Low level dungeons need to be slowed down somehow

Just did a dungeon where there was a new player who was just playing catchup the whole time, never got to cast a single spell and eventually got lost behind while we killed the last boss. Most people in dungeons are just leveling their alts as quickly as possible, so understandably we’ll be bum rushing everything to the end. But I have to think this is a horrible dungeon experience for new players who are still making sense of their buttons and get no time to take the dungeon in.

“while we killed the boss” so you left the new player behind like the rest of the group?

Should I have waited outside while they 3-manned it?

I’d see the logic here if this was the new player dungeon experience, but they are given a set of NPC allies to team up with at each dungeon along the way through Dragonflight. Now that leveling dungeons are available with followers, it’s a nonissue.

I’m curious why would a brand new player queue for a dungeon if they were as you said

Not even a new player, but an older player trying to get used to a new class etc, last thing I would try do would be a RDF dungeon. That might just be me though.

Follower dungeons are a thing, use those to get used to your buttons.

Inb4 people say “don’t play the game with other people, go solo a follower dungeon”.

Whoops, too late.

Short answer is that the player base is just bad now. They race to a finish line week 1 of the game and then never play with anyone else outside their clique. You will realize this soon enough.

The only time you will ever ever play with a Mythic raider is if you somehow make it to the end of Heroic raid and someone is trying to get Spymasters or something. You will see them for one boss and they will vanish after.

Probably because they expect to play with other players in an MMO.

What level was the player? What expansion was the dungeon in?

The best way to slow it down is to do it with friends.

this is why we have follower dungeons, fyi.

they just need to add follower dungeons to every dungeon in the game.

That’s not why we have follower dungeons actually.

ok, then why do we have follower dungeons?

The reason they exist has to do with pacing, yes, but they don’t exist as a solution to the issue in the OP.

If a player wants to really take their time without the worry of a queue or holding back other players, follower dungeons exist. They don’t exist because dungeons are intended to be bum rushed and new players can play with bots if they don’t like it. Nuanced difference here.

ok, so then your friend can just learn the dungeons with follower dungeons first, right?

Follower Dungeons are very much an optional feature.

I do not play MMORPGs to play by myself with bots, and I’d imagine most people checking out the game aren’t here to do that either.

If they are going to be used as an excuse to let leveling content become even worse than it has been, then they need to be removed.

I think they’re slow enough as is!

New players get enough time/places to test their abilities and rotation - i say as someone new enough to remember. :stuck_out_tongue:

It is the new player dungeon experience.

if they are that new maybe they shouldn’t be in group play for awhile

This is the opposite of the way it should be. The default should be slow, and if you want to speed it up, “the best way to [speed it up] is to do it with friends.”
