glyphs get completely revamped in cata. They ain’t doing all that work for 3 to 5 more months of wotlk.
Do you prefer Glyph of Lightning Bolt in WOTLK ot Cata?
30 specs in the game, 25 raid spots. what is your suggestion
To the top!
Couldn’t have said it better myself, hopefully this gets more attention and they can find a solution for this.
I endorse this initiative.
Unfortunately, the solution for this is going to end up being Cata Classic and then into MoP Classic (where Ele was in the best spot it has ever been IMO). I don’t think they’re going to tweak Elemental for the last real phase of Wrath to fix an issue that is being caused by a set bonus that was around back then - and won’t be in for all that long, figuratively speaking.
We’ll definitely never get any kind of fix if we remain quiet.
In Cataclysm, the T10 bonus is Feedback. Feedback does the same exact thing as the T10 bonus, but reduces the CD of EM by an additional second. Though EM in Cata did provide actual damage along with 20% haste, it still runs into the same issue at some point in the distant future—the GCD makes the additional haste provided by EM to be virtually useless. Obviously, though, either way the haste becomes irrelevant standing next to 15% extra damage.
Right now, a change to the glyph would be incredible; but, it wouldn’t really change our relative position in the rankings. It would make things far more enjoyable. I think reducing the GCD cap during EM and allowing ghostwolf to be cast inside would move the needle! To be honest, though, regardless of whether ghostwolf would make some dramatic impact during encounters, it’d simply be better for our damned spec considering our AOE is reliant on being within 8 yards of enemies; having to run an additional 4 seconds during every trash pack is tedious compared to a warlock who gets to start blasting from 30 yards away. At least, for the 1.5 hours of walking around smashing mobs, we could actually be able to utilize our AOE abilities and not be so punished if we ever run into the misfortune of needing to drink.
The issue here is that there really isn’t much that can be fixed. What is happening is that we’re getting so much haste that we are getting over the 100% haste effectiveness hard cap. At that point, the GCD is already 0.75 seconds. You can still benefit, but if you’re casting spells every three quarters of a second, you should be pumping HARD. Changing the GCD won’t fix the issue (even if it makes it “feel better”). What we need is LESS overall haste and more spell coefficient on the damage from EM. Cata achieves both of these, I believe (don’t completely recall, didn’t really raid much during that time).
As for the rest of your concerns, Cata does come in and resolve them. At least two of your requests should be taken care of with Cata Classic - as I’m pretty sure that Blizz will be using the version 4.3.4 patch as the baseline for it, like they used 3.3.5 for the baseline for Wrath.
- Ghost Wolf is usable indoors - I remember specifically talenting into Improved Ghost Wolf to get the insta-cast while Elemental - Insta-cast GW goes baseline in MoP. That IMMENSELY improves our mobility.
- Fire Nova changes from being the 8-yard totem-based junk it is now. It becomes an AOE that emanates from your Flame Shocked enemies (so multi-dotting becomes massively good) - doesn’t get wrecked until WoD. Plus, it’s CD is reduced so it’s even better.
So, I don’t think they will make any changes to Wrath at this point. There’s just too little to “fix”. Not a bad idea, but I wouldn’t get my hopes up.
We hit the GCD cap at 1 second for LB. Every bit of haste past that is completely wasted. Doesn’t matter if our cast time for LB is .15 seconds; we won’t be able to cast another lightning bolt for .85 seconds.
Whoops, I forgot that they hotfixed the GCD to cap at 1 second rather than at 0.75 seconds because of TBC stuff and then never reverted it.
That being said, you shouldn’t be looking at your cast windows during Bloodlust/Heroism. You should be looking at your cast windows for the rest of the fight. Will adjusting the GCD for 15 seconds of a fight at a time make that much of a difference? You only get a few more casts of LB during the BL/Hero + EM window, assuming that you are GCD capped with just BL/Hero and getting a new cap for EM. I calculated 5 more casts with the GCD being returned to 0.75 seconds. You wouldn’t get the reduced GCD (or it wouldn’t matter if you did) for any other EM buff for the rest of any fight because you’d never get it back down to below a 1 second cast.
And this scenario was EXACTLY the reason why they hotfixed it back to 1 second. It might feel bad now, but it would feel worse if you still had to wait for server cycles to get your sub-1 second casts off - losing casts in the process.
On a side note, if any shaman is hitting that GCD scenario, they should be holding Elemental Mastery for outside the BL/Hero window since the extra haste is lost. I think we’re on agreement on that.
Am I to understand that your argument for having a horrible offensive cooldown that punishes the player for using it when everyone is supposed to do their highest DPS is based on an ancient server-related relic? If that is the case, then, perhaps, look at some of the other options.
We wouldn’t get it for (most) Lighting Bolts during later EMs. We would still get it for Flame Shocks, Lava Bursts, Chain Lightnings, and other instant casts during those later EMs. We’d also get it if one of those later EMs aligned with a Potion of Speed and Hyperspeed Accelerators. The DPS estimates in the OP were designed with this in mind.
The OP elaborates on why this is terrible.
My man, the t10 2set bonus causes our EM to reset much faster. Using EM during Lust is still a dps increase because it still causes flameshock to do its damage faster (=more dps.) And by the time hero is over, EM is almost off cooldown again.
The standard of making changes for the sake of both QoL and balance has been set with the adjustments to Unholy DKs, Ret Paladins, Feral Druids, Hunters. The lowest dps specs can and should be adjusted slightly. That is the only route that is consistent with the philosophy used throughout WoTLK classic.
It’d be great to hear any kind of response from any official on this matter. Saying “they’re busy” as an excuse will not be sufficient. They may have other priorities right now, but there’s still an additional “phase” of content in Ruby Sanctum to be released. On top of that, there’s still 6+ months left within this expansion before we move on to Cataclysm. Regardless of their workload, they should feel a sense of obligation to the people that continue to pay money every month for this service.
I understand that they’ve got busy times ahead with the release of SoD; however, it being a packed schedule shouldn’t mean that we’re left without support until it is simply a matter of convenience.
Just reduce the cooldown on fire ele, pls and thx
my guild made me go resto again, i hope we get buffed soon
And make it invincible!
Why would I want my Fire Elemental to be Invincible? I quite like being able to see them thank you very much!
Jokes aside, it feels pretty crummy that our Elemental Mastery tier bonus will get functionally worse and worse over time. I would love to see some sort of change that helps it continue to be a worthwhile cooldown as players get more geared.
