Blizz don’t do this to flying you’ll just make everybody frustrated for no good reason. Let people have fun. You’ll have more people want to stay.
I’d like to suggest the following to fix it. Get rid of the spell “switch flight style” and make it a seamless transition as per below.
If you are on the ground or land you go into “Steady” flight.
If you use any “Skyriding” ability in steady flight you go into “Skyriding”.
If you are on the ground and use “Skyward Ascent” you go into skyriding.
If you are flying in “skyriding” mode and hit “Aerial Halt” you slow to a hover and enter “steady” flight.
As an example let’s say I’m farming herbs in a thick forested area. I mount and press and hold my jump button and I helicopter out of the trees. Then I hit “Surge Forward” or “Whirling Surge” and speed over to my next area where I dive into the trees and hit “Aerial Halt” and then begin to flit around gatering my herbs. Every time I mount up to go to the next node I’m in steady flight and I can navigate thick foliage easily. When I finish I point myself up and hit “Whirling Surge” and race to my new area. Same for questing.
If somebody absolute hates “skyriding” they can easily stay in steady flight. If they are feeling froggy and want to try it here and there it would be easy to come out by hitting “Aerial Halt”.
My two cents.
Edit to include my macros for my index finger, middle finger, and middle finger down buttons. These buttons become “Skyriding” buttons when I’m flying and they are “Surge Forward”, “Whirling Surge”, and “Aerial Halt” Respectively.
Why does it need to be seamless? Raids would be a lot more seamless if bosses had 1 HP and did negative damage too, but that wouldn’t make for a good game.
No, I don’t think this would be seamless, honestly. This would add more seams. I don’t want to have to have skyriding abilities on my non-skyriding action bars to transition into it, and I like being able to just double-jump launch into things, or to slow, turn, and continue onwards. An instant toggle I am not against, but having the toggle in several spots tied to normal actions like landing, or hitting the ability to slow down, is not the way to do it imo.
I agree. Making the toggle instant would be a great idea, but that "seamless* switching just seems more annoying than anything else. Specially for the people who prefer to stay in one flight style or another. I do not really want my skyriding mount to become a normal mount just because I touched the ground, for example. That would straight up screw parts of skyriding up.
If you are “on the ground” then you’ve stopped. “Skyward Ascent” puts you back in the air. Or, you could double jump. That’s how I take off in skyriding mode now.
Yeh, you have stopped, but a lot of how I start skyriding is not by using Ascent, it is by running off a cliff on the mount I am on and going into a dive. Which, if the mount was forced into old flyng when I landed, I would not be able to do any longer.
Edit: I mean an actual dive, not just slow flying off the cliff in a downward motion. I mean wings tucked, gaining speed skyriding dive.
I also like your suggestion to make available a THIRD type of flying that people can choose to use, which integrates components of both Steady Flight and dragonriding (not sure. what its called now). That option would appeal to some players but perhaps not all, and for that reason I think it should be a third kind of flying as it would definitely take practice and re-learning how to fly the new way.
