Loot scarcity design is an overwhelmingly positive change that has been well received by the majority of the player base. Making claims with no supporting evidence, hey, this is fun!
Well let’s see they designed it, implemented it, tested it thoroughly internally, tested it on the PTR, rolled it into live and continue to monitor it and tweak it… chances are it’s working as intended, yeah.
If you don’t appreciate or agree with the design philosophy, that’s fine, but that doesn’t mean its broken.
I’m really surprised how much negative response this thread has gotten in the sense of those who think the reward and loot systems currently in the game are good.
I guess the last thing I’ll say is I hope I’m wrong because if I’m not then this is going to end very badly for the population of this game if not addressed quickly.
Says you who are 181 without killing any raid bosses, even LFR, and I’m 200 and I’ve cleared CN twice and am working Heroic. It feels like I’m putting in a lot of work for not much reward.
Yes, for you. There are people that actually complete a lot more content, and much higher content than you and are still around your ilvl. Time + effort with content difficulty should be rewarding, and the fact is for a lot of people it isn’t. I’m 207, not doing too badly, but outside of 2 items being traded to me from raid, literally all of my personal drops have been belts. Five belt drops from raid being my only personal loot is honestly just not acceptable. The same belt was my reward from the 4x mythic weekly quest. The same belt was also in my vault last reset. So yeah, loot can be pretty terrible.
Why not add a system like the vault but for m+ end of dungeon chests or raid bosses. If the game decides you get loot at the end, it gives you a choice of 2-3 items that drop from the boss, or from the dungeon to choose from. It still might not always give you a choice with an upgrade, but it’s a hell of a lot better than running a dungeon 15+ times and getting the same item multiple times - or always getting something unusable.
Players in BFA:
Loot is dropping way too often! Everything shouldn’t be free epic loot dispensers! There is too much gear! Blizzard is ruining WoW!!!
Players in Shadowlands:
Loot isn’t dropping fast enough! Everything should be free epic loot dispensers! There isn’t enough gear! Blizzard is ruining WoW!!!
The issue boils down simply. They said that “all loot would be essential loot” and “there will be less loot” when they were praising the virtues of Shadowlands.
I was afraid what would happen is the pendulum of loot drops would swing too far to other direction. And it has. The problem is only made worse when your spec favors certain stats.
I mean, sure, Frost DK can now use two handers again, but they have serious issues. And they’re part of the loot table. I just did a conductor “quest” and got a two hander. Ergo, I got loot and it’s vendor garbage.
The fact Conduits are part of the loot table is part of the issue. Back during Legion this was an issue as well. When you needed Armor or a Weapon you got a Relic. And you were supposed to be Happy you got ANY loot at all.
In short, they told us they’d do it. They just didn’t say how much they’d nerf gear drops. And I DO agree that BfA gave out too much loot. While SL is giving out too little loot (or not enough useful loot anyway).
I think it boils down to BfA having too much loot. So it was praised as a virtue and the players didn’t realize what the potential horrifying alternative is. One of the issues is that SL pretty much removed a whole method of gearing up. Sure, you CAN get gear from WQ, but they’re a lot less common.
While I may be a casual, I’m inclined to agree. BfA did give out too much loot. What we needed was to move toward something between Legion for loot and BfA. More loot than Legion, less loot that BfA.
Why was this thread flagged? She gives valid points. Why is loot so rare is it tied to Anima drought?
There can be a happy middle ground on loot. Or at least buff the loot rates by 1% or 2%. It went from motherlode rich in BFA to almost non existent SL’s. Can you at least buff loot alittle to put it in the middle ground? While keeping the rarity?
It’s not like were going to fill up a Olympic swimming pool with ilevel 230+ epics right off the bat…
Before you speak about the subject I feel like you should at least be good at m+ but you’re terrible at it. Raiding is the real participation award in this game and that’s a cold take.
I think it was flagged because there are people who like being in control of the power. They don’t want to share that power. And Loot is a source of power.
To be totally fair on this one, as someone who loves to PvP, I remember people in BFA not really caring about us who needed a newer way to get PvP gear. Appealing to the fact that PvE’ers are now having a harder time and should be PvP’ing to get some upgrades doesn’t really seem worth it to me. I don’t much care.
The other points, sure. But people keep bringing this one up and I feel like there’s no reason to. Throughout all of BFA, PvP’ers were completely screwed. Doing a mythic 10 throughout seasons 1-3 was better than hitting duelist, and took so much less effort for better gear, not to mention trinkets like Drest, Bike and Claw all came from PvP and were never once worth giving up in any situation whatsoever.
35 anima? Yes. Awful. Should be looked at. Raids dropping more loot? Yes, weekly lockout encounters should be dropping a bit more especially considering the intended amount is 3 for a 20 man group, which feels insane. Item design? Whatever, don’t much care there. The time and effort thing I think should be something we see looked at though, purely because the point behind an MMO is time investment.
But point 5? Nah. Irrelevant to the discussion in my opinion. We were told off rip that this expansion’s point behind gearing is that people who do both PvP and PvE would / should be in better positions because it opens up more avenues of acquiring gear. Those people who don’t wish to PvP should take this as an opportunity to try new things. Just like the PvP community has had to.
Just because Blizzard is a little richard to the PvP community doesn’t mean that PvE players should have to “go back to pvp, just to reasonably gear”. Many of us hate the PvP community for a variety of reasons. But, many of us would also like for the pvp community to have equal methods of gearing.
So, trying to say “we suffered, so you should suffer as well” is not how you get anyone to be willing to listen to you.
I don’t think you actually understood my point, but then I saw you don’t even LFR raid or do m0, so I don’t think you’ll ever really get the perspective of people putting in all that time. Maybe sit this subject out if you have no stake in it?
BfA only gave out a ton of loot because the devs messed up on Azerite gear at the start of the expansion. Only way to get an Azerite piece was from raiding or a mythic+ chest each week. So then they started just giving out Azerite gear like crazy
