Mage Tower is a Fixable Mistake

Let me preface this like so: I’ve only recently started being a hardcore player, and the thing I’m most hard core about is collecting stuff. Reputations, mounts, pets. You name it, I’ve been doing it.

So, during Legion, I started the expansion just like the rest of you. A few weeks late, of course, but I hit content hard and had a blast. A few months pass, and I’m forced into a gap mid-way through where I was stuck not being able to focus on the game. Life happens, right?
I come back Legion roughly a year later, and I have to say that it still remains my favorite. I was swinging through reputation grinds in so little as a few weeks and hitting content hard. I say to a friend of mine that I’m excited to finally get into the artifact appearances. A checklist, a long term goal is what I’d equate them to. Then my friend tells me this:
“Ghost of the Pridemother is going away. All of the Mage Tower appearances are being removed.” Bummer, right? I’ve at least had a feral druid in some shape or form since Wrath. Well, of course, I ask, “How can I get it? I love that skin.”
He says, “Do the mage tower, but you can’t. You won’t be able to in the amount of time you have.”

This is a similar story I’ve heard very often. The comment responses are numerous, but generally expected. “Put up with it. It happened in MoP. Amani Warbear. Just be there, back in time. Never again. Maybe we’ll see it a Decade from now.” Well, it has been digging at me for months. No, maybe more than a year now.

Why are we, the players, being punished for this Blizzard?
Why would any developer place so little emphasis on an appearance, I mind you as a feral druid main, one of the very few we get for our class, and then rip it from the hands of thousands of players? A cape from a mini-boss on Timeless Isle is one thing, but one of the few alternatives for the feral druid class in the game?
Unthinkable.

Please allow us the chance to enjoy the content you have provided. We can prove our strength in a class trial despite the time period in which we do it. Please reconsider and allow us our chance.

If you don’t stay subbed you’ll miss your limited time chance at digital items.

You’re not.

Players who had the time/motivation to acquire these things when they were available are being rewarded.

@Wigglytüff If we want to waste five months doing Mage Tower, let us. It isn’t hurting anybody to be slightly more purple.

I’m sorry, but there is no punishment. There are things in this game that are exclusive to the expansion;

  • The Gates If Ahn’Qiraj
  • The opening of Sunwell Plateau
  • The two proto drakes from Wrath
  • I’m sure there was something in Cata that I’m forgetting
  • The cloaks (though the quest line should have stayed, just not the cloaks) and the CM armors in MoP
  • The rings and CM weapons in WoD
  • And now the MT appearances in Legion

Unfortunately for past players, they’re time limited events. But they’re advertised as such, we know that they’re limited. They state it again and again. But these were for players that were currently playing at the time.

Bringing them back shouldn’t be the request. You can feel bad for missing out, but you should be requesting a new version of the Mage Tower. The CM sets showed up in the Legion Class Halls (albeit less detailed) and they’ve mentioned alternate Druid forms in the future. So keep pushing for that. But the Mage Tower should remain in the past, along with the other expansion specific timed events.

Exclusivity is not bad. You missed it, and it’s gone now. Tough luck. Hope you’re here for the next cool thing.

So what about the Warlock Trial in WoD? By your explaination, every raid feature should be brow beaten. No player should own the frostbound drake, or even be able to play on old expansion features [Ashes of A’lar, 0.05% drop chance, Thunderfury.]
In fact, I’m currently grinding both of those. Why not mage tower?

Not all of them. Specific ones that were told they were limited. As for the Warlock one? Alright, then bring back the Mage Tower challenges but you don’t get the appearances (equivalent to the title you can no longer get).

I get comparing appearances to titles doesn’t hold the same weight for some people, but others really wanted their “of the Black Harvest” so it matters to some people.

For the difficulty to remain as intended, they would have to work to keep it current. They are not going to rebalance it every time there is a new expansion and things change. Take it as a future lesson: When something is available, do it, just in case you may want the rewards later on.

That was poor advice from your friend. I know a lot of people who raced to get their characters leveled and mostly geared to try the tower. And many got what they wanted, because they actually tried and because the buff to our artifact was so OP by the end.

No one is being punished. If you didn’t try for it, that’s on you.

It’s one skin out of five that were added. Hyperbole much?

Mage Tower isn’t coming back. Like every Challenge before it, limited time.

I’m amazed at how many people are opposed to this. I think I’m actually upset.

Nope. You had the same amount of time everyone else had that did do it. It was announced for over a year it was a limited time thing, and should remain as so. My 10 year old daughter managed to do the challenge…so you could have too…
There have always been limited time things in WoW and always should be. You are not punished for NOT doing it as they are just cosmetic. You are just not able to get the “braggin rights” to say you did it. Just suck it up buttercup there and go on with life. I missed out on investing in microsoft because I wasn’t born yet…so I should have the chance to invest in microsofts beginning and reap its benefits too…

I’d actually be disgusted with blizzard if the MT rewards came back. They said it was a limited time thing that was gone for good once it was gone. A lot of people put in a lot of time to grind those out, and to just hand them out after saying that would be very rude to them.

It is what it is. Legion offered several mogs and most are still obtainable

I’ll explain it the way I would to my kids: someone else being rewarded for something is NOT the same as you being punished.

You aren’t “punished” for not being able to do the Mage Tower, you just missed out on an opportunity.

This has been a precedent for three expansions now. We had two other Challenges prior to this in Mists and Warlords. Those don’t exist anymore either.

You had the chance. You didn’t take it. You have no one to be upset with but yourself.

Say there is a lottery with a lot of money.

Once someone wins it, and thus no longer available, can I claim that it is unfair since I didn’t buy a ticket?

No.

I had a chance to buy a ticket before the raffle was completed, but I didn’t.

Same thing applies here.
People are opposed because these were advertised as limited time items from the moment they were announced at Blizzcon.

This wasn’t a surprise removal.
They were designed with this in mind.
There really isn’t any room for complaint here.

You can be upset if you want, but you knew it was going to be limited, just like everyone else.

I actually didn’t, but this isn’t about me. I would adore a chance, but the concept more bothers me.
There are five spots in the pool in dreamgrove, but only four are fillable. We have permanently lost an item from this game that is really nice. Thousands of weapons exist for humanoid-in-appearance classes, but feral and guardian druids only have a handful.

Mage Tower at the end of Legion was entirely faceroll even with just catchup gear.

Your friend lied to you. Unless you came back literally a day or two before it was removed, you had time.

Ultimately, timed content is fine. Rewarding players for sticking with the game long-term is fine. Cosmetics are the best way to do that, since cosmetics stick around, while gear and such does not.

I think the -content- should stick around. The mage tower scenarios. But it’s fine that the limited rewards are gone.

Exclusive content is fine. Think of it as a reward to player who participated and worked on stuff when the content was relevant.

Pretty much a shirt saying “I was there when this thing was going on”, and that makes peoplee feel good about their achievements.

The only advice I can give is to pay attention to what is going to be exclusive content and work on it as fast as possible.
