Setting the file to read only worked great. Why does this file and its intense access exist?
I think this bug may have killed my GPU somehow, I was mid dungeon and lots of enemies spawned in there was a ton of stuttering and hard reading on the HDD and then screen just went black, when all was said and done the GPU had apparently completely died, I had thought it was the harddrive at first because the stutters kept making my HDD scream prior but it was really just the GPU which had died, I’ve already replaced it and maybe it was already on its way out but I had played Overwatch on that GPU earlier in the day and the temps and performance were completely normal so it really makes me wonder and left completely paranoid to play this game now.

Sorry to hear that, my condolences.
Its a shame a powerful company like Blizzard let those things past their PTR and even so here we are 3 days after the patch still afraid to play the game because they can’t fix it.
And its Friday so probably there’s no hope to get this fixed till Tuesday.

Welp its Friday night, no fix has been made. I predict a small patch on Tuesday to fix this (and other issues). Blizzard has a long history of not fixing bugs on weekends, so good luck to everybody, hopefully it doesnt break your hard drives.

Blizzard: when your game is literally frying GPU’s, if you aren’t going to fix it immediately, at least warn players or close down the game temporarily so there aren’t any more casualties.
Some of us play this game on $1000+ PC’s, this isn’t something to take lightly. Many players will disregard the lag and never see this post.

Yeah, even with the work-around my guildies decided to not raid this week because of that bug (some ppl dont want to use it). Really annoying but I guess its the smart decision if we don’t want to have our PCs damaged.

Having this issue as well. Been happening since the maintenance a few days ago and i’m currently in the process of messing with my add-ons, repairing my files, and updating my drivers.

Update: None of these solutions helped. I tried playing without the launcher but it didn’t help either. :\
There’s no point in messing with them, just avoid the game until it’s fixed.
Hey blues… can you confirm whether this issue is deadly to one’s computer? I want an honest answer. I’ve been on classic since this whole issue because I don’t have the stutter there, but I’d like to be on retail… reading all this has me very scared now. Please say something to make us feel better…
Rapid hard drive access isn’t going to fry your GPU.
Today it’s much worse. I just tried running a M+ and my game kept freezing…other people in my party were also experiencing this. This game is becoming unplayable now.
It’s pretty unbelievable that all we get from Blue posts is “We’ll update when it’s resolved”. So what does that mean? We may not hear about any kind of progress for days, or weeks…until you decide to chime in again? Yes, I realize you will only know, when the devs or whomever knows, but sheesh.
I personally did not find that it was worse today. For me it’s been the same since Tuesday. But now I am very anxious and worried to play with how folks are saying this bug can fry people’s gpu’s and what not… I have been sticking to classic because there are no issues there.
I at least would like a confirmation from Blizzard if it’s safe to play. I understand it takes time to fix bugs but a bit more communication would be nice 
Tell me about it. I missed the entirety of Timewalking Draenor over this. 
Look buddy, use the work around and it will be all ok. I used it and i could play like normal. Just don’t use the app that is all you need.
I’ll give it a shot tomorrow when I log on after work. Heck maybe we’ll be lucky and Blizz will have it fixed… who knows.

I can only hope they’re not going to just wait until Tuesday to fix this. It’s seriously hampering any enjoyment I’ve had for questing. And I was super psyched to level this lupine lad.
There was a very small update just some minutes ago. I can’t play right now but I’m wondering if it was the fix or not. Can anyone confirm, pretty please?
