Megathread: Ogres as Playable Allied race

I completely and genuinely hope Alliance don’t get high elves just to spite the people who behave as badly as this guy.

Ilu too my spiteful friend. May life bring nothing but joy and happiness to you because you sound like you need it as life is just so hard for you.

=)

HElves and Ogres are the two most requested races. I get the frustration at the HElf stuff expanding, but no reason to try to shut down other people’s hopes like that

I’m pro HElf (Albeit pro HElf from the NElf model as a cheeky Vanilla reference, like Nozdormu in DS) and I’m pro Ogre. The two can live in harmony

I disagree.

Who couldn’t see this coming. lol

Not an allied race. A real race, alongside Ethereals for the Alliance.

the problem, is, HE were added on horde under another name

you can still play it, not in the way you like, but at least is something, they even put another in purple, there is 2 he in the game and no ogre, you can play then and RP then the way you desire, with ogres you can’t.

if they added ogres on alliance i would not even mind at this point, cause nothing is rly like then except the jokes about kultirans, and they are not even close.

but like people said, not rly the place to discuss this

tbh, it take it a long time for it.

the problem is “real race” s fr blizzard standing point, will never happen again because the allied race system is here for stay, even for new races.

And to be fair the main difference s the lacking of starting zones, and i don’t mind that if its the only way to get then.

As I stated before in the thread, I lean more towards Ogres being a core race instead of an allied race. A lot more time would be allowed to give more care in designing them, possibly even allowing two-headed Ogres for those that want them. With allied races, they might not have a long development time, potentially being rushed to meet a more strict deadline, and I can see the race suffering from that.

If a Cataclysm 2.0 is going to happen in the future, having Ogres as a core race would at least allow them to have their own starting area (Dustwallow Marsh for Stonemaul Ogres). Preferably, I would like an open starting zone that anyone can come and go into at any time, much like the vanilla and BC races. I’m not too fond of the locked story-progression style of the Goblins or Worgens, the latter of which has had a lot of problems with their starting area that to my knowledge has yet to really be fixed and is a bit of a roadblock for new Worgen, and the whole thing becomes a chore to go through when you want to make multiple alts of said races. It also is annoying for those who want to group up with friends, but can’t at the beginning and have to wait for someone to finish the locked starting area first.

It is easy to see core races likely not be made again, given that allied races are less complex and not as time-consuming to make, but I feel like new core races are still a possibility. Core races do offer things allied races wouldn’t, and potentially could cause a lot of hype when announced. I wouldn’t rule out new core races completely, but I can understand the view of them not being likely.

I wouldn’t mind if Ogres were an allied race, afterall we would get them playable in that case. I just don’t want them rushed out while being buggy in their animations and such. Ogres are suppose to be the ones good at breaking stuff. They shouldn’t be broken, themselves. :V

Wont be a Cata 2.0 too much money for not enough profit for them even if its phased so both worlds exist as an option, BfA was literally there best chance to created it because theres a giant freaking sword stabbed in our planets a.s.s atm and pretty sure a crust hitting blade of that size and impact would’ve done alot more then kill the zone of silithids.

Also Allied Races are here to stay for Subraces, Alternate Races and New Races, its a timesaver and cuts down on budget for Blizzard because it stops them having to do gigantic zones or questlines for there starting and in the case of some Sub and Alternate Races its a good excuse for low work level like LFD and Highmountains, doesn’t mean we wont’ get Ogres on a new skeleton since that still applies in new expansions just under the Allied Race section of things.

I agree with the possibility of a Cataclysm 2.0 being unlikely. As I said, I have a hard time believing a lot of the rumors. They would require so much overhauling of the game, that I would only believe it when I see it. I could be wrong, of course, but that is just how I view it.

Honestly, in many ways, I do like the allied race system. It does allow races to be playable that likely would have little to no chances as being in as a core race. We also know from the Kul’Tirans that Blizzard would create new models for an allied race if they decide to add a race to the game that needs it. At the moment, it seems like the current allied races are linked to a core race, but that could always change.

Regardless, I do like the allied race system, and hope it isn’t abandoned past BfA. I’m perfectly fine with Ogres and other races I want becoming an allied race also. Time will tell to see what Blizzard does with it, as well as what the future allied races are.

Even if negatively received which is had been mostly due to being thinking ‘New Races’ are still seperates cause of misinformation generally it’ll stay till the game dies or until no new races are ever coming again basically, its easy to work with and i personally like the system myself both from a business standpoint for the devs and a consumer one for us gamers.

I just hope its not used as an excuse by the management to create low key races from here on out, still wanna see the grade races got for Pandaren, Worgen and Goblins who were major shifts, thats why im hopeful for Vrykul (who are absent why this expac?) and Ogres on the Giants of War patch i’d call it xP.

We have high elves… they’re on the Horde. If ogres got added to the Alliance I’d be pissed, but I’d also immediately do a full reroll to the Alliance and turn every single possible character I have into an ogre.

If that were true they wouldn’t have made a distinction between core races and allied races. I know Blizz said allied races aren’t subraces but come on, they are. And that’s a good thing. Real races should have special dedication and their own time in the spotlight.

real races will still use the same “allied race system” but it’s how it’s used that will set it apart. I’d imagine regular races would get their own starting areas and perhaps more lax on the requirements to make one…no rep maybe?

It’d still be done via the same game/programming system though.

I’d like to see the whole character creation thing overhauled and expanded with more allied/customization options.

Choose your race…dwarf.
Then choose your subrace…bronzebeard, wildhammer, darkiron, earthen, etc. Differing racial abilities and appearances to choose from.
Then you choose your class based on the above choices.

Could even have some options greyed out if they require an unlock via story or some such…I’d rather it be story unlocks than rep…boo.

This is more advanced then a Roleplayers serious TRP

I agree with this heavily. I would love Ogres on the horde and I believe they should have been added long ago! They fit the horde perfectly.

One eye, two heads please

but they aren’t doing anymore

Ion said in a recent interview that the allied race system will be the one they will use to add new races, because its easy

taking zandalari and kultirans on account, the only difference of “core race” and allied race by now is the lack of starting zone.

All the allied races are clear subraces of the core races. Human-Kul’Tiran. Dwarf-DI. NE-Nightborne. Draenei-LF. Orc-Mag’har. Troll-Zandalari. Tauren-HM. BE-VE. What Ion said was that allied races can be pumped out more easily because they’re reskins. He didn’t mention new core races.

Pretty sure early on he said or write down its the new system for all races.
