well was hoping Blizzard was actually going to fix this but its not looking too good. Finally did the workaround and the game plays nice and smooth again. no lag no stutter…game runs like butter. 
The announcement at BlizzCon is gonna be that they fixed this bug, instead of the next expansion.

Using the unofficial workaround, which as everyone else is reporting is also working for my end too.
Will monitor this thread over the coming months to see if/when Blizzard has an actual response or if they’ve absolutely given up on any quality control.

Nope, it’s still broken.
Keep in mind that millions of people play and only 18k have even seen this topic. Very small amount of people savvy enough to understand the issue and seek out a workaround. I felt a great disturbance in the force, as if millions of harddrives suddenly cried out in fear and were suddenly silenced.

I noticed some people saying “new patch” here but my version is still 8.2.5.32028. Do hotfixes change the number? Should mine be different?
Hope the workaround didn’t break my ability to update.

Why doesn’t Blizz just disable the logs? That is basically what we are doing by making them read-only.

Blizzard has an unhealthy obsession with control and exerting authority. “This is our game, and none of you get a say” is the mentality at the core of most of their decisions, whether it makes sense or not. Disabling logs would feel like relinquishing some of that control, so they won’t.

Still no fix, im enjoying mythic raiding with that periodic lag spike, totally helps in the fight. <.<
They’ve disabled stuff in the past when it wasn’t working such as action camera and party voice.
Never though the topic would get so FAR 
is Blizzard sleeping on the job? Glad i quit, this is horrible customer service. I though on checking the forum from time to time to see if thing where getting better, guess not now. This is really sad, i hope its not the beginning of something worse down the line that will make people leave WoW for good.

Oh Blizzard. You’ve made changes… in the wrong direction. Now the launcher undoes the workaround the moment you do it. Used to be able to start the launcher, do the workaround, then load the game and play. It would only undo the fix when you start the launcher. Now as soon as you do the workaround on one file, if the launcher is already running, it downloads the broken version of the file.
Not a good look.

Play the game without the launcher, all you need is start from the folder instead of the launcher. You are gonna need your authenticator again though if you have one.

Idk man, I’ve just tested it this exact minute and its still working that way. Restart your PC and try again. If somehow its not working for you after that just do what Thunderstrike said and launch it from the folder.
at this point its just a joke to see how long it’ll take them to fix it.
Big shout out to antisocial for providing that temp fix for the community, you made wow playeys lives so much easier for almost 2 weeks, when the devs failed at their jobs.
