I like Maiev. She’s fun to watch. But she’s a lot more fun when she has a more moderate character to play off of, like Shandris. Or Jarod.

Illidan is in no sense a moderate leader. xD They’d just be competing to out-crazy each other.
Well I interpreted the burning of the tree as genocide-level event. Leaving only a rag-tag force in Darkshore. A few hundred NE’s left in the world.
So, a race on the verge of extinction. A race that needs a leader that won’t take sht. She’ll make the hard choices. And if people die? Well, let’s not kid around, people will die.
What would you do to preserve your family if it were seriously threatened?
But think of the stories! It wouldn’t be dull.
Getting one’s people killed as a result of an extinction level event is probably not the wisest response as it will most likely eliminate some of the most desirable aspects of the gene pool.
A retreat that preserves most of the population is probably wiser and gives one the freedom to plan and execute a guerrilla campaign, something that plays to the night elves strengths rather than large scale battles that even the victors usually suffer heavy casualties.
I would like this, actually. Maiev is crazy but maybe she’s just what the night elves need.
Maiev committed murders in cold blood, still ignored and unpunished. Just like Jaina’s crimes.

Malfurion is the absolute Chad of WoW and without him, Azeroth would bave been destroyed many many times over the last 10k years. he should be the NE leader forever and always
Not sure she’s a very good leader. She tried to murder Malfurion purely because he decided it was time to give The Highborne a second chance.
At the time the world was facing a literal apocalypse and Night Elves especially couldn’t be too picky about their choice of friends.

Oh definitely not. In the story, the Nelfs poured through the portals opened to them in Stormwind, filling the streets in every district and pouring out into Elwynn all the way to Goldshire.
They aren’t.
She’s not leader material at all. Not with everything she’s been through and how bat crazy she is. That woman is not stable.
