We’ll get a live stream for WoW tomorrow and people will forget about a 3 year old P2W Korean grinder. There is no doomsday scenario.
?
PoE has nothing to do with WoW. I just had to rip on PoE because I found it gross and shameless. The game knows it is simply living off the nostalgia of Diablo 2 and its time will come when Diablo 4 releases.
What server will you be on? I’m looking at Azena i think
Heresy! The dungeons and dragons pve heroes who have never pvped said that competitive pvp can’t exist without gear power discrepancies because wow is an mmorpg!!1! How can other mmorpgs pull it off!
WoW defended its “turf” as the neighborhood tough guy admirably in its prime. Now its at the point where it answers its challengers at the door in its underwear while eating a sandwich. Its fought its fights and just wants to be left alone. Let these other newcomers fight it out for the ones looking for the next shiny.
(I dont think WoW hasnt made tons of mistakes or does not care anymore , I am not attacking anyones choice in games, the games or anyones feelings. The post was just a silly bit of imagery)
Korean MMOs typically don’t do great in the US.
Unless this one breaks the mold, they tend to be super grindy and heavy on the microtransactions with very direct P2W features.
Either way a game that has been around for 3 years isn’t exactly starting tomorrow and I doubt it’s on anyone’s radar.
If you showed me a screenshot of it and told me it was any of the last 10 games like it I wouldn’t be able to tell them apart.
I jumped in early on New World and got burned so I’ll wait a couple of months to see initial reactions. I put a lot of hours into D3 so it might be worth at least checking out.
Sure, they see both MMOs but past that they are entirely different games. You could group FF14 and WoW or GW2, ESO, and New World but Lost Arc is out on its own in the genre
If anything, it’ll hit D2/D3/PoE more than WoW because of the similar game design
I got my Plat pack bois and ready to take a nice long break from wow. Whether or not I come back depends on you development team! Knock my socks off with a 10.0 announcement soon with tons of content and amazing features. For now 9.2 looking wayyyy too boring for me see you all in LA and possibly in 10.0 depending how they shape it up.
As I understand it, Lost Ark will have a premium sub available too. So if you want to play it for free, you’ll have a harder grind than someone who pays a premium subscription. That’s fair.
And Microtransactions are not required. I guess we’ll see.
I know Black Desert was NO fun without paying for the frills. EQ II was the same way. If you doing anything but puttering and wanted to make good progression and keep up with “the Jones”, you paid for it.
I agree with the person who said this game could scoop up some Wow Refugees from Final Fantasy, but I don;'t its going to put much of a dent in Wow.
The subs will soar a bit in Wow when 9.2 comes out. Probably again in 9.2.5. And as always a new Expansion will bring new life to Wow. The question is, how much staying power will it have.
I think many of us keep more than one game sub going at a time. So even if I play other games, wow doesn’t lose my sub.
It’s more about available player time than anything else and the time commitment for Lost Ark is much closer to an MMO than an ARPG.
Lost Ark may look and feel like a Diablo clone but that’s just the aesthetics. The design of character prog is closer to WOW and other traditional MMO’s. You can still log in for quick play like any ARPG but real progression will require more time commitment.
If you like pvp lost ark probably has the best mmorpg pvp on the market* systems and gearing wise. Itd be worth trying as a side game for casual pvp
(No gear, free to play, no barriers to entry, all talents and skills unlocked in pvp so no need to grind pve content to play pvp, can’t fall behind so can take month long breaks and be at the same power level as everyone else in arena, rated q’s are disabled at popular wintrading times, exclusive weapon enchants cosmetics awarded for reaching high ratings, frequent tuning passes that discourage constant fotm reroll)
*speaking purely from a systems and balancing perspective
