level. They seem to be slightly more gray and that’s it. Maybe give orcs that skin tone and that covers it.
Visual difference is only one part of what makes an AR.
Few have significant differences in that regard. So that’s not a block on it.
Wildhammer should have been an AR. Despite looking very close to Bronzebeard Dwarves their cultures are miles apart.
These things matter.

Nah. it’s a waste of resources. We don’t need a third dwarf race that will be as marginally popular as the others are. customization was a good way of doing them. ARs were most likely always going to be that but nightborne happened.
I disagree with your opinion.
These races are too different from the parent race to be minor customization.
I appreciate what blizzard is trying to do but disagree with it entirely.
Aside from the ashen-to-purple skintones, they also have glowing amber eyes and draconic brands or tattoos. Add in whatever else the artists wants to come up with, and you already have much more distinction than 90% of the existing options.
And to elaborate on the cultural differences, they are also unconquered. The Second War never ended for them. They’re much more berserker-style than Thrall’s comparably pacifistic Horde, or the humbled Mag’har refugees.

I think Wildhammer clan dwarves and Dragonmaw clan orcs have plenty of cultural and enough options that would differentiate them to warrant AR treatment, and just adding them as customization is a far cry from actually doing anything of worth.

Dragonmaw are just as distinct from base Orcs as Highmountain are from regular Tauren: isolated, unconquered, a draconic influence, and a propensity for flight.
And Wildhammer and Bronzebeard Dwarves are infinitely more distinct than Bronzebeard and Dark Iron. Same culture, different mountain, as it were.

Also, as noted above, it would be cool to get some alternative class options.
The Dragonmaw Ascendant gives us precedent for Orcish shapeshifters with a draconic theme. Perfect fodder for an Orc Druid reskin. Dragonmaw Hunters would give us the perfect opportunity to finally give us the ability to tame Dragonkin.
And if you want to get really nuts… I could totally see a Wildhammer-themed Demon Hunter reskin with a berserker/gryphon take on it.

In a just world, this would be Keldar in Shadowlands.

No one has ever heard of the Dragonmaw Clan.
Bad choice for an Allied Race.

While I wouldn’t mind these being actual allied races, the appearance options added to both of these races arguably allow you to make your own.
One thing they could do is add alternate racials to better let us roleplay these mechanically.
