People hitting level 30 in 3-5 days, and farming Mythril by the 4th ( you can look at the beta Livestreams ), there is certainly no level cap on professions and what level you need to pick them. With Layer jumping, you remove the element of danger by picking the one safe node and jump it again and again for infinite value at no expense. But if this last for 2-4 weeks or even months, the damage will be even more profound with level 60’s doing it.
They will act just like they did for the stress test. We already know the reactions of people that can’t get in, we’ve been reading it for weeks with the crying about beta and the stress test.
I recall reading that the crying was all a reaction to streamers getting in over them. The same drum being beat that they’re not getting in the beta because streamers get privilege lol.
It’s all about the $$$. But then again, so was Vanilla when WoW launched.
Blizzard wouldn’t be launching Classic if they didn’t think it’d make them money, so you have this tug and pull going on where they need to save money (layering) while simultaneously not alienating the playerbase so they can make money on the game.
If it were up to me, I’d say Blizzard just does it the old school way and if servers need merged by phase 2, well so be it, but at least it would work like the game used to. However, they are not. Will I boycott the game because of this? No.
Myself as somebody is roleplaying since 10 + years ago the “channel” system haven’t ruined a single thing for me… if you can’t understand the congestion will ruin x10 times more the experiencie than any layering system then just go back to a private server to be honest.
Good lucking finishing your quests in 30 mins average cuz the congestion while i wil be finishing my quests in 10 mins…
Layer hopping they need to fix that if it is happening like others are saying.
Lock people to 1 layer until they merge everyone, someone shouldn’t log out a few min or on another toon and back on and be on a different one.
I don’t think they’re being dramatic. You don’t seem to back your claim up with anything really to dispute what he’s saying. The economy will get completely derailed if high level mats are just ridiculously easy to farm.
Let’s give an example, Let’s say on the map, there are 100 copper node spawns, and spawn time is 5 minutes.
Let’s say a server should handle 3k players at any one time. So, say there are 3k players. that would mean 1 layer.
So one player can camp at 1 node, and every time it spawns, mine it. Say every node is camped. So after 1 hour, 1200 copper nodes are mined.
1200 copper nodes for 3000 players. Or 0.4 nodes per player.
Now let’s say there are 5 layers, with 3k players each layer (15,000 players total). 5 layers, that means there are exactly 500 copper nodes (100 per layer). Each spawn is camped by 1 player, that layer swaps each time they mine. After 1 hour, 1200*5 nodes are mined.
So after 1 hour
6,000 copper nodes for 15000 players. Or 0.4 nodes per player.
It doesn’t matter if a player layer swaps, it will not hurt the economy at all.
no ,layering may come from the same tech, but it is something new that they are doing with CLassic, watch one of the dev interviews , they spell that out pretty well.
Layering is not ideal. Everyone would prefer it if there was no layering or any similar systems.
But everyone wants to play the game too. Not being able to log on isn’t fun. Nor is server lag.
Layering is meant to be a compromise that Blizz has promised will be eliminated as soon as possible. It’s just their insurance policy to keep servers relatively stable during the early days of Live.
But I agree that the tech should prevent intentional ‘layer hopping’.
No body is happy about layering, but it is a necessity unless you want crazy unstable servers on launch or servers to die or be merged after a few months
