Megathread: Ogres as Playable Allied race

Interestingly, I found another quest where you become “King/Queen of the Ogres.” Sorta similar to becoming the King of the Gordunni. It takes place in this quest:

It turns all hostile Ogres in Blade’s Edge Mountain to neutral as a result, which includes both the Bloodmaul and the Bladespire clans:

Apparently, you can do some amusing things as noted in the Bladespire page. It mentions needing to be friendly or above with Ogri’la Ogres, but you can do the following emotes to Ogres in Blade’s Edge Mountains (I assume any Ogres in the area) to have amusing results:

  • /dance with the ogres and they will dance back.
  • /kiss and they will say “Aw, me not think it will work out between us.”
  • /fart and they will fart back at you and say “Me like to fart too!”
  • /wave and they will wave back.
  • /angry and they will cower in fear of their angry [King/Queen].

A few comments on the Wowhead page for the quest I linked above mentions a few more emotes:

  • /point - “What me do wrong, my king?”
  • /roar - They roar back.
  • /charge - They charge.
  • /cheer and /train also said to work

Several more emotes may work as well that are not listed. Might be a fun thing to experiment with.

I haven’t actually done this quest, so I don’t know if becoming their King/Queen is permanent or temporary, like with the Gordunni Ogres. I shall be looking into this in the near future.

Kinda funny that I can become the king of several Ogre clans, but I can’t get them to mobilize and join the Horde. Maybe I need some better motivation or something…or somehow figure out what the Stonemaul are up to so I can get them to be more of a presence in the Horde. If only…

OGRES! OGRES! OGRES!

One day they will be playable, and I await that day with bated breath.

So while waiting for Shadowlands, I’ve been going back and redoing some quests in Dustwallow, Feralas, and other areas involving Ogre stuff. I remembered a quest that involved retrieving the Stonemaul banner:

The Stonemaul banner looks like this:

Looking at the white part of the banner, it looks like it is something that would work great for a Stonemaul tabard, especially if the playable Ogre faction becomes the Stonemaul Clan specifically. I know I would wear that tabard proudly!

It just adds another reason why the Stonemaul Clan, at the very least, should be part of if not THE playable Ogre faction and also makes the most sense, in my opinion. If only I could figure out what they’ve been up to lately…

On another note, I did clear out all wings of Dire Maul and even became the Gordok King as per this quest:

Talking to the Stonemaul Ogre that gives this quest, he says the following:

"You kill Gordok leader, you new ogre king. If you king, then ogre leaders like Kromcrush and Kreeg that survive pay you big tribute and you stop Gordok invasion. If you do that, then me very happy ogre and we take Dire Maul FOR DA HORDE!!!

Go, little (character race) ! Kill ugly Gordok ogre king and maybe dis be new Stonemaul Hold! Yar!"

Finishing the quest:

“Little-(character race) did it! Now Horde more powerful than ever! YAR!”

Funny how I clear out Dire Maul as a whole and become the Gordok King, and the Horde hasn’t really done much to take over Dire Maul. Maybe this Ogre got lost on the way to report the news? All I know is that Dire Maul was empty for a long time, according to the Traveler book series, and the Gordunni may have returned to it.

Speaking of, as Gordok King, I tried to mobilize the Gordunni to stop being jerks and join the Horde, but they wouldn’t budge! I even tried incentives, but all they would do is offer me tribute. Maybe I need to present a slideshow of all the perks and benefits of being a member of the Horde or something. That or a stockpile of food and ale would work…

Until then, my investigations of what the Horde Ogres have been up to and where they are currently continues:

I feel like I’m going to be waving a magnifying glass everywhere to find any clues. :male_detective:

I’d love to see the Stonemaul Ogre clan becoming the player race Ogres for the Horde! Always thought they should’ve been doing more with the Stonemauls, especially after playing through the whole Rexxar campaign a few years ago.

…and more recently, of course, with Warcraft 3: Reforged.

Absolutely love the idea. But, probably will never happen. One of the biggest issues being ogres can’t fit inside buildings unless they raise the doorways a bit, which seems highly unlikely, expensive, and time consuming.

Not necessarily. Zandalari are, as far as I can tell, the tallest of playable races in the game so far. Ogres could easily be around the same height, or a little taller, and they should be fine, I think?

Armor might be tricky for them but, Blizzard could probably make that work.

In lore, I think Ogri’la Ogres are shorter than Tauren. Ogres have a huge height range that depends on clan and age. I don’t think they ever stop growing.

Ogres have a large height range in lore. Some ogres are shorter than tauren. The two toys you can get in game that turn you into an ogre turn you into an ogre just shorter than a tauren.

It has been really frustrating that we don’t see any of the Stonemaul even as grunts in the Horde army elsewhere. Considering that the Stonemaul owes a lot to the Horde and are happy to be a part of it, you’d think the Horde would be utilizing them in some fashion. Sadly, they seem to have forgotten the Stonemaul and don’t use them for anything. Not for wars against the Alliance. Not for world-ending threats. Just…forgotten. Really wish I knew if they even got their home back at this point.

On another note, I have become King of the Ogres!

Now if only I could get them to join the Horde and get on that character creation screen. It would be my royal decree for sure. ← <;

I agree. It’s really disappointing seeing how badly the Ogres have been left behind. Maybe one day soon they’ll finally have their day, that would be very nice!

And grats on becoming king of the Ogres!

I see the lords work has been carried on.

It’s good to see you posting again. You were one of my inspirations of posting support for playable Horde Ogres, in which I tried to keep the ball rolling as best as I could. Still trying after all this time, despite no signs of Horde Ogres at all throughout BfA. Welcome back!

I’ve been meaning to post my support for playable Ogres here.

This is something that I’ve been wanting for a long time and I hope eventually they end up on the character creation screen.

Until then I shall keep waiting.

I’m seeing posts for other playable races.

As a reminder, Playable Ogre lives matter.

And they matter most. I looked it up online.

Nothing visually screams “FOR THE HORDE!!” more than Ogres and Amani Trolls back in the Horde. (although Revantusk tribe is already supporting horde currently)

Gimme giant, ugly Ogre women.

I think the developers are too hung up on having all females be a hot cross-play of the male representatives. Even Tauren swing in this direction. I say, unleash your creativity here.

Let the Ogre male be the hotter, skinnier version of the female.

Technically two ogre clans support the Horde.

If you want to stretch, there are four. The Stonemaul (been there since WC3), Dunemaul (joined in Cataclysm), Mok’nathal (while not a proper ogre clan, the tribe supposedly includes some full-blooded ogres among them), and the remnants of the Gorian Empire (who came over with the Mag’har and were promptly forgotten, along with a number of Ogron).

If Blizz ever did anything with Dire Maul, they could feasibly bring the Gordok tribe into the Horde as well.

This would be the Gordunni Clan, as the Gordok are the upper class of the clan. Seeing as the leader of the Gordunni becomes whoever kills and takes over as King Gordok, it would be fairly easy to write them as joining the Horde if a member of the Horde were to become the Gordok King. Would be a lot more fun to get them as one of the Horde clans and Dire Maul for the Horde as opposed to just slaughtering them all.

The Dunemaul have been AWOL since Cataclysm, where Megs Dreadshredder took them to who-knows-where to do who-knows-what for her. They were also potentially abducted by the Legion demons during the Legion pre-patch. Other than that, their whereabouts are unknown.

The Gorian remnants have disappeared into fat air since the Mag’har recruitment scenario, standing among the various Draenor races and creatures. They were not among the Draenor denizens the Mag’har used in various world quests and they have yet to show up at all in-game, and I don’t see why they wouldn’t join the Horde as opposed to being sticks-in-the-mud and going off elsewhere to accomplish very little as their own tribe and likely becoming mooks that get slaughtered.

The Stonemaul have not done much since Cataclysm, other than an emissary in MoP meant as a jobber for the Alliance to kill as a daily quest. It’s unknown what they’ve been up to, whether their got their home back or not, and why they didn’t help take over Dire Maul while the Gordunni were off doing things with that one human bad guy in the Traveler series, since the area was suppose to be empty. Not to mention missing a huge war with the Alliance despite owing the Horde quite a lot.

The Mok’nathol I personally don’t really consider an Ogre clan. Sure, some are in there, but it has become more of an ideology that multiple races (Orc, Ogre, and Half races of both currently) could technically be apart of. Most people who think of Mok’nathol or want Mok’nathol playable think of the half race specifically, and I don’t think lumping them in with Ogres, who act much differently than Mok’nathol and have different cultures compared to each other, would be a popular decision and wouldn’t be the best fit. Just my opinion, of course.

As I mentioned before, seems like each of the Ogre Clans that have something to do with the Horde end up forgotten and abandoned, but I’ve typed so much on this topic before that I could likely type a thesis paper on the subject. Still, I hope the Horde remembers the Stonemaul Clan at least and we can see them help out against whatever the current world-ending threat is.
