Basically this. Your apm as gunbreaker is about 40 to 50 compared to warriors 30ish.
It’s literally just dps because you don’t have to use defensives at all in normal/leveling content.
And that’s yet another terrible example of poor game design.
XIV would stick stuff like that on the last boss, to ensure people aren’t bailing in mid-dungeon. WoW used to be smarter about this, World Quests and other similar things required the killing of the final boss of the dungeon.
But Blizz slipped on a banana peel and had mid-bosses dropping things like legendary memories which is just stupid. Any player should be able to see that’s stupid. How does a GAME DEVELOPER not see it?
That has nothing to do with it.
The problems the OP are stating go beyond knowing how to play the class, it’s more about the gogogogogo attitude and being required to know all the dungeons, all the terrain-based skips, and all of that junk or people get downright angry with you.
WoW tanks are easy. I swap to Blood and Prot Paladin on a regular basis for world mobs and stuff. But I refuse to tank WoW dungeons.
EDIT: Though on the “learning how to play the class”, I will say that XIV giving you options to play lower level content anytime you want, even if you are max level goes a long way to learning anything you missed on your leveling up process, unlike WoW.
For example, I’ve never tried Prot Warrior since MoP. My Fury Warrior is 60 wearing Korthia Gear. Sure I could swap to Prot, and maybe I will someday, but I have 0 clue as to how to play the class and there are no ways for me to learn. If I show up to a dungeon, I will get eviscerated in chat, esp if I die because I wasn’t using all the defensives right or something.
Well, that’s not really it. Obviously a two button class isn’t desirable, but FFXIV has some massive ability bloat and even the changes they made to address that didn’t do a lot. Even a mechanically simplistic class, like red mage, has more abilities to keep track of then a lot of other classes in similar mmos.
Macros exist, in theory, to simplify some tasks, but I think FF solution to the two button problem kind of defeats the use of any macro in a combat setting. The built in queue lag makes them effectively useless in most situations you’d want to use them.
If anything the problem is that new players get put into BFA dungeons where the dungeons are nonlinear. You don’t need to know where to go in deadmines it’s a straight line.
Also, the fact that dps can tank more of these dungeons is also a problem. If dps got slapped down quick by mobs in dungeons you wouldn’t have them pulling for tanks.
Better than WoW classes where you only push 3-4 buttons on regular basis.
I’ve never found that I need macros, like, at all. Not sure what people are wanting to macro, lol.
Well, ok. I do have 1 macro: one that puts a “1” above what I want killed next.
do everyone else a favor, click the little pawprint on the right of your screen and just “mute” the thread. now you can’t see it. you’re welcome
Why, because I corrected someone misconception about what this forums is about? How about you just add me to ignore, you’re welcome.
because instead of taking the initiative and just reporting/hiding threads you don’t like, you have to waste your time telling people why you don’t think the thread should be here, while pointing enthusiastically at the shiny hall monitor badge on your chest
If FF14 I play a tank, and I have gotten a lot of help from my light party, and even my full parties when there is some weird mechanic I have to know, especially when it’s my first time there. This is as a subscribed customer who can chat just fine. I haven’t looked up a single fight and watch every cutscene. I bring potions and keep my gear up to date, but I admittedly am flying by the seat of my pants most of the time.
Meanwhile in WoW, last night I was invited to tank Tazavesh in a pug, which I haven’t done yet, and I passed because I haven’t watched a video guide yet and didn’t want to be a problem for them. I could have probably done it just fine, but didn’t want to even try without doing research.
Completely different mindset for the two that I admit even effects my behavior as a player.
I play a rogue - I definitely have more than 2 to 3 buttons to hit. We’re going to have to disagree about more buttons = superior gameplay sentiment too. Sometimes more buttons is just more buttons. But I love dragoon and ninja and there is a lot going on with those classes.
A lot of people don’t use macros. So, that’s fine if it’s your preference. I don’t use macros when I play FF - because they are actively detrimental to use in most situations. Which makes them kind of useless - which is my point. You’re very defensive about FF for some odd reason.
And here we go, another person who failed to actually read what I typed. I never said this thread shouldn’t be here, matter of fact I think it is an interesting discussion. I was pointing out that when someone said “A general discussion is an open forum to discuss any and all topics.” that they were actually incorrect.
If that bothers you, well take a hike.
Ff14 doesn’t have ability bloat!
Stay away from my Ninja holinka! I don’t trust pruning after what they did to my rogue!!!
Because you’re being passive-aggressive about it, and complaining about a forum thread that is not breaking the rules (because we are discussing WoW compared to XIV, which is discussing WoW which is perfectly fine).
Rather than just muting the thread or just not clicking on it, you come in here to passive-aggressively tell people that we shouldn’t be talking about the topic.
Then go play ff14 if that’s what you want. And that’s an open invitation to every person crushing on it. Take all the forum posters who post about the game with you.
I mean, its only been out there 11 years. So go play it
Love mudras
i don’t really feel like it, i’m not wearing hiking boots today
Expect that is not what I did. I basically told someone that the discussion here are supposed to be about WoW (and this one is). That was IT. If that is passive-aggressive you live a very sheltered life.
