Reading your latest patch notes make me cringe, how could you be so tone-deaf, please bring this in line with other time walking things, you should not have to go pay lots of gold or spend hours/days grinding for a set if you don’t want to or have the time, the Mage tower is over tuned for 90% of the player base. Put a mythic mode and out the Mount and title behind that, elites get their way and the rest of us get to participate and get something out of it too.
Is it? Do we have those numbers? I know Blizzard does and they said they’d refer to their data when tuning things correctly. But do we have those numbers?
Mage tower is overtuned, its a fact. But for whatever reason Blizzard refuses to acknowledge this.
There’s even proofs all over the forums, for example Mage Tower 2.0 Tanking comparion analysis shows you need 2x the damage for the same content
And with every hotfix it only becomes even more overtuned because they nerfing players without compensating by nerfing bosses.
Imagine a challenge mode activity being overtuned. I believe they are tuning it and extending the time it is available for an extra two weeks.
This is not intended to be something that people can do with ease. It’s intended to be difficult. The original Mage Tower was not an activity intended for inclusivity and participation when it first came out. Even if it is Time Walking now, I can’t imagine anyone had serious illusions that it would be Mage Tower Lite.
Keep in mind, participation doesn’t guarantee victory either way. And some people find fun in the challenge. The Mage Tower isn’t an “elites vs. others” kinda thing. But I imagine OP is fueled by emotion.
We do not. But there’s also a philosophical issue behind this phrasing. People assume not being able to beat it in one evening means it’s not “tuned” correctly. The point of the tower is to be challenging and require pushing to the extreme, and in so far as that it’s concerned it’s more or less tuned (give or take some minor hot fix for certain classes maybe).
That said, I think difficulties would be the best option here. Some players just don’t want to put in that work, and that’s fine. Add current mog, mount, whatever else to mythic mode. Add some other set recolor to the lower difficulty, and maybe a separate mount or just a title for the lower difficulties for doing all of them.
Agree with the first half.
Disagree with the second half. There is nothing particularly impressive with the individual fights of the Mage Tower. No big spoilers or anything that warrants a tourist mode.
If you can’t beat the Mage Tower, the recolour already exists. It’s in Mythic Tomb of Sargeras and you should be able to solo that.
A lot of people were carried by their gear in the original mage tower
And the Bear form as well I’d assume for that difficulty level?
It’s not tone-deaf to ignore bad assumptions.
For example, your assumption that because it was brought back with timewalking the mage tower should be similar difficulty to a 5-person dungeon when it was clearly a challenge of individual awareness and ability to play a particular spec. That assumption can just be ignored.
And 90% of the players complaining that can’t completed it probably could if they had a little guidance and attempted to improve in the areas causing them problems.
The issue to me with the tuning was from different classes and how they didn’t have the same abilities or talents or rotations, which made things very wonky. I think Shadina had a good break down and comparison of SP back in Legion and SP now.
So while I think a bit of tuning was in order— just like they did at the very first release in Legion— I do agree that it’s absolutely still meant to be a challenge.
I agree with you. People really do not realize that the fights are 10 min, maybe 13 max, long. Nerf the HP, encounters whatever youre looking at a 5 min unimpressive fight.
I’m just sick of all the whining and am throwing suggestions.
At the end, yes. But comparisons by those who did it prior to that are pretty insightful.
I’m not. Let em whine.
Here’s some more unpopular facts.
- Wiping to the Mage Tower is your fault almost every single time.
- You don’t need 20 sockets or whatever to beat the Mage Tower. Just actually enchant your gear.
- Spending lots of gold on consumables is actually the norm when it comes to challenging content. Realize that it cuts both ways and if you’re an alchemist right now you can actually make GIGA amounts of money by selling Legion potions.
Good points, I retract my previous statement.
The big elephant in the room is that maybe not everyone will be able to complete the challenges and that’s OK.
I do think they should have spent more time tuning on the PTR rather than having it go live like it did. It was only on the PTR for a very short while.
This I agree with.
Most of the challenges are about mechanics.
I see a ton of complaints about TW gear, which does help, but no amount of gear will save you from failing to do the mechanics. There are a ton of 1 shots in the chalalnges, or things that make it impossible (kruul cast, knocked off platform, boulders that nearly 1 shot, etc.).
It’s just easier this way…
Where was that stated?
It was never “Fun”, for most of us, it was a teeth grinding challenge, you asked for it to return and Blizzard gave in to the cries. Your appropriate response should be “Thank You”.
This is what is printed on the Legion Time Walking return page… Conquer the Mage Tower in Legion Timewalking (worldofwarcraft.com)
When first introduced in Legion, the Mage Tower challenged players to conquer unique solo class-specific encounters. Legion Timewalking brings back the excitement with all-new rewards to obtain, and a chance to prove your tenacity. Are you a master of your class? It’s time to put your knowledge and skill to the test once more!
I don’t believe the word “fun” is in there.
Tenacity, Master, Knowledge, and Skill, those are your key words for the mage tower.
It’s a challenge mode. It was a challenge when it first released in Legion and it’s a challenge now, was never advertised as being anything different.
I’d like to point out though, that fun in a video game is implied, or at least it should be. And that’s one of those buzzwords that are open to interpretation. Some people really don’t have fun wiping on content, especially when they feel they should be able to overcome that content. But a lot of people enjoy a challenge and have fun during the process. Even when they are raging because they got the challenge boss to 10% and then wiped.
Bottom line is OP is not the arbiter of what is fun or not and fun is something that is to be determined on a person to person basis.
It was announced as timewalking event and those events never been any difficult and should not be.
