That is literally what this addon will do for you just in a different chat channel.
Boy do I ever despise these forums

Non vanilla players will praise the never working call to arms, which btw never really worked and they can’t provide any proof of it working during vanilla so they just ignore that part. No, private server footage doesn’t count.
It’s more than just spamming the channel ‘LFG’. Despite people like you it was almost always far more engaged than saying ‘Yes I’ll go’ and that’s it.
Another CRUCIAL point is in retrospect we now know exactly what it was that killed WoW’s community. It was LFG and CRZ and flying.
Granted, this addon can’t be as horrendous because it lacks the CRZ component, but it’s bad enough because it turns finding groups into a spreadsheet or a lobby-- that isn’t at all what vanilla was about.
The minutiae of a game matters, and how information is presented is actually VERY important. Besides, this addon clearly treads far beyond simply presenting the same information in a different way. I just hope Blizzard can see the obvious detrimental effect addons like this will have on the finding of groups.
Okay so how are you going to get Blizzard to step in and shut down Discord for the lifespan of WoW Classic.
Different problem entirely. Nice job trying to change the subject though.
It isn’t. This addon does nothing that isn’t accomplished with widely-used public realm discords.
That you would say its a different problem entirely proves your ignorance on the matter and you are yet another shmuck in the sea of fools that turned on their blinders the moment they heard ‘ELL EFF GEE’ like a magic command phrase you were once hypnotised into triggering an irrational response to.
Addons do not and can not imitate most functionality of retails quality of life systems. It can’t teleport you, it can’t enable cross realm, it cant reduce the difficulty of the dungeons. You NEED to go and read what the addon does.
Then read it again.
It is merely a custom chat channel addon. All it does is display your group or desire to find a group in its own UI and at the absolute worst it allows you to look for groups outside of main cities. It doesn’t do anything else.
I think. Not sure, someone may need to correct me. That the idea of “the spirit of classic” is that organized groups is fine. Doesn’t matter if its friends, or guildies, or discord mates, as long as you organizae either outside of game or ahead of time then it fits the spirit. But once you decide to add random players to the group you must sit in one space and manually type out a LFM message every few minutes or it ruins classic.
You are wrong. You have now been corrected.
Nope. Discord is not LFG and blizz can actually break LFG so you have to use your silly little chat room, which most players don’t give a damn about.
I guess we will see how it goes. Its still within the same server, people will still need to behave, be sociable and walk to the dungeon.
facepalm
You are right, Discord is not LFG. And if you think for a hot minute that this addon everyone is complaining about is LFG in the same sense that YOU think it is, boy oh boy just… STOP. Stop embarassing yourself.
Was this to me? Can you actually tell the correct answer then? That’s what it means to be corrected btw, first you say I am wrong then you tell me why.
This has nothing to do with ‘the spirit of classic’, in my opinion. The opinion part is important. You asked to be corrected. Only facts can be correct or not. So I assume you thought you were stating facts. You are not. You are wrong.
But IMO the ‘spirit of classic’ is that there is a World, and that World is the main character of the game.
Reducing the impact and size of the world goes against the ‘spirit of classic.’ Reducing the value of players/characters/classes goes against the ‘spirit of classic.’
Now we are talking about ‘the spirit of classic’ like we would talk about ‘the spirit of the law’ as opposed to ‘the letter of law.’ Vanilla wow itself doesn’t hold to ‘the spirit’ on all things.
Examples would be linked AH and mailboxes. These reduce the size of the world and reduce interaction between players within that world.
So ‘the spirit of classic’ isn’t something you beat people over the head with it is just a guiding reminder to try and preserve the size, scope and danger of the world and the identity and value of players and their characters.
The ClassicLFG tool:
The player, their characters, their actions, and their location in game all still matter.
Having a global chat channel or slick Looking for Group Ui, might reduce the size of the world a bit. But its not drastic and it simply is an unavoidable consequence of having prevalent and easy to use communications with internet, Discord and slack etc…
Good Luck, Have Fun.
You are correct I should have stated “I want to be corrected on what this spirit is that people keep quoting”. I find your answer very helpful thank you for indulging my desire for more details. After reading your response I’m not sure you are of the same opinion as the people I was hoping to hear from but your response was very thorough.
Enjoy your day.
Blizzard has stated that what used to be considered a high pop realm is now considered a low pop realm, with modern servers. Picture this kind of spam, but x50, all hours of the day, every day…
Yeah, LFG addons or a built in system need to happen…
You seem bothered now that you realize lfg is a crutch and discord can’t replace it because it’s a cumbersome platform no inside of WoW.
He is right. You are embarrassing yourself.
So you have no real arguments besides mud slinging? Ok.
How did flying kill community? This is a ridiculous statement with no backing. Flying was in the game way before crz or sharding was and the community was alive and bustling.
Everyone is making a mountain out of a molehill. The same thing happened with layering, mega servers, using the 1.12 patch data instead of incrementally adding changes, using the legion client graphics. The list goes on with yet another ridiculous and baseless claim that vanilla will be ruined by (add new fad to complain about here).
You just need to read them.
