Also not even remotely similar either. What you’re describing would be akin to having to clear all 8 dungeons on a +5 when you failed a +6
Oh and add in that we get full credit of crests and score and everything else too! just no downgrade to a key!
Well, to be fair. Maybe not the score.
Yeah, but that all takes time. That’s what you’re not realizing.
Yeah, I am not sure if I feel great about getting a 9 rewards and doing so well that I would get a level that I’m not really ready for.
TWW M+ key levels are steep.
no, what i described is the following:
failing a mists of tirna scithe tredrova fight on a +15.
to get your key back to a 15, you have to clear Ingra Moloch, Mistcaller, all the trash, AND tred’rova.
if you wipe on a raid boss on mythic, you get to immediately reset and try again.
I figured with how the playerbase has aged with the game that wasting 40 minutes of gaming time is punishment enough. Did players never leave their parent’s basement? I sure don’t have as much time to game now as I did when m+ first came out.
there has to be some repercussion to failure
I thought there was extra gear associated with making the timer?
Yeah, but that all takes time. That’s what you’re not realizing.
Everything takes up time, video games always take up time. People have to redo levels in games, that takes up time. This conversation is equivalent to that. Let’s say you’re playing a level-based video game, you die several times but you keep getting closer to the end, do you think you deserve to move on to the next level? No.
Yeah, I am not sure if I feel great about getting a 9 rewards and doing so well that I would get a level that I’m not really ready for.
yeah, but you’d have an 11 key and you could runt hat and have better rewards. besides the key level u failed still goes towards your vault
there has to be some repercussion to failure
Yeah, but why?
… Especially factors that isn’t really your fault?
Because warfronts, remember the consequences to a no-failure system?
you don’t time it then why should you have the same key level? It means you are not ready for that difficulty
No, it means you could not be ready.
Just as it could also mean that someone’s power or Internet went out, someone had to drop a Taco Bell at the wrong time, someone’s kid puked, etc.
This whole “not timing means you can’t do that difficulty” argument assumes there can only ever be one reason for not timing, which is complete bunk.
Why does there need to be a repurcussion if at a certain level, there aren’t any actual rewards? From 11-15 you’re not getting anything other than score.
But sure, lets talk about the downsides:
- Wasted time
- Repair bills
- Stress
- Wasted consumables
I don’t walk out of a M+ without spending at least 600g on flask/food/oil + health potions, and another 400-1200g on repairs depending on how it went.
You can always downgrade your key at the NPC. Having it automatically go down means I waste even more time doing +11’s to get back to a +12 to try that.
Everything takes up time, video games always take up time. People have to redo levels in games, that takes up time. This conversation is equivalent to that.
Okay, so instead of the game downgrading a key, why not redo the level that I’m already in?
Let’s say you’re playing a level-based video game, you die several times but you keep getting closer to the end, do you think you deserve to move on to the next level? No.
yeah, but you’d have an 11 key and you could runt hat and have better rewards.
These two are contradicting examples. If I barely time a 10. Timed a 9. Of course I’m not ready for 11!
besides the key level u failed still goes towards your vault
At least that’s a consolation prize. I just prefer that if I am not ready for a key, let ME downgrade it. Not the game.
Because warfronts, remember the consequences to a no-failure system?
Isn’t Warfronts a scenario where everyone just zug zug everything? I don’t know. I haven’t done Warfronts because it was dull.
You mean like the time wasted?
Let’s say you’re playing a level-based video game, you die several times but you keep getting closer to the end, do you think you deserve to move on to the next level? No.
Sure, thats a great argument, but thats not whats happening. You fail a level, and you have to go back and do the previous level.
Imagine playing Mario, you beat level 1-2. You die, so now you have to do 1-1 over again? Even though you’ve already done it?
Make it make sense.
But you’re also forgetting that it could also mean
low dps, inexperienced people, etc.
These two are contradicting examples. If I barely time a 10. Timed a 9. Of course I’m not ready for 11!
it’s not contradictory if that’s how the game works.
At the 1st error, bad pull or w/e key will get reset if there is no consequence for doing so.
That doesn’t sound productive. At all.
it doesn’t matter, it would 100% be commonplace
But you’re also forgetting that it could also mean
low dps, inexperienced people, etc
No I’m not, and if that’s what you took away from the post then you should reread it.
My point was very clear. There isn’t a singular reason that will always cause a key to not be timed, so saying “you weren’t ready for the difficulty” as if that can only ever be the reason is very disingenuous.
Yeah, not sure about that.
it doesn’t matter, it would 100% be commonplace
Then don’t do it in your own keys. Problem solved. Quit worrying about what other people want to do with their keys.
/eyeroll
it’s about good game design. there has to be a balance. we’ve been playing blizz’s game for 20 years - you know this.
if keys don’t downrank, that balance is going to come at the expense of something else. they monkey paw everything.
to be clear - keys not downgrading would benefit me, 100%. I just think that would make m+ too lucritive. however you spell that.
