No, it’s not meaningless. It’s far from meaningless. 97% of the population still cannot afford tier 1 mounts, they never have been able to, and they never will. we need more prestigious items in the game. Blizzard is doing the right thing, just because you’re outraged over it doesn’t make it not right.
it would have never affected 97% of the population.
I love working towards long term goals. I was really looking forward to this. Ive already saved 75k specifically for this mount. Im glad to see you are like minded. <3
Taking things out of game ie: achievements, mounts, transmogs etc. only hurts the playerbase and decreases morale. How does that help the game prosper?
Would it not be more prestigious if it was available for everyone but only the people with that amount of gold would be able to buy it? Or do you correlate rarity with prestige, because quite honestly rarity does not equal to prestige.
A Corvette C7 is more prestigious than a reliant robin, you can still buy a buy a C7 and you can’t buy a reliant robin but the C7 is still more prestigious.
Maybe they don’t need such an effective gold sink anymore.
Maybe they don’t like the fact that so many of these have made auction houses too available
Maybe they are going to release another shadowlands mount with similar capabilities
Maybe they hate the giant size of the mount and realize it was a mistake
The Yak mount was suppose to be a prestige mount - it was very expensive at the time. Maybe in shadowlands they are going to increase the gold drop rate - which will make these mounts as common as the yak mounts.
Basically, who knows the reasoning. But there may be a good reason… wait and ask the developers at the next Q&A.
Another thing retail is lacking are new players. I have a friend who doesn’t want to try WoW simply because he feels he’s too far behind, the game is too old, he’ll never catch up. I try to tell him that it isn’t like that and you can basically jump to the end, but he wants to get things.
Now if a new player starts they’ll see the Brutosaur mount and wonder how to get it, only to be discouraged that they can’t anymore. It’s a terrible feeling. I think negating that feeling as much as possible is better than giving a few people pride, especially since a new player who sees something they want will set a goal and work towards it. Now there’s less goals to be set, which means less reason to play, which means less subscription revenue.
3 years is alot more realistic than 1 years notice. Actually.
That’d be like… you know. previewing a mount in the next expansion, 1 year before the expansion, and giving people a heads up that mount will only be for that expansion.
So yes, that would be significantly better than halfway through an expansion.
3 years of a notice to remove something out of a game?? lol I don’t know what games you’re playing when dev’s give a 3 year notice to remove something as trivial as a mount out of a game.
People would stlil be upset about it being removed.
But it wouldn’t invoke this sort of backlash it’s getting.
So yeah, a 3 years heads up is better than 9-12 months.
Especially since it’d be previewed before the expansion and made clear before the expansion (Because our expansion cycles are about 2 years long) not halfway through an expansion.
In MOP, I didn’t have enough money for the Yak mount. A couple expansions later, I bought it.
Was hoping to do the same with the Brutosaur, but with business practices like this, I don’t think I’ll be playing WoW in a couple expansions, or even next expansion.
