Mage Tower Returning In 9.1.5 (Maybe): The Hype Is Real!

Have you heard about the wall of no? I’m not sure, if you have, but… there was a wall of no way back when. I think it was on the original forums which Blizzard deleted.

SUMMARY:

  1. Blizzard does not believe there are enough people interested in utilizing this idea long term to justify the costs necessary to bring it about.
  2. Blizzard feels this idea is counter to the nature of MMO’s; non-progression equates to stagnation and eventual boredom.
  3. Blizzard does not possess the old code. No, they did not save it as a “backup” - they might have for the launch of Cataclysm, but that was over four years and two expansions ago. Even if it were “recoverable” by other means (i.e., see “private” servers” below) it would still require lengthy and expensive rewrite, a task Blizzard denies interest in.
  4. They have no plans or desire to recreate the original version(s). They refer to the notion as “a logistical nightmare,”… and in keeping with #1 above the time, money and resources required are prohibitive and unjustified.

TL;DR: “Too much cost, too little interest and it’s not what the game is about… we’re not doing it.”

Proponents of “Classic” (or any other variant thereof) servers rarely put thought into the idea. This would be similar to requests for the film industry to make silent films again, or the auto industry to mass-produce Model-T cars again. Avid collectors, people who look fondly back on those days, or new folks curious about the past might take a look at them, but that wouldn’t be a high number of people in the first place - never mind the few of those who would actually pay for the experience. There’s not enough market for those, so those companies are not doing it; neither is Blizzard. That doesn’t mean there isn’t a market - just that it’s nowhere near large enough to make it worthwhile.

On these forums, and the old ones, prior to Classic WoW, there were hundreds upon hundreds, of threads that requested Classic servers. There was one every week or so. So, many threads were created, the forum made the wall of no. It was everything that Blizzard had said about Classic servers and why they won’t do that.

Blizzard “retired” vanilla. It was done. They said it should stay retired. Guess what? They brought it back and guess what happened after?

They made, a BOAT LOAD, of money.

I agree with recolors, but anytime people tell me Blizzard should abide by their principles and their choices? Blizzard will gladly change their mind if they can make money.

“Nooo! You can’t earn what I have! it’s MIINE!”

Another player that was active all through legion and didn’t get the achievement when it was open screaming to be catered to.

Now the only question i have is are we gonna be able to unlock the weapon customizations or is it only the new transmogs that are coming out?

hopefully the weapon customizations / druid forms

I believe it is recolours of T20 - that’s the speculation.

doing all 3 different spec challenges for a single recolor doesn’t make a lick of sense…

See i was lucky enough to get the weapons for this toon, my priest, pally and warlock. the rest of my toons were not geared enough to get their weapons and i really wanted the druid stuff. If the weapons come back then cool. ill finish up my alts. if they dont then oh well.

It’s I think a monk set, a rogue set, a priest set etc.

Blizz would be reviving basically just the challenge mode content, not the old rewards

Considering that these scenarios are crucial to the Broken Shore storyline, it’s really good that they’re doing this.

I got all 3 on my mage back in legion, wouldn’t mind to be able to do it on my warlock if it ever becomes a possibility. Thal’kiel mage tower apperance is BiS

You’re either trolling or low IQ. I seriously cared so much about the Mage Tower appearances I only felt compelled to get two appearances for the 20 alts I have. But yea, I care sooooooo much about what I “earned”. Was so easy to be honest. It’s principle.

Absolutely correct. Blizz can do whatever they want in the end. But that doesn’t negate the argument based on principle.

Maybe if you all spent less time crying about it and earned it during Legion you would have it.

we will, in 9.1.5 :slightly_smiling_face:

Careful. If you keep talking like this, you’ll summon Rastlin back from the void.

You won’t. Just like you won’t get any of the MoP or WoD challenge modes. Hope you like ur recolor T6

Let people ask to be catered to. Plenty of changes were put into this game because people were asked to be catered to.

In 2006, you were not able to have a character on both the horde and alliance on the same PVP server. People complained and that was changed. You weren’t allowed to server transfer from PvE to PvP. People complained and that was changed.

People should be able to complain about a game they’re paying for. You can defend your side, but yeah, let people scream about it.

In the early days of WoW you could get permanently banned for buying gold. Now Blizzard will sell you the gold. This the principle you talking about?

Nothing you said = why they should be brought back for the people who didn’t earn them during Legion.
