Make flying great again

It does not make sense to most, if not all, players, but it obviously makes some kind of sense to Blizzard. That is the issue I see, we are trying to judge Blizzard on our own views when they might have views that meet their goals but are failing on meeting someplace where aspects of both their views and ours are evident.

A blue response on the issue would be great, but unfortunately they aren’t real good at communicating either…

Let us imagine the hypothetical that they make these switch Styles button instant cast without dismounting you.

What it would do is that swapping to steady flight will cause you to lose all of your momentum, kind of like Aerial halt without the Vigor recharge or a time limit, so by default you would be macaroing the ability to Aerial halt to gain the benefits while being slightly less jarring. From there you have your free range of Mobility at the cost of speed but once you want to go back to the fast flight, you would start in the air with no momentum to just start slowly falling down until you turn it into a dive for Speed or use Vigor which you may not have yet.

So, mechanically it would be extra jank, and using steady flight as an elevator to get height for dragonriding is a bandaid for making mistakes while dragonriding and not really that great.

Of all of this, I do have one piece of advice: Don’t use Whirling Surge while gathering, it is good for a quick boost at the start of a long flight or when that speed is going to be maintained by burning all of your vigor but it is a major waste of vigor if you are going to be making stops.

If they were looking for the most clumsy way to implement flight, they nailed it.

Hitting Aerial Halt would slow you down like it does now until you go into a hover (recharge still there). You wouldn’t just slam on the brakes coming to an immediate halt and you wouldn’t slowly fall to the ground. And if you are stopping it is for a reason. You could simply nose dive into the ground, do your business, and take back off (using up energy to get going again) .

You’d only hit Aerial halt in this situation of you are going to farm herbs, questing, or something similar. Plus, I don’t see why you couldn’t do a slow recharge while flying around in the slower flying mode.

But, you know, if you are going to the ground to hop around how long is your flight balls gonna last anyway.

Maybe we should just remove flying…

“Maybe we should just remove flying…”

Yeah. This wouldn’t kill the game at all. /s

I use a 50 cal for squirrel hunting.

How would that help? The problem is not finding cliffs, the problem is that your proposed changes would alter my skyriding mount to a old flying mount the second I hit the ground, so when I ran off the cliff I would switch into old flying instead of the skyriding dive I wanted.

Just make the toggle instant. That sounds much better. Then people can just choose the flight style they want and not have to worry about it switching or not switching when they may not want it to.

How but just reduce the cast time to INSTANT and be done with it. I’m sure there’s a Flight_Mode_Toggle in the code that has to branch to old-style flying or skyriding at the time that you mount up, so changing modes without mounting or while already mounted is probably too big an ask for too small a problem. “Everybody” is not frustrated, it’s likely a small slice that can’t play with a 5-sec cast time, but an instant-cast would surely solve that small slice’s perceived problem with much less effort than what you propose.

The reason for the 5-sec cast has been speculated to be an advantage in PvP to Druids & Evokers… If they’re unwilling to put an instant cast-time in with a 5-sec cooldown, then they should fix the two classes that would have an advantage while in a BG or Arena or open-world and flagged for PvP.

People really like to find reasons to complain about these days.

Make “—” great again is literally the worst quote in history!

Nothing good happens after people use it!

Let’s use “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” instead!

That’s why I champion at its removal right now. Call me a fool all you like, in fact I love it, because I know what the real meaning of fool is.

Exactly. Thank you. This is why, even though I agree with OP, I just couldn’t get myself to heart it lol.

There is zero effort in what I propose. They could still have their five second cast. I don’t care.

Most of my life I have worked as a Network/Systems admin. I did it for Dell research, a mid sized cable company, a large government institution, Military contractor, etc. What I’ve learned over the years is making things intuitive. What that means is design software interfaces, network infrastructure, etc so that you really don’t have to train people much at all. You make things intuitive.

Whenever I was designing a large software rollout or update I’d find the slowest apple in the tree and have them test implementation. I’d have them describe what it felt like and look to see what confused them. I maintained all of the network infrastructure, the virtual servers and hardware, and many of the applications working with developers.

I did everything I could to make everything smooth for our customers and the companies. I always did my patches after midnight on Saturday so if things went wrong (stuff happens) I had the night to either fix it or roll the changes back causing minimal impact.

I think the changes I suggest would be quickly accepted and appreciated by the vast majority of people. Can’t make everybody happy though.

Your desire can be met with just removing pathfinder from being required for flight. This is why I call ones like you fools because you want to go to an unneeded extreme when what you want is accomplished by something else.

Fool - One who subverts convention or orthodoxy or varies from social conformity in order to reveal spiritual or moral truth.

Thank you for the high honor. ./blows a kiss

I think about people a lot. I do mean a lot. Everybody has their truths, their reality. Is that based on objective thinking or subjective thinking. Are the responses kneejerk without thought.

So I thought about the title a bit. I don’t do things casually. I decided to kick the box in the corner of the garage and see what ran out.

the only truth you have revealed is you are playing the fool, or dupe, because you are wanting somethign removed totally when your desire is met by remvoing it just from what it is currently connected to.

So in this casem teh meaning of fool that applies, from the dictionary, is: a silly or stupid person, a person that lacks judgement or sense.

What about keeping the 4 OG dragonriding mounts as skyriding mounts when you’re in steady flight option?
