Learning to Tank is so much nicer in FF14

Key takeaways

-You know there is a route but you refuse to look one up and do it.
-Threat will always get dropped (unless your playing a veng DH / blood DK in my experience), I rip aggro with burst from most tanks but I dont complain and when Im tanking and those same classes with high burst rip aggro I taunt them back or intervene the target. But I’m quick … sometimes … STILL THEY DONT KICK / RAGE WHEN THEY DIE.
-If your doing a Key, the “gogogogo” mentality has to be a thing, It’s a timed dungeon. Even regular dungeons if your not with a group of your RP friends why are you wasting the time of random players? It doesn’t take more than 5 secs (being lenient here it actually takes 1 sec) to look at your healer’s mana pool and judge whether to pull the next mob pack or say “mana up”.
-I dont play FF14 and never will after I tried it, it’s way too slow paced for me. I wont dismiss your experiences but I’ll have my doubts that it’s a picture perfect world with a picture perfect community.

As said above, a lot of us love/liked/adored both games, and we want both to be successful.

So, we point out the problems WoW has, that even many die-hard WoW fans agree with us, but if we dare mention XIV, we suddenly get hate thrown at us.

Probably because die-hard WoW fans can’t stand that there’s another game out there that is doing what WoW once did, and better while WoW flounders and they’re so unhappy about the state of WoW.

It’s just copium to attack WoW players who also like XIV. They hate XIV because it’s everything they wish WoW was in terms of success and playerbase happiness.

XIV is glowing right now, and the jaded die-hard WoW fans wish WoW were glowing that awesomely, but it’s not. And so they attack XIV players because they keep getting reminded of WoW’s golden age that passed.

That is a valid point but a part of that is people don’t want to see the direction of the game radically changed either. There is without a doubt things WoW needs to do better and ideas/concepts they need to look into from other games. The game really needs to go back to what it was during BC/Wraith era. It has drifted too far from the roots that made it strong.

Here’s what you said:

This is entirely passive-aggressive. It has an attitudish tone.

There is also the fact that big brother is watching in FF14. Say something wrong, you’re banned. If that wasn’t the case, then people would absolutely do it more.

You might say that is a good thing, and yes I agree that no one should ever berate new players just learning (something I would never do, as I definitely understand the challenges of tanking).

But at the same time, I don’t like that it’s an environment in which an authoritative entity is always watching. I would rather a game give the players the necessary means to solve their own problem. And there are many ways to solve “players are toxic” problem and I have not seen any disparaging remarks toward tanks in literally years.

My solution? I play with friends/guildies … I used the ignore/block feature. I practice my character and rotation and talent builds BEFORE grouping with strangers. When I do pug, I only apply to content that I’m equipped to handle and do my own research on the encounters. Or in other words, I respect the time of others. It’s not something I have to do, but IMO, it’s the polite thing to do. If I want to learn, I will ask friends/guildies or create my own group with “chill learning group” in the title. I mean, it’s just not that hard to have a good experience.

Except we’re not asking for the game to radically change direction… well, in some places, yes.

See, some of us are asking for relaxing the Gambling/RNG aspect of WoW to be seriously toned back, to give more non-RNG rewards, or at least rewards with less RNG, less systems and borrowed power.

Basically, we’re asking for WoW to be WoW again, like it was in Wrath, or heck even Cata, or better yet, MoP.

We want old WoW back, we want WoW to return to its golden era, back when there was plenty of open world content to do, back when you used badges to buy gear to fill in voids in your gear because of a lack of luck, we want optional ML systems back for guilds, etc etc etc.

None of this is saying “WE WANT WOW TO BECOME FFXIV!” like the people who are throwing hate are claiming we want.

We point out what XIV does, because XIV was modelled after WoW in its prime, and XIV is more like WoW than WoW is today when it comes to general content design and endgame reward structures.

I would rather have that, than the constant toxicity in WoW’s playerbase.

I have logged on some days and I’ve seen chat talking about stuff I would never let a 13 year old child near. And it goes on, unpunished, and nobody bats an eye at it, but yet WoW is supposedly a game that 13+ year olds are supposed to be able to play.

If I were a parent, I would never let my 13 year old child play this because of the chat alone. And it’s not just Goldshire on Moon Guard, either. I logged into Korthia yesterday and they were talking about BDSM stuff in the general chat there, the same general chat that you need for players to tell you about mob spawns.

The day before? Politics and LGBT discussion.

The day before that? The Blizz Lawsuits.

If I had to make a guess, a lot of the 800 people they let go last year, a lot of them were support staff like moderators.

I kinda want to see you stream it now.

As someone who primarily play GNB when tanking, that would be very interesting.

It’s still simple. I never had a problem with GNB. It’s more streamlined than any tank in WoW. That’s not saying WoW tanking is hard, but tanking in FFXIV is very simple, no matter the job.

The shout chat in Ul’dah on Balmung is near Moonguard-Goldshire levels, and none have gotten banned for a little bit of erotic banter.

It is when it borders on harrasement, berating, bullying, then the hammer falls. Be nice or get out.

Are you struggling with GNB? If so, I just don’t get it. They have such a simple resource which you get 1 full charge with your simple 123 combo. You only use it on a couple things. The gauge caps at 2.

Please refrain from using the term “potato” unless in reference to a Lalafell.

Not struggling at all.
But yours is a very typical claim, and I am genuinely curious.
Many people claim: “Oh, it is so easy to play this job, I just do this combo” and then you see them play, and you see that they are terrible at weaving their abilities, they have the right idea, but they are missing out on so much by now weaving properly.

I used party chat on my free trial.

You sir have a very uneducated take on this, but thanks anyways. It’s a lot faster and more to do than WoW combat, and I’ve played WoW since first closed beta. I’ve played 14 since Stormblood release. There is no comparison to which is slower, and 14 is not a slow system at all if you play it how your suppose to and not like a 10 year old who doesn’t know what a rotation is.

Also, played League back when it was relevant, Season 2 through 4. Was Gold 1, which was actually decent back then. Wasn’t that hard so missing your point there.

I can see that being the case in WoW very easily but FFXIV, tanking is extremely easy. I’m not sure if they made it that way to prevent people from being put off by it and thus making the tank shortage worse or what.

But GNB is pretty straight forward. Ever since they homogenized the defensive cooldowns and gave all classes an easy AoE rotation, it’s very simple. You may press more buttons with GNB but generally, that’s during the Continuation window every 30 seconds.

Yes, we do Gnashing Fang - Continuation - Savage Claw - Continuation - Wicked Talon - Continuation, right?

Correct. I’ve seen some say that’s “hard” but maybe I don’t see it that way because I play FFXIV on PS5 and the way I have those buttons set up on my controller hotbar makes it very simple to do. I think if I tried it with a keyboard, I may screw it up.

What’s PvP got to do with it? It was never a PvP focused game, neither was WoW really. Infact it’s pvp is contrived to. Same BG’s that are one sided, Arenas where you face the same comps every day…so yeah ok.

That is because you can get banned for giving ANY sort of Critique in FFXIV.
