Why are you more entitled to the loot than they are if you both participated?
They could return LFR to personal loot, but that still wouldn’t mean you get the item.

I don’t think I have seen this mentioned either way, but it could explain things: it might depend on the items maximum upgrade ilvl. For instance, I might be wearing something that is 450 that is either topped out or cannot be increased. After downing the boss an item 440 drops (with 8 upgrade levels). The initial drop is below my equipped but has the ability be leveled up to 464 ilvl so I can, do, and win a need roll. I got a fair amount of whispers in DF where only my ivl was looked at - not sure if it is even possible to see how far something has been upped on somebody else.

It doesnt. The only time ilvl plays a part is if jts the same EXACT item
As has been said, transmog is a major reason. The fix would be to make acquiring a higher tier piece unlock the lower tier appearances of the same piece. But I wonder if Blizz doesn’t want to do that because then there would be fewer overgeared players running LFR… and LFR kind of needs those players if they want to complete the wing without having to get up to max det stacks on every boss.
Though maybe they could help that by offering valuable completion incentives after players hit a certain ilvl. Maybe even make it an option where you can either go in for regular loot or you get locked out of regular loot but get that completion reward instead.
If I am given to option to roll need, I do. I’ll figure out whether it’s an upgrade later.

I did N palace tonight and rolled need on a champ track belt that was 597 and my belt was champ 606 and won the roll, Why? Because the belt that dropped had my best stats and the one I had equipped did not. There’s other reasons why this happens, my situation one of them.

Every time this topic comes up it makes me MORE determined to NEVER give away any drop I get where I need the transmog regardless of how badly someone says they need the stats
The sheer entitlement it takes to tell me that MY transmogs are nothing while THEIR ilvl ‘need’ with the drop will vaporize in 3 days when they get something to replace it…again…lol

Who are you to determine what is and is not better? I’d trade 20 ilvl to ditch an item with haste/vers to get crit/mast on my hunter.

I dont know how the system is set up, but my guess is “need” would give you better chances of winning than greed or anything else…so thats precisely what Id choose to give me the best chance if I need the transmogs and thats why Im inthe content to begin with.
in LFR it needs to be soulbound or warbound drops. nothing we can trade.
If I cant trade it, then theres no reason for someone in the run to be crying about it.
