Welp, I got flying and made 20k gold in the process. I upgraded the essentia thingy in the pocopoc console all the way, and even when it wasn’t all the way upgraded I was lucky enough to finally get some. Its only worth 10-12k on my server (used to be around 50k), but if I get luckier with drops and such this might just be the solution. I’m also herb farming as I go and selling any crafting reagents I pick up that seem to be hot items on the ah.
I guess I have just been lucky in ZM but I’ve made a couple hundred k gold this patch off just the legendary crafting mat running around doing patterns weekly.
Also still riding out the ludicrous amount of gold made by people buying crafted blues at the start of the expac for 20-50k.
If you do the daily callings, you’ll get between 1500-2000 gold for each. On top of that, each time you gather 10k rep for each faction (assuming you’re exalted) you can get an additional 3k from the boxes.
Doesn’t seem like a lot, but it really adds up if you have alts. I’ve made a ton of gold farming them on 5 toons.

For most servers you will not be able to buy a 291 legendary unless you spend a significant amount of time doing your professions.
Our guild is currently selling boosts and farming mythic BoE’s to make gold because none of us want to participate in the in-game crafting system.
The fastest way is to farm BoE’s in heroic/mythic raid or sell boosts. Otherwise all the other legitimate methods involve a huge investment of your play time.
I used to think this until I accidentally made over 80k in a couple weeks just by world questing and going through a few older raids. Gold can be made so easily if one actually focuses on it…

Yep, if you REALLY wanted to make money you easily can.
You just have to do a bunch of quests/gathering and callings

I have a friend who refuses to pick up and sell junk. I pick up all mine and at the end of the day I probably make 9-10k on just selling junk

Yeah, 10k a day is pretty good from just picking up junk.
With repair, flasks, armor kits, oils and other consumes I would probably have about 5k left from that amount.
It would probably take me 20 days to get 100k from selling junk.
The people that are really struggling with gold are just lazy (myself included), I don’t even want to spend a single minute herbing when i log on.
I’m poor and thats 100% my fault lol.

I need to make a budget or something.
I currently have 2 alts at the level that they can do callings. I get 2k-3k per calling. I don’t care about them, I do dumb casual stuff (heroics/lfr) on my priest, I don’t intend to give them legendaries or consumes. They need 200g max at any one time.
3k x 3 = 9k. I believe there are only 3 a week, so thats 27k a week. If I budget like 3-4k for consumes, which is stingy but for ~math~'s sake, quaranteed 22k a week profit. I am also starting to farm prog essentia everyday since I just got flying. So I run my mythic a day, raid on fri-sat nights, callings and farming the rest of the time. IDK how many prog essences I can expect to get. 10k each. At this rate it will take maybe 3 weeks. Not awful, still behind the curve but nothing new for yours truly.
I am pretty much in the same boat. I do very casual mythic (low keys) and Normal raid. (We haven’t started yet, as people are still poking along.) My “main” is a Prot/Ret Pally with Herb/Mine. I have a druid at level 60, that is Night Fae at iLevel ~214 or so. The druid is Alchemy/Herb.
I did Threads of Fate with the druid, learned the profs and that was about it.
I herb Maldraxis and Ardenweald with the druid. Revendreth and Bastion with the Pally. Both have gloves with the SL gathering enchant.
All herbs go to the druid. Ore goes to the AH. I sell flasks, and some potions and ship what I need back to the Pally. I sell the extra Death Blossom on the AH too. I leveled Alchemy awhile back, with herbs I picked up while leveling the Pally.
It took a couple of weeks to kind of get going. I only got serious about this with patch 9.2. Before that I just kind of dabbled along. Buying about half my consumables and crafting the rest. Now I know the routes and can pop in and get what I need pretty quickly. So I’m not buying any consumables or mats now.
I do callings on the Pally, because Normal/Heroic queues are fast as Protection.
With that I can handle the consumables I need on the Pally, with some extra.
I started this when the patch dropped and have ~225k gold on the druid and ~150k on the Pally. I would have more, but spent ~100k on battle pets for give away team prizes, last weekend, for a social event run on the server where both chars are located. I also spent ~40k buying the wrong legendary base item for the Pally on Saturday… 
I do AH in the morning before work, and again the the evening at some point. Flying around to pick flowers does take some time, but I listen to surf music on youtube so it isn’t bad.

How long til the next expansion is released? A year?
If it’s about a year, then you may want to consider either making your own legendary or forgoing that altogether and saving your gold.
Reason I say this is because legendaries become obsolete, useless once a new expac comes out so unless you’re really competitive, I don’t think there’s really a good reason to get the best of the best.
And if you saved your gold, you’d have a lot of it for when the next expac comes out and you can continue to save it up because eventually they’re going to do another kind of special mount or something that everyone will want because it’s unique, like the brutosaur was, and most won’t have the gold and if you were able to buy it, save it for a bit and then sell it at AH, you could make a killing and get the primo gear you want for future expacs.

First off, I feel ya. Making gold is unpleasant in this game at times. I don’t really like endless grinding, so I generally just have enough to keep myself afloat. I agree that the Legendary items are stupidly expensive. I mean, I GET it as they take a lot to level up, but still arg.
I have to ask though, just for my own curiousity, why would anyone buy a more expensive Elixir of Tongues from the market when they could just buy them from Dalaran? 0_o

We actually had a sizeable horde raid come in and kill every npc in the trade district. Fun times.
