It does! Well, it used to anyway. I haven’t tried it for at least a year or so.
Tried this on a boosted horde druid two weeks ago. It did transport me to the where my Garrison is supposed to be. However, it was just a snowy field in Frostfire Ridge. Couldn’t proceed any further. Couldn’t create my garrison. Had to hearth out and do the entire Tanaan Jungle scenario to unlock it.
If you take the Ashran portal and fly over to the garrison site, you don’t land anywhere. So, logically, you would fly to where you know the garrison will be placed, not to the shore or a cave elsewhere.
The whole point of this thread is we want to skip the scenario!
Finally someone else gets it! This was my same problem.
It’s either been changed or it’s different for Alliance, because I took the MoP/WoD portal on this guy, made my way to Shadowmoon Valley, and picked up the quest to start my garrison.
I have a Horde 120 that doesn’t have a garrison. I’ll check it out tonight.
Others have said there is a quest giver there, even if you didn’t do the scenario. The problem is they aren’t at the garrison sites, so how are we supposed to know where to find them?
I first went to the portal to enter into Draenor that way and was offered the scenario. That is the way it used to be done, and where many may still head first.
So, please, Blizzard, let us say 'We have heard this story before" if we choose, and skip this mess. Don’t make us go from here, to here, to here and then look for an npc who isn’t at the garrison site.
Definitely this. Would also like to just see WoD/Legion merged for the 90-110 scaling, since the actual Artifact weapons were disabled and no longer matter in the slightest.
Those quests would be at the location where’d you get off the boat after the intro quests. Let me see if I can find some coordinates for you.
I mean… Google? Wowhead? It’s not like you don’t have the sum of all human knowledge at your fingertips or something.
Why would you google something you didn’t even know existed? After you do the scenario, it sends you right up to the middle of your garrison site… not down the hill or around the corner. So, logically, this is where that npc should be placed.
Well, I wanted to know if it was possible to skip the WoD intro quests because I was tired of doing them; I asked here, found out about the MoP/WoD portal, Googled it, and used it. Once there, I wanted to know if I could build my garrison without having done the intro quests, so I Googled it.
So the answer to your question is: because I wanted to know if it existed.
Look, I have no horse in your race here. I don’t care if you want what you’re asking for or if it gets added. I’m just saying that it can be done, as I did it, but I had to Google a little bit. Because…
No, that’s where it should be if you did the intro quests. I mean, maybe, logically, yeah… but the MoP/WoD portal short-circuits that logic, the normal quest flow. So you have to back-track a little bit to find where the quest-chain starts, and go from there. Seems pretty elementary to me. shrug
You can look on wowhead to see where the first quest is to start the process to build the garrison - it’s on the shoreline near the garrison. That is where the quest is. I did it not that long ago (maybe a month?) and it worked fine.
For the Horde, the quest is called “A Song of Frost and Fire.” If you have Tomtom, the coords are: 40.76, 66.99 i n Frostfire Ridge (or close).
I just made a trial character to check this out. What I found was there is an npc, not easy to spot because unless you have trival quests checked on your minimap you don’t have the big yellow ! to alert you to his presence.
And the portal was the original way to get to your garrison and get it started. They even send you bread crumbs to go to the portal and speak with Khadgar. So why not let us tell him “I’ve heard this story before.”?
Blizzard is the master of vague and unclear.
Two different portals. I’m talking about the MoP/WoD portal, from a cave under the water off of the Timeless Isle to a small island just offshore in Gorgorond. I updated my post above to reflect that.
I am referring to the Dark Portal, which was the original entrance to WoD and where they send you to meet up with Khadgar. That is why it would make sense to let us choose to skip the story when we speak with Khadgar.
Right. But we weren’t talking about the original portal.
The MoP/WoD portal was brought up, and how you took the portal from Org to Warspear, and you started asking about being able to start a garrison and commenting that you couldn’t find the NPC because it wasn’t right where the garrison would be.
Then I commented that I did it on this guy, and that you might have to Google it, and you objected to that because - again - the quest giver wasn’t where you thought it should logically be, at the site of the garrison, after you skip the intro quests. I said that the MoP/WoD portal breaks the quest logic, so you have to back up a bit.
I mean, that was the conversation we had, right? We were talking about how to get to Draenor and build your garrison without going through the original portal, no?
You were. I was talking about there not being a way to skip the intro quests after they send you to speak with Khadgar at the Dark Portal.
When there was no option at Khadgar to skip it, I did try to avoid the intro by flying to my garrison site via Warspear, but couldn’t find the npc and ended up doing it anyway.
Which still doesn’t change the fact that if they send you a breadcrumb to go speak with Khadgar, give us the option to tell him “I’ve heard this story before.”
Why overcomplicate things? But that is what Blizzard is best at.
But… there is! That’s what the whole MoP/WoD portal is for! That’s why everyone who has mentioned that portal, mentioned it.
Never mind. I swear, it’s like I’m playin’ cards with my brother’s kids or somethin’.
I feel the same way about trying to get my point through to some of you.
The whole MoP/WoD portal is in an underwater cave on Timeless Isle, and a chair you have to sit in on top of a hill in Gorgrond to get it to work. Why does everything have to be hidden?
And, more importantly, THEY SEND YOU TO SPEAK WITH KHADGAR, SO LET US TELL HIM “I’VE HEARD THIS STORY BEFORE.” Why is that such an unreasonable request?
It’s not. Did you miss where I said:
Your request is fine, there’s nothing wrong with it, but until it gets added (or not, Blizzard probably won’t change anything as old as WoD) you can do what you want to do by taking the MoP/WoD (or some other) portal.
Look, here’s your original post:
Which was titled “Let us skip quest chain for Draenor and Garrison”.
You can do that already.
