It’s even funnier that the upgrades are gated behind renown, so those of us who have already hit tier 6 can’t even buy the books to unlock them. Just more of the same. (I’m curious if the book unlocks extend account-wide since the tier 5 book’s benefit for the phasing sword shrines did.)
the renown gating seems redundant, and unnecessary
And you don’t get the upgrades for free, you have to pay for each one. Except I have to wait 9 more weeks, you didn’t.
If you want to assign blame for why you aren’t Tier 6, then look in a mirror. It’s nobody’s responsibility but your own.
Please tell me what I’m doing wrong, seriously. I’m about to hit level 5. I do the Korthia dailies every single day, collect as many treasures as I can, and kill multiple rares. Every day!
Then I go do my other fun activities.
Serious question. I’m not trying to sound like a jerk.
What am I doing wrong?
Honestly its a pretty bad system for gearing alts bc who in their right mind wants to spam Korthia dailies/hunt for caches every time they play on ALL their toons. You’re better off straight up ignoring Korthia and just getting into mythic + and raid but o wait…you need your alt to be at least 220 for that.
Frustrating.
The Korthia dailies don’t even give Archivist rep.
I 100% agree on that point. What I dont agree with is the timegate that means it doesn’t matter how fast or slow I’m gaining rep, I have to wait 9 more weeks no matter what.
You don’t have to wait 9 weeks, a bunch of us already have it.
Dude shooosh, we’re talking alts here not mains. If your farming Korthia rep on your main when do you have time to also farm rep on an alt!?
And yet it not only works just fine in FFXIV, and it’s also seen as a attractive feature of the game by many who play it.
In FFXIV, the power gap between the highest difficulty raiders and the every day schlubs who just get their weekly currency is very small. Heck, the best crafted gear is nearly as good as well. Those that pursue the high end content get only a very slight power advantage, but their real bragging rights come in the form of cosmetics, the most prestigious of which never get any easier to acquire due to the content that provides them always scaling players to its level.
As far as player power goes, FFXIV players have a variety of paths to reach similar destinations. One of those paths requires either an investment of time/effort/money in crafting and gathering to make great gear, or enough money to buy it from someone who has. Another path is to accrue a weekly capped currency from a variety of activities (some challenging, but most trivial) and gear up over time. Then there’s the classic method of raiding and getting drops. There’s even an expansion long questline that gives you a weapon (and sometimes armor too) that improves with content patches as they add to the questline. That weapon can end up being best in slot by the end of the expansion in many cases.
In all these different cases, the players end up fairly close to each other in player power. Some are slightly ahead but the gap is not so significant that it makes or breaks encounters, or encourages players to be as picky about who they bring into their groups for content.
I see that as the opposite of “awful game design”.
Not all of us have our last life’s blood to devote to a game… I just hit tier 5 today and I’m a bit proud of my rather inconsequential and non elite loser achievement.
Nope. You need renown 61 to go from 220 to 226, and renown 75 to go from 226 to 233. Dont worry, everyone will be stuck on 226 for a quite a while.
As has been repeatedly stated, Korthia rep is capped, daily. You can’t no-life it.
Some of us also just dislike the content.
I’m still tier 3 because I don’t spend any more time in Korthia than I absolutely have to. And that amounts to doing the dailies and maybe snag a convenient treasure or rare that happens to be nearby as I do so. Then I book it out of there because I don’t actually want to be there in first place. And once I exalt the Death’s Advance rep, I will spend even less time there.
I don’t do the maw assaults. I didn’t enjoy “fill the bar” content like the N’zoth assaults in BfA, so I’m certainly not going to do them ad nauseam in Shadowlands.
It’s funny how the evolution of content is to make it worse (subjective I know) with each xpac. Legion invasions were great. They were relatively easy to jump into and out of, essentially just being a bunch of world quests, many of which were kill a big dude and bounce to the next. Then it got a bit more tedious, and a bit less rewarding in BfA with the faction assaults, worse (imo) with the N’zoth assaults, and even more of a slog (again imo) in Shadowlands.
I want to get my “chores” done quickly and efficiently. If I can’t do that then I don’t do the “chores” at all and play a different game. It’s really that simple.
As has been repeatedly stated, Korthia rep is capped, daily. You can’t no-life it.
Literally, you can. People don’t get to log on every day. Are you that clueless?
It shouldn’t even go to 226 at all that’s better than current LFR.
LFR simply needs to be upgraded to make it worth the time.
Totally unnecessary.
Absolutely necessary. Casual solo gearing is always going to take five times longer than group end game content. On purpose. In more than just WoW.
What even is this nonsense?
so people who do no-effort world content should be as well geared as people doing the upper end of raid, m+ and pvp content?
There’s nothing wrong with both hitting the same ilevel as Normal or Heroic— but casual solo play absolutely must take a hell of a lot longer, because then that’s where people get uppity and it’s only fair that solo players have their own form of “gate” and “challenge” to get it.
we can’t spend literally 10 hours a day for the past 55 days farming Korthia
You don’t have to. This tier is going to be here for probably another 6 months to a year. What happens when you finally hit ilevel cap? You going to whine about no content and nothing to do?
But they are all available.
And none of them guarantee you any gear. Poor attempt. Your monkeys are just creepy and make you look ridiculous.
I’m not even close to rank 5 yet.
I need rank 6 just for this rep to actually have any meaning to an average player like me. It’s probably never going to happen. This is just more hard evidence of Blizzard shifting towards “money first, fun if we can get it in there somehow but always money first.”
Doesn’t matter anymore. The campaign quests are intentionally 9 weeks of content. That’s at least 2 payments of 2 months game time or 3 wow tokens. It’s about pumping profit for the quarterly. It’s got nothing to do with the Chilton era of Legion where fun mattered. It’s about MONEY.
You hate wow? Just quit. We have plenty of whales to make sure you are never noticed. WoW is pumping up the money at the expense of the quality. We don’t need a good QA department we need a barebones make the game functional at best QA department.
This game is driving off a cliff and I am sad to see it go but at least I have Yoshida-san to give me a real game that actually respects me.
