Blood elves got green eyes from the demon crystals they used to deal their mana addiction. They are actually an example of the “drowning themselves” and being in places saturated with fel magic. And even then, unlike the orcs because apparently their eyes just glow based on whatever magic they tap into, it’ll go away in time.
at best we can say “merely being around warlocks casting spells gradually turns you green; chugging pit lord blood turns you green immediately (and a double dose turns you red and spiky), and whatever Killrog drank in WoD turns you grey and spiky.”
they actually do mutate further if they drink too deeply of fel energy, but we’re not sure of if those changes are permanent.
They just don’t give a s— about the world they are supposed to be the caretakers of. They want to damage it irreparably and make sure it’s so destroyed that no one can repair it. That’s all this is. Like locusts. Nothing more. Funny how the people who replaced the old guard are a thousand times worse, eh?
There’s a term in Legal Doctrine that sums it up. Res ipsa loquitur.
It means “The thing speaks for itself”. Some things are so egregious. So obvious and so intentional that you cannot chalk it up to someone not knowing before they stated a matter. No in this case it was known, but the individuals chose to do it anyways. Why? Because they wanted to cause harm, and in this case the harm is to the franchise.
Should we be surprised given the NPC that exists in Maldraxxus and how it’s a homage to someone who stated on Twitter (someone else screen shotted it before she could delete it) and I quote… “I just love s—ing on the digital lives of these pathetic chuds. It fills me with diabolic glee.”
If that is what Blizzard Employees who write think of their players, it speaks volumes. Likewise you have other employees like one who is homaged in the Maw Tower, who blamed the players for being responsible for the issues of their own employees.
So again we see Blizzard apparently does not give two craps about this game. I always assumed and thought Chris Metzen however did. But if these changes go live, and he offers no push back to the lore that he created… Then I have to assume he likewise does not care about Warcraft or the world he created. If that is the case, neither will I.
But I will remember those people who destroyed said world. For just as they held contempt for me, and all of the players of this game who loved the lore of the game; so too will I hold contempt for them.
it’s really interesting you bring up Metzen…he’s one of the original creators of the Warcraft Orc…and actually many of the races on Azeroth.
def did not expect this direction when they announced his addition to their ranks, but i do trust him with anything warcraft… and i’m happy he’s there tbh.
I think we all do, but we’d respect it more if he actually said “No” to the body-typers and reminded those people that the company DOES actually give a damn about the lore, and that there are certain things that they do have to adhere to, even if the employees privately seethe and plot false accusations against him for it; as is their speed.
You know, a sense that there is some ethicality and interest in WoW and that it’s not just a hand over fist rake of as much money they can get from character service sales before the game servers shut down and the diversity hires that ruined the game get reassigned.
I mean for golly’s sake he’s supposed to be doing table-top and gaming in that vein, so my inner DM is looking at this and going. “…Ok… How does this… actually? In any remote reality… function?”
…Because at the end of the day, Tabletop is all about telling your players no on certain matters. How could I support a product that gives the players everything they ask for? Where’s the adventure in that?
one of the things blizzard should go back to is quality if possible…The character & race development in the game is at its weakest point imo.
I’d appreciate if they explored these races, their leaders, and history a bit more. Especially if you want to add a unique flavor or class to them.
Everyone knows Tyrande/Night Elves, Thrall/Orcs, because that lore was developed over years…we really got to know and understand them.
if they’re just throwing warlock stuff into a patch to like pad the content or something i would rather they took their time when it comes to these things…that’s actually what i thought Mr. Danuser implied during his recent interview?
Anyways, these allied races feel so random atm…like i said - they’re just different colored orcs atm…now whatever culture they DID have is being changed randomly, so we’ll never get to understand them or their development. nothing about these orcs will matter until the effort is put in.
Not even sure it’s the narrative team’s fault - it could be pressure from above that’s making them rush these things idk.
I think that’s really the core of the problem. Quality.
Like here’s how I’d approach the problem and find a solution for a good example. If they gave alternative versions of the demons that were more like Elemental spirits, and a recolored version of say Chaos Bolt and Drain Life that were more blood colored?
Well then I would be the first to defend a Mag’har Warlock because I could say “Ok! This makes sense, because while the class is playable. It’s the playstyle that is playable. However, the Mag’har you see are not Gul’dan Legion / Fel throwers. They are more like Bleeding Hollow Witches. Because such an fel-using entity would have green skin if an Orc”.
The problem is that Blizzard rarely focuses on that sort of quality and because of it, the lore has been given more holes than a wedge of Baby Swiss. This is in turn making the franchise sink faster than the S.S. Titanic.
Likewise with Lightforged Draenei Warlocks? Alright. Make their demons reformed much like that Lightforged Nathrezim. Make their spells have a Light themed aesthetic to it. So Chaos Bolt for them would instead be a giant golden “Bolt of Order”. Same play style as the Warlock, but the Lightforged Army and it’s story is not being cheapened by having Fel-users in it.
There’s a right way to approach such things, and a wrong way. Blizzard’s unfortunate problem is they always do it the cheapest way they can, and the entire franchise has suffered as a result until even the most open minded can say it’s nothing more than a Character Service Sales grab.
I just find it hard to believe professionals wouldn’t be able to come up with such solutions.
That’s not a bad attempt, but wouldn’t the same of held true for Night Elves or other races? We need to take into consideration the cultures in question and as it stands the cultures are being sacrificed for the sake of game-play.
Is Fel-Immunity even possible while being able to use it? The only known case is an Ogre who became completely immune to magic if I remember the story from WoD and Highmaul.
I disagree, as far as i know orcs turned green because they drank demon blood. Anyone can be a warlock but not drink the blood. Why not allow players to have the option to play the race and class they want.
