No right click report… no enforcement of server rules… no punishment for being a douche in chat…

Am I right?

thats not enough; the auto-ban should be removed too

Congratulations on linking the Silence penalty system that was implemented in the Legion pre-patch. The right-click player reports and auto-squelch system were not part of the implementation of the Silence penalty system.

I will say it again, the right-click report and auto-squelch system was implemented into the game in May of 2007.

OP wants freedom to act badly in public channels with no fear of being muted.

Seems legit.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, xenophobic biggotry sucks to have to see and sometimes engage with, frankly it deters people from playing who otherwise woild play. Get it? Less money for Blizztivision! Bad for Blizztivision! Right-click report the jerks is the solution to the problem of people quitting over the annoying rhetoric. If you’re concerned about it, BE NICE! Consider a community oriented approach that is only concerned with content in the game. Cite one real time that the system was abused and not fairly resolved, I %#€£ing dare you!

That right there is so much concentrated truthiness.

You are completely correct that the right click to report feature was added in 2.1, but there is almost no information on whether or not this added a chat ban or anything after a certain amount of reports.

From what I can see the patch notes say…

“ You are now able to right click a player name to report them to GMs.”

Nothing about an automated chat ban. The closest thing I can find that references something remotely the same as an auto ban was a forum post from 2011 that indicated the report feature was to be used in cases of gold selling and chat spamming. At some point there was miscommunication with the GM’s and their supervisors because the forum moderator was telling people that they should still make a ticket if they are being harassed but those people that do that were claiming GMs answering their tickets were telling them to use the report feature instead.

I am almost 100% sure that is how it functions now, though It very well could be Badboy that does that for me.

Okay yep you are right the auto was in at the time, thank you for finding that.

“Is there anything else I can do to help the game master team take action against spammers?
Yes! In order for us to take swift action against spammers reported this way, it is very important that this feature is only used to report in-game spam. Any other grievances you have with players should be reported using the regular ticketing system, to ensure that your reports are processed correctly and as efficiently as possible.”

This is why people need to be thorough with their research and claims. I would say the vast majority of people believe the auto-squelch was implemented in the Legion pre-patch.

They’re off by over nine years.

No one should get banned by a automated system ever…

Curious question - is there any evidence that this was true in the NA region as well, or only the EU archive?

If a player needs to be silenced or have an action taken against them, it should be the decision of ONLY a GM. Not a group of players.

Report should stay. Auto-squelch should go.

I can’t imagine a classic WoW experience with players having this kind of potentially abusive control over other players.

Yes, I have a link but I purposely use the EU one because of people grasping at straws, it’s entertaining.

No bans are automated, but thanks for perpetuating the ignorance.

Hmm, I was under the impression that you could get automatically squelched if you said the wrong thing in chat and enough people reported you. I will check my source on that… if I remember where I heard it…
