I see we are making up things and calling them facts again.
Ok.
Go to the trade chat of any major city and say hello right now. How long until people respond to you?
I’ve never felt internet kinship more strongly than I have after reading this post.
On my server, about 5 seconds?
If I do that on my server no one responds at all.
You are right that there’s a long list of reasons why new players aren’t sticking around.
But by far one of the biggest ones is that there is nothing in the game encouraging any social activity between players.
Other successful MMOs running today do not have this problem, WoW classic doesn’t have this problem either.
The real solution to this issue is to merge all servers down to 10-15 total. Playing on a dead realm is a terrible experience and the hundred or so that are just barren are a complete waste.
Took like 5 seconds in Siren Isle. Imagine it’s less in a capital, since I just had a chat with someone and made them a leatherworking tool this morning.
So remove LFG altogether. Forget about the speed of it, the fact that you can just queue into one and not say a single word is way more hurting than the speed of it.
Eww, no thanks. I chose a low-pop realm for a reason, I don’t need Sargeras-level lag when people pull the world boss on Tuesday.
Oh we are not a dead realm by any means, the people are very respectful & kind to one another but in general, no one talks.
I guess that could qualify as dead… I am unsure, lemme go take the pulse of some Forsaken and I will get back to you.
This is why I brought it up because I am currently in the most populated server in WoW. Every time I log in I greet the trade chat to Orgrimmar and no one responds.
I do the same thing in WoW classic and people respond with fun conversation.
Your server cluster is dead.
There are 2100 unique 80s with 35 tracked raiding guilds. Area 52 has 37,000 unique 80s and 900 tracked raiding guilds.
Probably because nobody sees it amidst the rest. I’ve been on full servers, trade chat’s not just busy it’s oversaturated, messages bump off screen the second they are posted.
A lot of would be conversation are also avoided because players specifically remove trade chat to avoid all that spam.
That’s why it is segregated between trade and trade services.
Trade services is spammy, trade is not.
It is spammed in mine, by crafter offering their work, many of them seemingly using addons or scripts to chat.
Speaking of chat, that’s another thing I’d do to benefit new players. Make trade (services) opt in. Have it off by default.
Agreed. Every now and then I’ll hit a slow running group, but yeah, nearly all of them want fast and furious. lol
Its thought processes like this that pushes new players away and holds MMOs back.
Saying “Play solo” or “play with your own group” is ostracizing new players.
