Yeah, lemme just conjure those up real quick.
It’s good advice, but not an argument.

One can sadly not make friends in WoW anymore
Can’t get into raid tanking. Tank switching is too stressful, how i’m supposed to know when i should taunt
That was the worst thing about the game I’ve encountered so I hope they can make it more user friendly and bring it inhouse instead of using outside platforms like Steam in the future.
But otherwise, it’s a good game. Not knocking it, just warning others so they don’t do the same thing I did today.
xD It’s my main. I know the names but I still just call them basic things if I can.
CBF saying “Katon” and I just call it “Fireball”. Or “Fuma Shuriken” is just Shuriken.
Fuma Shuriken - Actual trash, only used in TCJ or sub 35 like Haukke. (Any single mudra)
Raiton - Lightning, single target (1-2)
Katon - Fireball, aoe (2-1) Becomes Goka after 76 with Kassatsu up, just does more damage.
Doton - Quicksand (1-3-2)
Huton - DPS buff (3-2-1)
Suiton - Lets me use Trick Attack/Meisui, Single target damage (1-2-3)
Hyoton - Trash, root. Becomes your hardest hitting ability post 76 with Kassatsu up. (2-3)
That is when hud layout comes into play and focus target.
You will have to watch out for either boss ability or a debuff on your fellow tank.
You either sniff out when to taunt by watching the debuff on the other tank or seeing how his health drops, or you are being told beforehand.
You can try, but I’ve found it’s almost like dungeon-dating.
I find this stuff never works for me, but my brother did it and was moderately successful. He generally put at least 50% more effort in overall, though…it’s just too much for me.
Pretty sure he’s trolling/joking. Tank swapping is ‘notoriously’ the easiest and most common raid tank mechanic to date.
Yeah I do not put much energy into socialising myself.
But really, it has been a huge contrast in FFXIV. My friend list quickly grew as a result of how chatty people in general can be, not just in the busy cities in game, but also in dungeons (provided you do not end up with a full console-crew).
The chattyness gets me chatty.
Well one never knows.
WHEN to tank switch is completely different from HOW to tank switch
That’s pretty cool to hear. I only tried the free trial a couple years ago with my brother, and got so annoyed that we couldn’t even invite eachother for questing that we both just stopped. We did ask a full player to invite us both and then leave so we could be grouped, and that worked, but doing that EVERY time? No thanks.
They could easily solve this by only showing group invites from new players if you also invite them, so no spam invites from new players would happen, but people who are trying it together could.
But I’ve wasted 15-16 years suggesting things for WoW, and don’t think FFXIV would be much different.
Buut I digress…your comments regarding socializing does sound interesting.
I think there should be a series of optional training quests/scenarios for tanks/healers/ranged dps/melee dps to teach them the basics of their role. Totally optional. A player could do them repeatedly until they were comfortable with them and managed to do them without mistake.
Yeah that’s a lazy solution everyone throws out…. But not everyone has friends in game man. They all quit
there’s still a massive tank shortage in ff14
the tank problem extends a lot further than player hospitality
It took me 7 days /playtime to finish ARR, mind you a lot of that was away from keyboard or goofing around in game… but it still takes a long long long time to level through the game.
The people that will put in the time, are patient beyond belief, so it is little wonder why you will meet more pleasant people in ffxiv, they are not in a rush as they are just enjoying the journey.
FFXIV weeds out the impatient people who seem to be stuck in some weird rush to get nowhere, and it does so through story line… absolutely fantastic if you ask me.
I’m glad you are having fun there and enjoying the company.
The PUG environment over there is so much better, but I attribute that solely to moderation. There is accountability for your behavior in FFXIV, and fewer tools that allow abuse. That creates an environment that feels approachable 99% of the time.
You will get the occasional jerk or bad group, it happens, but it’s rare and it’s likely they won’t last long before their actions lead them to a suspension.
In WoW, there is no accountability. There is no actual moderation. The systems that are in place are often abused without any recourse, because the entire process is automated. There’s no punishment for being toxic, so that creates an environment that promotes it. It’s just not an approachable game, even for seasoned players.
This is creating a big problem with the game, I think, because the only content that WoW excels at is its group content. Yet the lack of accountability and the promoted behavior of its players makes that unapproachable content for a lot of people.
Top that off with the token and the allowance of boosting services, and you can kinda understand why so many people are falling out of love with this game lately.
Personally, I’ve been mostly playing FFXIV myself. Only playing this occasionally to do the casual stuff. But WoW isn’t my primary game anymore and IDK if it ever will be again.
And the moderation is very pro active in game much like the forums here
What a waste of a post!
Does it still have people who run and grab the items for quests and drag all the mobs into tanks cause they’re lazy and in a go go go go attitude ? So I have to sit there and waste time grinding mobs down because they’ll follow me endlessly
You have that in the game. It’s called Proving Grounds in WoW. It used to be mandatory in order to queue for Heroics in WoD but people screamed that getting Silver was so unfair. That should tell you have trash the average player in this game is.
That’s a social matter. People in general just do not like playing tanks because there’s responsibility associated with the role, same with healing. DPS you just worry about yourself and kill appropriate targets.
I don’t think I’ve played a single MMO where they had the tank and healer situation entirely under control. I guess I could say Guild Wars 2, but the game didn’t have dedicated tanks or healers and any class could do these roles if they loaded out correctly.
