Learning to Tank is so much nicer in FF14

Nice point.

I have loved every FF cinematic, though.

So dungeons are harder there than in WoW?

Tanking is easy in FF14 though.

I don’t find them very hard.
Many people don’t find them very hard.

What I described is just a matter of learning that you do the role you have assigned yourself to do. You only survive tanking as a tank, and you can only properly heal as a healer, and the big dps should preferably come from the dps - but there can be a difference between a new player and an experienced player which leads to the experienced player who is healer do more dps.

FFXIV has slightly different combat system in that there are abilities on the GCD, and abilities off the GCD, and you have to learn to ‘weave’ those off the GCD abilities into your rotation to play effectively.

The people who think combat is slow, have never gotten anywhere near a level where they have any right to judge how the game plays. My friend was saying that 14 isnt super challenging because you only have to attack every 2 and a half seconds. I streamed my Ninja opener to him and challenged him to show me a wow class that has a 24 button opener in the span of 15 seconds.

Anyone who says FFXIV has slow combat, simply does not know how the game is played in any meaningful combat. Plain and simple.

Ahh I see. Sounds cool. Might make a Gladiator there. Right now going with the Lancer which is fun.

Agreed.
Most you have to remember, in the beginning atleast, is position, mitigation and do damage to gain threat.

Of course, on higher levels everyone will be expeced to do dps, in which case as a tank you will have to start focusing on positions, mitigation, threat, rotation (GCD abilities and off GCD abilities), while also avoiding the smaller attacks that come along the way, you have to keep an eye on potential debuffs on your fellow tank, on yourself, and watch out for tankbusters.

Sure, but in 90% of the content – tanking is basically nap inducing.

Oh lancer and dragoon is absolutely amazing, not to mention the armor you get. Dragoon armor is always on point, absolutely delicious.

Just be prepared for the ‘floor tank’ meme :stuck_out_tongue: it is a a fairly friendly FFXIV inside joke, because dragoons have had a tendency to die to boss mechanics… a lot, because of some of their animations just taking so long making them unable to escape boss attacks.

I think that have been changed at some point though.

I personally find that having to keep mitigation and my rotation going smoothly is enough to keep me attentive. Keeping threat is easy, but peak performance? Now that takes a little more.

I wonder if their report feature has anything to do with that?

I’ll be ready, hahaha.

The only reason learning to Tank is “nicer” in FF is the Trust system which lets you solo current Dungeons in any role by giving the player a party of NPC’s. It’s a great addition and something I wish WOW would add.

Other than that the high end community in both can be pretty toxic. Outwardly FF seems more welcoming because the RP side is much more present. People playing at dress up and RP’ing as minstrels in town, etc are generally nicer people but once you get to the hard, end game content players are just as likely to be d-bags as they are in WOW.

well, that’s not quite true. the chunk of the community that’s on reddit has been having a bit of a problem lately deciding whether it’s ok for dps/heals to pull for tanks that are going too slow, and there’s a lot more people than you think that are ok with it

I’ve been saying it for a long while now. I tank and heal so often in other MMOs it doesn’t cross my mind whether or not I’m pugging.

I tank or heal for a pug in WoW only to advance the story. Up until Cata, and even some of MoP, WoW players had a modicum of decency. I left before WoD, but I came back for Legion. As much as I loved that expansion, the community was not the same. I did a few pugs, then stopped around the time Big ‘D’ DPS started making the rounds. Just, ugh.

Were you talking or trying to communicate at all during this? Over the past few months, I have heard that some groups are getting people in them that aren’t communicating, but look like they’re almost purposefully trying to poop dungeon runs.

The unofficial consensus on my crystal has been that it’s WoW refugees who refuse to talk, but no one wants to really point fingers that way. If trial accounts can’t speak, that may be the case, I haven’t a clue on that personally.

If you can make a character on Cactuar, come on over. Any time you need help, literally yell for it and it’s Avengers Assemble time

That’s a lot because if they’re mean to you or kick you without reason they could get dragged to jail (in game jail) and supended.

I got really lucky, to start tanking back when it was WotLK and joining random dungeons.
Since then I try to help where I can, just as long as the person isn’t cocky “dude ive tanked since I was 12 I know what I am doing!” then proceeds to lose aggro, back when you had to have RF or Blood prescence on, they would not have it on…etc.

You guys are living in a fantasy bubble world if you think that taking humans that act in specific manners and putting them in a different game would make them act any differently.

I’m patient with new players and help them all the time. WoW is just such an old game that it’s almost impossible to discern new players from 30 year old tryhard who have been playing WoW on an off for 15+ years.

They “Want” to fly through dungeons, but they don’t get impatient and crappy about it if you don’t.

I am not a gogogogo tank by nature unless I am confident about the dungeon and I know all the pulls.

I have never once had anybody berate me for going slow. They just take it and accept it.

EDIT: But yet in WoW, I’ve seen healers and DPS go running on ahead and/or in a different direction than the tank because they’re trying to force the tank to go the way they want and sometimes the tank will pull something that can be skipped and the healer waits several seconds before they even think about healing the tank, it’s like seriously, cmon, just kill the stupid pack and let’s move on, but the dps will stand there and spend several seconds going “uhhhhh I don’t wanna fight that, what are you doing tank!?” even if they don’t say it.

You are right. I’ve considered learning to tank in WoW just so I can put together M+ runs faster. Then I actually watch what the tanks in my runs have to go through and I decide, “Nah.”

I’d rather HEAL M+ than tank it. Idk what they can do to fix this. Maybe remove the timer for M+ for starters. Tanks are tasked with knowing so much more information than a DPS or healer.

LMAO wow you are a try hard FFXIV fanperson huh? FFXIV is a horrible game in sooo many aspects. Too funny how hard you are trying to defend that game.
