Okay yes I totally see how this could happen and yes I am 100% for preventing this and perma banning people who would even premeditate something that creepy.
We also agree that this is NOT a common issue, not even remotely common compared to the average “this person is being a jerk” situation.
As someone who has personally experienced both, no.
Stalking and harassment are the same whether online or irl and the line between them isn’t as impenetrable as you might hope to believe.
Oh ya no doubt more often it not its just someone getting there jollies off or trolling you knowing its annoying you. The other guy is a misguided however thinking right click to report would even deter someone from being a psycho no in game report feature is going to change a crazy person mind. So comparing one to the other is minuet (so think I spelled that wrong).

That is my stance on the whole thing… if someone is going to stalk you in WoW to the point that they find out where you live IRL and come find you… why were they playing the game in the first place? did they know who you were before hand? idk it just seems like something that would happen about as often as a mass shooting.
I apologize the topic has been hijacked into a discussion revolving around comparison/correlation of in-game and IRL harassment. Any form of harassment is not acceptable.
I firmly believe the automated report system will cause more problems specifically for Classic and the nature of the game, and I wish you all a lovely day.
I agree, I was sort of in the camp of “it wont be abused as much as I think it will”. But after hearing someone mention people reporting for being ganked… THAT scares me… I gank people constantly…
Not the same. You can’t log off of irl. I feel bad if you had stuff happen to you but it’s a virtual world it’s not remotely the same. That said it should def be dealt with. But I dont want what if scenarios perpetrated by prob less than a percent of the pop controlling what I do in game.
Citation needed. There are definitely more threads on the classic forum about the potential for this to be abused than there are thread on GD of it actually being a problem. Don’t really see it in customer service forum either.

I agree, I dont think this is a problem for retail, BUT HAVING SAID THAT… I can see this being a problem in classic considering there is about 10000X more player interaction/talking going on vs. in retail.
I got agree this issue is more of classic the sky is falling issue then anything in retail ever had. I think way back in its early iteration there was less than handful of omg topics about it with even less to none of them being a GM was like omg it was abused we will reverse. The most extreme was when some streamers were calling for people to come to them an test it, but many extreme things had to happen to make it happen.

Oh, you can “log off” irl… there’s just no logging back in afterwards.
I’ve been harassed so badly in games that take a lax approach to policing player behavior I abandoned them.
Policy enforcement to prevent abusive behavior is necessary both online and irl.
If you can’t see the difference between being “abused” in a fantasy world and in reality that’s your problem. Also for people to use this kind of thing as an argument for getting your way in a video game is pretty sad.
Online abuse affects real life. It’s a real thing. It’s called cyberbullying, look it up.
MMOs are social games which opens up the possibility of psychological abuse by other players. It’s absolutely astounding to see someone claim a system for reporting bad behavior is interpreted as a way of “getting your way”.
If anything there’s a lot more evidence pointing towards bullies abusing auto-banning systems to get their targets temporarily or permanently banned after simple harassment fails to push a mark offline.
You’re looking at this from the wrong perspective. If someone legit leaves the game because of harassment it’s not the victim of harassment who has gotten their way, it is the perpetrator of harassment who has gotten their way and they will go on to do it again to someone else.
You are really naive.
I have had players track down my real name and harass me for my views. This is the internet, everything about you is online. With a little time and a bit of effort, I can find out where you live, your real name and your phone number for starters.
I don’t believe this is the appropriate forum to complain about stalking. Nobody here cares if you were stalked irl, as it has nothing to do with the topic at hand. The fact you are trying to compare following someone around in a video game to getting stalked irl is completely ridiculous. Stop trying to be a part of the #meetoo movement, and get attention elsewhere, perhaps in therapy.

I had no idea we had hackerman / serial killers IN MASS playing world of warcraft, I remember all the times in the past 15 years that has happened to me… oh wait that’s literally never happened to me because it makes absolutely no sense that someone would go to those lengths to “troll” someone.
Yes I am completely oblivious to cyber security threats to my identity and life.

Thank you. I’d really like it if the topic came back to Automated bots determining report legitimacy.
Make disparaging comments all you want. it doesn’t avoid the truth. Like I said…naive.
Can you show me some specific cases of stalking which occurred in world of warcraft? Show me some examples… enlighten me
