Madseason is a very smart person

Well, you’re probably right there, and some do try to use it as “proof” of their own opinions. In a perfect world I guess we’d all preface it with something like “I liked this and agree with it.” Where I have a problem and find it hard not to reply is when someone is pompously declaring that confirmation bias is the “only” reason someone agrees with it, as “proof” that their own assertions are the correct ones.

I like to point out that (in my opinion), everyone, and I do mean everyone, has some form of confirmation bias that contributes to their liking or disliking a video or article or whatever. Even the accusers. And that they might have a better argument if they admitted their own confirmation bias as well. Glass houses and all that.

Sure, it’s a problem everywhere. However, on this particular topic and in this thread, it’s flagrant. Bringing up other areas where someone may have confirmation bias only serves as a red herring.

Not a red herring at all. That’s another buzzword that doesn’t apply here. You also have to take the context of the posts where the buzzword (buzz term? lol) “confirmation bias” accusation is being used. They are indeed saying that confirmation bias is the “only” reason some people agree, while ignoring their own confirmation bias, and there’s no way they can know that. It’s simply a way to try to invalidate the opposing opinion.

Like I’ve said, I haven’t even watched it myself yet so I can’t speak to it’s contents yet. At this point I can only speak to the fact that I see people arguing against it via the method of trying to invalidate it with buzzwords, along with trying to invalidate the people who agree with it. Which, btw, just makes me want to watch it.

cool story preheet

I would love to watch it and see these points you claimed to be strong, but you didn’t tell us which video to look for.

I’m not seeing people post anything about other videos from other external sources. The only thing that may be interpreted as confirmation bias from the pro-boost view point is that Blizzard said they’re implementing it. As of now, this is a fact. The only blue post on the subject was essentially defending the existence of the boost. Therefore, stating that the other side has confirmation bias appears to be a logical fallacy. It’s being brought up and bringing nothing to the debate. Hence a red herring.

No, it starts when you first log in the game after creating your character. This goes for every single game.

I’ve never understand the need for this whole subjective “Oh the game doesn’t start until this Insert arbitrary point here.” as an argument for… anything really.

Or they do have any of those things and they know how to manage their time better then you can.

I think we are talking at cross purposes here. The posts I’m referring to are those accusing the people who agree with the video of “only” agreeing because of confirmation bias, and even using “confirmation bias” against the maker of the video. As if anyone would make an hour long video to give his opinion if he didn’t actually hold that opinion, and even assigning devious or malicious intent. And yet, they seem to think that accusing them of confirmation bias will invalidate the entire video.

Yeah, I don’t feel folks should be accusing Madseason of confirmation bias. However, those who are posting that video as proof are indeed suffering from confirmation bias. This topic doesn’t invalidate the video. It invalidates the use of the video as proof (and, if you were to watch the video, essentially going against his request of having constructive discourse.)

An analogy I previously used elsewhere:

Consider a survey that is given at a steak house to see how people feel about vegan food. You’re essentially finding out how a particular audience feels about a topic. Not how the general population feels.

On this we can agree.

Oh I know 100% I am bias; it’s those people who claim they aren’t who you know are the most bias and unwilling to ever acknowledge it.

True. Generally when I say “in my opinion” on something, I accept that it’s implied I’m really saying “in my very biased opinion.” Actually, when speaking to people in person I usually just come out and say that.

When level max, you reach the “weekly routine” really fast + this weekly routine take around 2-3h MAX to do.

Unless you are trying harding MM+99/Mythic raiding/Gladiator everydays despite all the various activities leveling alt is the most interesting one remaining and time consuming.

A lot of players were leveling alts since Vanilla for this reason. Not because it’s “fast” or you can buy a boost. Because it was a good opportunity to play a new class and spend hours doing it.

Hmm… but that’s precisely what you tube trolls going for click bait do, they pick a hot issue and take a strong stance on one side or the other. They aren’t offering their honest opinion or trying to provide objective commentary, they’re trying for clicks.

Yes, there are many who do that but we can’t just assume that someone is that type simply because they’re a youtube poster. And we can’t use that as “proof” that everything they say is nothing more than click bait.

So are you saying that Madseason, in particular, is one of those and that his vids should be invalidated because of it? Or that no one should believe anything he says? That seems to be what you’re actually getting at, correct me if I’m wrong.

If so, then I disagree with you. I find him to be a thoughtful youtuber (unlike some), even though I don’t always agree with the conclusions he comes to or how he arrived at them.

It’s ok that you have your opinion of him as a person or poster, though others may disagree with you, but it’s hardly “proof” that your opinion on the subject matter of the vid is correct.

I can’t speak for all of his videos, but in the case of this specific one yes I think it was just click bait.

He forgot to realize gnomes have a +intelligence racial bonus, right?

i have 4 60s in classic and i want anew one
boosted or not
and you have no say on it

I doubt that the guy who made the video is making whole piles of money for click bait. I looked at his YouTube videos and he simply doesn’t make enough content to make a living on YouTube with the present monetization model. It’s my opinion he’s doing it because he just loves the world of Warcraft like we do. Not everyone has to Share the same ideas and points of view. There are many things I agree with you on and back you up because in my opinion you’re right about things even when many disagree with you can call ya a troll. You’re just a different guy but you unlike most who don’t share be same points of view as I do have at least made an honest and real effort to change minds and aren’t selling anything that I aware of and I respect you because you’re you and unchanged and still passionate about WoW. Because of that I love ya man; never change who you are!

Fair enough. We will just have to agree to disagree on this one.
