The fact they’ve been consistent in their story for half a decade lends credibility to their statement.
I don’t disagree with your statement that people should cite sources when making a claim but I find it far less bothersome than someone who simply dismisses a claim by asserting it’s a lie without anything to back it up.
Over the last decade, we’ve seen the rise of “fake news” being used to dismiss anything and everything regardless of its validity. We’ve got people insisting the Earth is flat, shouting at clouds, and undermining decades of well-established medical practice and it needs to stop. /rant
