Lag/Jittering with every quest hand-in/Level up

Blockquote dose work it just makes logging in annoying as you have to do it the old way,

Have to have your authentication handy too.

It does work, you just need your authenticator…

Well they finally posted that we will have about a hour long Maintenance tuesday so maybe they will fix it

I hope it fixs Tuesday. My game isent unplayable but it’s very annoying and just makes me not want to play. If it keeps up I’m not sure I would continue to pay past my free 30days I got for buying BFA. My have to just go back to FFXIV. Don’t see Square having problems like this 🤷

Thank god for the player created work around fix since blizzard cant seem to fix it after 5 days of knowing about a game breaking bug

They’ll sooner patch it so the work around doesn’t work anymore but the problem remains. I doubt they’ll fix this issue Tuesday with an hour maintenance. I doubt they’ll respond further at this point.

This far in? It’s almost definitely a fix. If so, goodbye to this thread, it was fun chatting with you all!

The work-around does seem to fix this issue. It also has smoothed out my fps in major hubs like boralus and new dal.

i just tried it myself…won’t know for sure how well it’ll work for me, until i complete and turn quest in…but here’s to hoping it does the job.

edit: did a random quest, completed it, turned it in…smoothly got exp for it. God bless you, for revealing a workaround for this issue.

So I see the blues responding to other posts… can you guys let us know if this issue is still being worked on?

Just tried the work around and after turning in a quick quest then zoning into a new area it seems to be fixed also looks like loading in is a little faster.

Now did a world quest where before it would stutter and lag a bit now nothing so thank you for finding this work around.

To everyone who has done this workaround…

If you keep seeing these small updates that run on battlenet, what this is doing is reverting the changes you’ve made to those 2 files.

I just tested it myself - I opened battlenet, set both files to “Read Only”, then just left it without logging into the game. About 10 minutes later, there was a small update. I checked the two files, and sure enough my changes had been reverted.

So if we ignore the launcher and log in the old way then what we changed should stay right?

Yes I believe so. I ran the game from the executable in the folder for the past couple of days, and the changes stuck. But I’d still check every time you want to play.

Okay, let’s just summarize since this thread is just about dead and new people keep appearing:

  • The reason the game is lagging is because it’s trying to write oversized log files in certain times. This can be fixed by making the hotfix and tooltip files in your log folder read only before playing.
  • These will be reset if you use the Battlenet launcher. Blizz is advising to revert these changes anyways before you update. You can avoid the reverting by launching from the folder itself like back in the old days.
  • There’s a repair happening on Tuesday, most likely.

Feel free to tell me if I’m missing anything.

Thank you both for answering my question. :sunglasses:

They initially advised against changing the permissions, which was what the reddit post said. However someone posted here ( I’m sorry I forgot who it was lol!) suggested just setting them to read only. I don’t know if it’s “safer” that way or not, but messing with permissions always scares me lol!

Wanted to add opening chests doesn’t lag either with the work around when before I would lag.

It’s making me wonder if we’ve just cracked a code for the game altogether. A couple things were lagging for me before 8.2.5 and the workaround fixes THOSE too. Maybe some good came out of this, assuming the game runs nicer after it’s all fixed.
