im personally torn on pvp gear. on one hand, it does feel nice to finally get full conquest gear and wreck undergeared people in bgs. but on the other, every season i find myself having to grind 2s with some very sketchy team mates to get my conquest set so i can then queue solo shuffle and complete my seasonal pvp goals. i almost always wind up around 1600 in 2s doing this and wind up having to abandon that so i can get 1800 to 2100 in solo shuffle depending on whether i want that seasons rewards.
they did try templates in legion, and it honestly felt wrong. i dont know what the answer is.
Thatās the problem though. If itās ever relevant to the other side, they are going to feel compelled to do it. Gamers in this game are degenerate.
Wow has tried this many many times and you just canāt avoid it man. It fails everytime. I assure you, your idea isnāt novel.
The best they should and could do is just make it less useless on the other side. Like make all PvE gear scale to midway between honor and conquest or something.
Was just in a bg where the top dps was a prot paly wearing mostly his pve tier set. Granted the rest of us probably sucked but i just dont get how all this is supposed to work.
I really miss when the game was this way, more people joined pvp compared to now
Honestly? Iād be down with this, if only because it might breathe some life into the gameās PvP scene again. Right now, itās all the same faces. The pool of players engaging in PvP has fallen off so hard that, if you play for a bit, youāll eventually know pretty much everybody.

Something something integrity in pvp compromised by PvE gear being competitive or whatever. Meanwhile, they still havenāt disabled addons in battlegrounds or arenas.
I think integrity went out the window when everybody started using a bunch of scripts to automate half of their class in PvP.

I remember when a naxx geared rogue would solo the entire wsg team. Good times.
That was what I was referring to. The videos of people using obvious bots for kicks/ring of peace are wild. Even just having something giving you auditory cues for things is pretty dubious in a pvp setting.
For content thatās meant to be as fair as possible, itās pretty stupid that blizzard hasnāt at least locked down add-ons while in queued pvp.
It has been been tried before. I think if this was real life, I go to a staging area, and have to change my armour, and why?
Im I choosing between a business suit and some paint ball camo?
They donāt need to do anything about addons. Doing so would break all kinds of indicators that are needed just to play your own class. If I have to use default UI partyframes with no filter on meaningless debuffs thatās a solid guarantee Iāll never touch PVP again.
What needs to get nuked is combat log and buff displays for all enemies. I shouldnāt have any way of knowing when someone has popped offensive or defensive cds besides maybe the visual on their character. I donāt even know if it makes sense to show spell names / time on the castbar, just color it by what itāll lock out if interrupted.
There is a reason why we have PvP gear vendors again, and PvP tinkets having a set bonus, and PvP gear having a boosted ilvl when in PvP.
Because we used to have gearing like that and it led to PvE players doing PvP for gearing and vice versa. Everyone hated it.
PvE players will sometimes still do some PvP at the start of the season because conquest gear is Champion track.

But why or how is tier set pve gear still outperforming scaled pvp gear in bgs? I just wonder because Iām doing all this conquest grinding, and top dps was a guy in pve tank gear, a wide margin over everyone else. If itās really just down to the rest of us in that bg being bad, Iāll accept that.
Can a top geared pve player just walk into pvp and own it? Or is the idea that the rest of us scale up to meet his level. Sorry for being noob.
You can use the Catalyst to convert your conquest gear to into Tier gear. It will still have the PvP ilvl of 639 too.
Not really you would still need to grab the PvP trinkets for its set bonus. Your PvE gear would need to be 626 ilvl minimum to be comparable to Honor gear. Furthermore if you arenāt stacking Versatility you will be destroyed.

So the prot pally has the tier set bonuses while in battlegrounds, but it scales to 639 for pvp? If thats the case im going to try it out with the catalyst because why not. Useful thank u.
I finally got the trinks but tbh I am not performing well in bgs on my mage right now in my pvp set. I still die too much for one.
Also i put the exploding cherry bomb embellishment on my crafted pvp shoulders and it feels worthless. Just disappointed i finally got gearedā¦and well, nothing changed. Still working it out.
Yup and Arenaās. Do note however that there are PvP modifiers which may reduce the effect/damage of it. For example the set bonus may be 10% damage to X but in PvP it will be (and show on the tooltip) 5%.
Mage is squishy so it can be a learning issue on how to play and how to use defensives and what you should do etc. However it can be a gear issue (except your 4 tier pieces where you canāt control the stats and PvP trinkets) you want all of your gear to have Versatility on it as that damage reduction is vital for PvP. Furthermore crit is often a stat you avoid in PvP because crit damage is reduced.
I generally avoid making crafted PvP gear in the tier piece slots (Head, Shoulders, Chest, Hands, Legs). PvP gems are where you have the best PvP bonus. You as a caster will want to use the Cognitive Bloodstone which if someone uses and interrupt on you and you werenāt casting (or not interruptible) you gain precognition and are immune to interrupts for a short period.

Ok thank you for all the info i will try it out. I also have a prot pally Iām using for pvp but not getting numbers like this guy was.
I found him on wow search right after and took a screenshot, donāt think i can upload but legs were Entombed Syraphās Greaves item lvl 623 out of pvp combat, enhanced with strength kit. He had the proper pvp weaps and trinks though, and was killing it.
To get back to opās point itās an overwhelming and confusing gearing system for a noob. But i will figure it out.
Prot Paladins (and all tanks) outside of CTF BGās and Epic BGās donāt see much play.
Also you will want to use enchants on your PvP gear.
Also this is what you use for PvP sockets:
It boils down to, PvP gear is the best gear for PvP because PvP ilvl is 639 which is equivalent to 6/6 Myth Gear PvE ilvl.
Between Legion and Shadowlands when we didnāt have PvP ilvl modifier for the best PvP gear you had to do Mythic Raiding because ilvl is king.
It was far more demoralizing and a turn off because if you wanted to have any meaningful success you had to do mythic raiding.
Now each season you just grind honor for the honor gear which is 626 ilvl (not hard to do) as your base PvP set.

Ok thank you, looks like I squanderd a lot of conquest reagents on the crafted shoulders for three alts (prot pally, mage, and mm hunter) but will put what I can in the catalyst. Itās a learning season and running AV a lot and comp stomp helped out a lot with points and recipes.
Thanks again for the replies. ā¦thumbs upā¦

Have fun! And remember that Honor can be transferred to other characters (20% tax) and you can use PvP flasks for more honor.
When you have at min a full honor set and feel comfortable with your class/spec try out Battleground Blitz (Solo Queue Rated BGās). Donāt be afraid to fail.
